Excellent analysis, as a portuguese fan who knows this very well. Only one thing I want to mention, Sporting is not a team that wants possession AT ALL. The reason they have those numbers is because all three big teams in Portugal have them, whether they want it or not. 90% of the teams in Portugal play "park-the-bus" football and completely give the ball up when facing the big three. Sporting has possession because the other teams don't want anything to do with the ball when playing them.

More like every time these smaller teams lose possesion, they concede to parking the bus. Which leads to a game of an endless loop of one of the big 3 (even often times Braga) attacking all game, and the smaller team trying to play off of counters. Which is usually a method that fails them in the end. I know that these teams are technically inferior, but they play with too much fear. Their usually reasonably organized on the defensive end, but put next to nothing on attack

as a Sporting fan, theres three things to know. He did rotate players, usually the two wing backs, the central mid paired with Hjulmand (morita/braganca) and 1 if not two of the central defenders, and one of the attacking 10s, of course depending on health. 2-he is not afraid to make his subs early and often to change the game, usually the wing backs and central mid positions, and often those subs made the impacts he was looking for. like yesterdays match against Braga. 3-his time at Sporting, he definitely prioritizes central defenders during tranfer windows. hope this helps understand Amorim better

The other small detail about his system that I've only seen mentioned one place is that, in this system, ideally, players are basically running backwards and forwards in straight lines, so there's no confusion as to where they go and what they attack or defend. Where as Bruno is all over the pitch now.
@allcruisetv4886Ай бұрын
Good point...... But do you think Rashford will run that kind run 😂😭😭😭
@PNW_CharlesАй бұрын
I think Bruno won't have the need to run around and be everywhere because the rest of the team will be where they should be, doing what needs to be done. My theory is that his current play is based on his perceived need to help everyone else out, rightly or wrongly. If he only has to do his job, like on the Portuguese national team, he can focus and thrive. That's my theory anyway. 😀
@spancebobАй бұрын
Hear me out, bruno will be a cheat code if your assumption is correct. At united bruno is basically playing the hero ball trying to find his teammate, but with amorim arrival player will have a direct pattern to attack so bruno will only have to send the ball to all the designated area where(glimpse of what we see oleball worked) player like rashford excell at that exact system
@PNW_CharlesАй бұрын

@mattos1906Ай бұрын
I’m a sporting fan, and after each game i love to analyze amorim’s tactic for the game. Believe me when I say that if your players are not willing to change, he’ll bench them and get players suited for what he wants, and he’s going to get it right. And even I that don’t watch that many United games, know that he can make Garnacho a WB suited for that position, and if you have a game that he needs more defense, he sits Garnacho and brings Shaw. One of our best WB is only 17y and if you go look at his 1st game defensively it was nothing compared to how he was with City. Amorim doesn’t care if you do a 10* star game, if he feels that the next game he needs another person with different characteristics he’ll sub it.
@owencleaver9766Ай бұрын
@@mattos1906 I think tbh garnacho would suit that direct cam position more than wingback. You know how Amorim plays a deeper more playmaker type cam and then a cam who’s basically just a winger. Lisabon, a team who supplied most of their chances to the striker won the league by a large margin. What a shock. Manchester United's wingers and attacking midfielder creates almost zero chances for the striker because they prefer shooting themselves. However he absolutely will make Utd play in his beloved 3 backline system as soon as he feels confident enough because that's the system he's been perfecting since forever, he has been using that system since he started as a modest 3rd tier coach in Portugal, he used it at Braga where he was able to get ahead of Sporting in the league with a comfortable enough lead that even after moving during the same season and Braga immediately declining, they were still far ahead enough to secure their 3th place finish.

The repetition of processes that makes players comfortable and much more resilient to hardship, the confidence in that "automation" that Amorim seems to be a master at instigating in his players. I think Amorim is going to to try use Antony as a Right sided CAM. Think about it, Antony is the most predictable when he is on the right wing. Teams know that Antony isn't going to cross because he is so one footed, they are waiting for him to cut inside. as a RCAM, he is already inside, he can now just get the ball in that area, use his trickery and pull the trigger. Amorim loves to have a CAM who can invert inside. He will get that with Antony and he will get that with Rashford on the left hand side. There are 5 signings I want Amorim to make; GK2: Manuel Riemann - Free Transfer in summer - Bayindir wants to start, he isn't going to get it. Make a profit and bring in an elite back up Riemann who is one of the best passing GK in the world. With Amorim wanting his keeper to be part of the defensive line with a defender moving forward having a second keeper capable of doing this should Onana get injured is important. RWB1: Jeremie Frimpong - £40m - He is absolutely lightning down the right hand side and a great crosser of the ball. LCB1: Gonçalo Inácio - £50m- Ideal LCB, great passer and tackler. Martinez can now move into being a back up LCB and back up CDM. LWB1: Alvaro Fernandez - £16.7m- Solves a huge problem for United with an incredibly well round Wing back. CM(8): Angel Gomes - Free Transfer in summer - Ideal Kobbie Mainoo back up and someone who can play in both CAM spots under Amorim. would get loads of game time.

