actually, it is quite simple. knowing a bit of programming helps, but the basics of EFI is very simple. open an injector for a certain length on time on every cycle in a cylinder by estimating the volume of air with that cylinder to maintain an ideal stoichiometry. yes, i HAVE done it myself... using absolutely NO "existing" software or procedures. FFS, i can do it with a 555 timer chip. ive done it with a pic12f683 as no existing system was suitable for my requirements. the HARD part is dealing with the actual programming, interrupts, 8-bit mathematics in binary. the "flow" of the program. how to write a fuzzy logic calculation in assembly language. i had to teach myself programming in an "obsolete" language and think in a new way. the limitations of an injector and its delivery rate at the two extremes of operation, idling and full RPM, around 12,000 rpm for my project... again, the actual basic concept of EFI is very simple. extremely simple.

@@KOAP33 This is basically a fuel injection conversion, and has been invented for long, but it really doesn't make sense anywhere but in Africa... Almost every car since 1990 is already fuel injected, and those before that date are considered classics, so people tend to value their originality over the fuel efficiency. Africa is different because they have been importing old vehicles from Europe for decades, and they are running daily a lot of cars which would be considered classics in Europe (specially Mercedes), and so a fuel injection conversion makes sense for them. I hate Electronics for the simple reason that it's a cheatcode to cram overly complex systems into tiny spaces that don't need them, such as making car go burr, yes you can squeeze all the marginal benefits out of direct injection with electronic controls but it's the pinky you give up that will cost you your whole arm, as we've seen with cars in the last 30 years with canbus systems that will brick your whole car over a bad tail light.

I am amazed you made a ecu and programmed yourself great job! I am still scared of electric, wiring, and your finishing skills are nice. Nice wiring, nice finish covering the wires. Writing a ecu from scratch is amazing and difficult. Start building ecu to tune high horsepower sports cars and you have a real money maker on your hand. Its more liablity but i feel you can do it. Become one of the tuning companies in kenya and keep pushing the car scene until its like japan or america.

Those guys are many because most are dirt poor with little relevant formal education. The sacrifices and great lengths they go to even make those contraptions are incomprehensible. The supply of people with a combination of: i) enough theoretical & practical education ii) resources to pursue hobby projects and iii) entrepreneurial drive to do stuff out of the formal school/work system is very low. But there are very many people with the inherent capability that would flourish in the right conditions. When incomes improve (as well as educational infrastructure etc), there will no doubt be many people working on legit products. Creativity is high

This guy is really quite smart. I commend him for being able to build his own ECU that works on a wide array of cars. But I have to say that just smacking a ECU onto an old car won't make it perform as good as modern vehicles do, there is no variable valve timing, direct injection, forced induction, etc... being added. He's just bettering the engine control by adding a computer and fuel injection. Some of the last carburetor cars had carbs on them that worked so well that you would barely get a percentage of better fuel consumption / power / drivability by converting to an EFI system. I would however like to see more of how his ECU works, safety controls, safety protocols / modes and such. We really do take ECU's for granted, they do way more than most people realise.
@CmdrTobsАй бұрын
Agreed, but just a kit a eliminating carbs and having a 'criuse' closed loop lamda sensor mode as well as better idle control (which is what cars do a lot of the time in the developing world) it's worth it. I doubt his code is MISRA safe, but then these are old low reving cars and the ECU is just doing fuel and ignition on non-interfence engines. The local road quality poses more of a risk
@mohabatkhanmalak1161Ай бұрын
That is brilliant, so many of these old engines need to be upgraded to EFi. Old 1960's, 70's cars with the Bosch early fuel injection and the later 'K'Jetronic systems will do well with full electronic conversion. One question, what sensor inputs go to the ECU (computer) for max efficiency? For example, is there a lambda sensor input to control the injector timing, or ignition timing. I have not seen anyone upgrade the old engines to EFi on the internet.🦁
@Kj16VАй бұрын
You would need: Crank speed sensor Manifold pressure Throttle angle Intake air temp Coolant temp Wideband air/fuel ratio (preferably)
@mohabatkhanmalak1161Ай бұрын
@@Kj16V I was thinking of the other 'basic' inputs as those found in early generation 1 vehicles. The crank speed, I think he gets from the modified distributor as shown in the clip, and I think he has the coolant temp input as well. The Arduino memory capacity, not sure how much it can handle, and for minimum 7-10 sensors must be more higher. More information from the man is required.☘
