Very interesting! Four Square did very well this year at the IWSC, congratulations Richard! So did we (pushed down to 14th place from last year's perfect score) , and we are in Kingman, AZ. So not all top-tier is made in the Caribbean! :) Shop local, y'all!

I picked up my first bottle of rum from a Foursquare distillery last March in the shop at the cruise port in Barbados. Doorly's. Then I found a bottle of Sagacity (ESC Mark XI). I'm hooked on everything Foursquare now.

All of the Exceptional Cask Selections are amazing. I picked up Premise as my first bottle back in March and was blow away. Next I picked up 2005, then Sagacity. More recently I acquired Nobiliary, 2007, and 2008. The 2008 is my favorite with the 2005 a close 2nd. Hadn't see the 2008 on the shelf in my area (Arizona) till this last week. Any idea when the upcoming ECS offerings should be hitting shelves???

The best spirit I have ever tasted. ..! No bourbon no Scotch no other whiskey compares. If you buy one you will be buying multiple bottles

Love Foursquare rum as a change of pace from whiskey. It can easily be sipped neat like a fine whiskey, but I drink it on the rocks because with it's high proof point I find a little water opens it up nicely.

I’m new to rum, picked up a 2010 and touchstone bottle. I get a strong plastic type of smell and taste. Any recommendations on how to sip this?? I’m not getting any of the fruits and sweet notes. I need help. Thanks😢

Hey Brandon, say you opened up a Foursquare Exceptional Cask bottle to sip on now and again. Can you share any guidance around storage? Will these bottles last up on a shelf, like bourbon, for example? Or should something like Foursquare Exceptional Cask series be consumed within a specific amount of time and say, refrigerated over that time as well? Thanks
@AltamarBrands4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting! They will definitely last on a shelf, but similar to Bourbon, or other whisk(e)y, light and oxygen can also impact character over time. I always suggest to store spirits in a dark (away from sunlight) / cool space if you can - not necessarily refrigerated however - and upright; at least if you want to cellar them for quite some time. Hopefully that helps!

Great video! I have the Exceptional 2004 and even tried the spiced for kicks. I wasn't impressed myself but applaud the honest rum approach. Needs more hogo to make it rounded and less hollow in the middle 🥃
@AltamarBrands4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that! I would strongly encourage you to try some of the newer releases as well; personally (Brandon speaking here) the 2004 is one of the least "hogo"-y of the bunch, but ultimately they're all certainly less "hogo" than you'd find in Jamaica / Martinique etc... In general the more recent releases have been a bit more adventurous (personal opinion there) in character and style. Really appreciate the honest feedback!

I just picked up a bottle of Foursquare Master Series Edition No. 1. I haven’t seen anything on it. It isn’t an exceptional Cask but a Private Cask Selection. Hope it’s good for what i paid
@AltamarBrands4 жыл бұрын
It's quite special, the first "Private Cask Selection" in the US, and it is a US only release! Hope you enjoy!

no mate, there's a special tank in hell for those who put Foursquare rums into cocktails. anyway, liked the video and thanks.

LOL - to each their own! Admittedly I do drink them neat more than anything else, but man, it's hard to fight temptation NOT to put these into cocktails.

I like to tell people Foursquare rum is on par with, if not better than, some of the finest whisk(e)y in the world and it is as complex as some of the best Scotch It is unfortunate that some of the more interesting and/or more highly coveted Foursquare expressions are not distributed in the US: Triptych; Pricipia; Destino; Plenipotentiary et cetera... Eventually, Bourbon and Scotch lovers will figure out that there is fantastic rum out there that is highly undervalued and generally available. Rum has a bad reputation for questionable governance over transparency regarding age statements and use of additives (not that additives are an inherently bad thing) but booze snobs (like myself) collect expressions that represent history and the skill of master distillers/blenders. Personally, I'll take bottles of the best Richard Seale has to offer over any Scotch I have ever had thus far... but I'm also not a fan of Scotch.

I can only agree with you.
@AltamarBrands4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that! And completely understand (Brandon here) - if you haven't had an opportunity to hear Richard explain the reasoning, most of that has to do simply with size of release and demand. In many cases those releases are so small that they sell out within minutes, if not hours; and that is without taking the reach into consideration as well. Obviously I'm thoroughly biased, but I'm thrilled we have these and that the reception has finally grown to what it is. I recall the first few years having legitimate pushback and difficulty from retailers, consumers etc because "no one understands rum" "what's this brand?" etc... As Richard often says, "In Due Course..."

@@AltamarBrands Absolutely! I've been a rum drinker all my adult life (primarily Appleton products as I have family from Jamaica and Barbados). I do not find Appleton juice to be particularly complex but I enjoy the flavors of Joy Spence blends by virtue of my upbringing and it is just good stuff. I only recently got into Foursquare and allocated bourbons. While Appleton remains my favor brand... Foursquare is my most highly regarded rum. I visit Europe frequently and I collect Foursquare products that we cannot get in the US and bring them the the states. The exceptional cask series is excellent but not the best Richard Seale has to offer in my humble opinion... the best Foursquare is not directly distributed to the US and does indeed sell out quickly as the European market already knows how good the juice is. I see a lot of Bourbon enthusiasts venturing into the world of fine rums and I think rum market (and super premium anejo tequila) may very well see a boom like Scotch and Bourbon... I'm just glad I seem to stay slightly ahead of inflation. :-)

@@alexanderk7422 Fantastic! Thank you for that, and we completely agree - Joy Spence is an absolute treasure. A wonderful person and immensely talented. And we certainly appreciate that you're staying ahead of the curve / wave etc... promise, there are some more gems coming!

I don't get the different notes in rum, it is ether a bit sweet, and just a bit of figs, only two dimensional to me.

8% per year 1x0,92^¹⁰=0,43 So 8% per year after 10years gives 43% of the rum left in the barrell. NOT 80% 🤯😅