About the defencive shape (541) , its not as bad as you think , because the counter to it its just send more man foward to make pressure on the wing backs. Thats when a player with the traits of inácio and debast come in with long passing. Sporting absorbs the pressure , and then does a pass to a gyokeres run. Thats the system´s only "i need this player" , you need a great get in behind striker. Gyokeres is a perfect fit, but when he wasn´t at the club, paulinho could not fit that role , so our attack was worse. Great video !

Looking for MU squad i will say: Onana DALOT - De Ligt - Martinez The midfield he always like to have a combo of a working and fisicaly guy and a more creative and the same with the winger if he plays with a more ofensive one on the right ge uses a more defensive on the left. So it will be something like this: Mazrauoi - Ugarte/Casimiro - Bruno/Mainoo - Luke Shaw At the front he likes the wingers to go into the center so he uses the left foot on the right and the right foot on the left. So looking your squad: Garnacho/Rashforf - Hojlund/Zirkzee - Dialo/Anthony. I am from Portugal (and from Benfica)... perfect analysis... just some points... no system is perfect but you want a system that works most off the time (in his case a LOT) so you have a solid team... second point the players must buy the ideia and work that way (not easy)... final point is that probably you will be surprised to see what he does when he has great players 🤣(ahhh and he can incorporate some off the players from Manchester United young players and give some identity... like they had in the past)

Surprised in a good way or a bad way? 😂 just a concerned United fan.
@jpmarquesptАй бұрын
@@wayneshamba6961 I think you will have a good surprise... just remember that Sporting is with him for 4 years... So I think you have to give them a chance

I can't wait to see Rashford running himself down blind alleys and Bruno giving away possession all the time, but under a different manager 😂😂 I feel sorry for the guy. He's just ended his career

Really itching to see how he'll line up with our player profiles. Perhaps Mount will finally prove his worth. Worried for our wingers though.

As a United fan, I'm excited to see Amorim's tenure start, but I also recognize the lockerroom is a mess. Additionally, Amorim has no real time to implement changes with the coming run of games and the Christmas season looming. I expect the backroom to be active in the January window, and I hope to see some personnel shipped out as well. It may be next season before we get to see Amorim's full vision.

If you have any decent talent at the academy that's where he's gonna be fetching the first reinforcements from most likely, at the very least he'll make use of it to make up for any squad deficiencies.
@cbflazaroАй бұрын
people keep describing his tactic. Amorim's strength is his communication and how he turned a broken set of players into a TEAM. just watch a sporting game and how the subs celebrate every goal and are excited for the teams sucess. Watch a game where players like ronaldo see a team mate score and get mad it wasnt himself score... that wouldnt slide with amorim. We (sporting) had a club legend comeback, slimani, he pulled a strop over not taking over paulinhos spot as a starter, he got quickly dispatched, theres no "untoucheable" players with amorim

As long as we're paying these insane wages to mediocre players, and give them control over the club nothing changes.

I saw the Sporting game, Amorin's style of play suits United. Sit back, sock up all the pressure and get the opponent on the break and punish them.It's what ETH played in his first season while still United manager but he changed it abit in his second and third season, that's why maybe if he had stuck to it, he would have retained his job but that wasn't the case. United are know for misusing space with the way they play by keeping it so compact and let the opponent have possession but then kill him off with quick direct counter attacks.

That microphone is so distracting, why do all the work on great lighting, good set design, well researched interesting content and have a big black microphone on the neck of your jumper?

@admontblancАй бұрын
Tbf neither did Sporting, some were bought for this, and some were adapted to play new roles, though Amorim didn't go for extra crazy stuff so the wingbacks were all, except 1-2 reserves, wing forwards that got pulled back into the role.
@caleb3912Ай бұрын
As a united fan I’m worried about what you said with the low block. Some teams in the prem will just sit back so I don’t know how they will get the space to get in behind. Unless he is able to adapt the system to play around the edge of the opposition box to create space I see that being a big issue

how's the attacking work compare to what Ange is trying to implement at spurs? Similar philosophy re: not having '8's or '6's - wanting them to do a bit of both, getting it up the pitch at pace and getting it across the box for Solanke?

Not common knowledge, but Gyokeres played the last half of the past season injured. Always taped, always grabbing his knee. He had surgery in the summer and now we can see 100% of Gyokeres ability

There are a few things I really like about Amorim and a few big questions I have. I think players being in a more static structured 3-4-3/3-2-5/3-1-6 is better than starting 4-2-3-1, defending 4-4-2 and trying to make 3-2-5/3-1-6 by players moving out of position. Our dumb dumb players will hopefully find this easier, it’ll be fine for players like Maguire and De Ligt who have experience in a back 3 and make up for deficiencies that Martinez, Lindelof and Yoro might have. The attacks being more focused on dribbling into the box could also be good. That style is what Ole tried to do, teams really don’t like it, and that’s why Penandes was a thing. It also hopefully cuts down on the “pass it around till you see an opening” ball. But… was it always the plan to go to a back 3? The rumoured options for new manager have been Amorim, Nagelsman, Tuchel, Inzaghi, they’re all 3 at the back coaches. And if 3 at the back was always the plan from Ineos, and a lot of their transfer business makes me think it was (De Ligt has played in a 3 at Juve and Bayern, Mazraoui is a wing back, Ugarte has played this system, Yoro suits this system) does that mean Branthwaite was lined up as an Ineos signing? Why didn’t we try and get a left wing back more suited to this formation in the summer? That’s definitely the glaring hole in the squad.
