I have tried the real McCoy and so far it’s my favorite but the crooked bottle I have only tried the entry level one and I will find the next step up . I have never tried the four square ones yet but soon the hunt is on 😂 🍹

I love Doorlys 12 (43%) and 14 (48%) The 12 is one of my favourite rums of all time. I always recommend it to anybody who asks me about good rum.

Once you've found Doorly's it's hard to try and let go. The 12 at it's price point is a go to. With the 14, I've normally got an ECS open so I don't spend alot of time with the 14 yo although a few samples pass my plate every year so I do get to enjoy it occasionally. It's good to see so many of us recommendeding this great rum....

had doorlys xo loved it but going buy the ten years old seal 1st looked at over many years but never bought one

I completely agree that the R.L. Seale's 10is the the best bang for the buck from Foursquare. I just saw they are coming out with a 12 year

@@NewWorldRumClub the R.L. Seale's 12 came out this week here and it's almost double the price of the 10. it's $50 and the 10 is $27. I'm waiting to see and hear some reviews

Great overview, Simon, i discovered this distillery a few years ago only & bought my first bottle (ECS "Nobiliary") last year & was blown away by it...I know now which ones to have that stay affordable so replacable as well, thanks !

If you have the funds, willing to part with the increasing prices and can get hold of the Shibboleth bottle it should be quite similar to Nobiliary and the yearly releases 2004/5/7/8. I’ll be opening my bottle at the weekend

@@NewWorldRumClub Thanks, i can't unfortunately, and will have to restrain my whisky purchases as well lately...That is why I was curious about cheaper alternatives in your video (Doorly's, R.L.S., etc...). i'm not willing to collect much rums, I also don't have enough room for that, but just wanna have 1 or 2 more good sipping & with no additives rums so Barbados ones & FS in particular seems to be a good option...Cheers !

The price difference between Doorly's and the Real McCoy is ridiculous in my area. $50 for 12 year Real McCoy, but only $25 for Doorly's 12year! Both great rums, but at $25 Doorly's is an absolute steal!

I agree with you that Doorlys at that price is the one to go for. I’m always wanting to explore other rums but sometimes it’s just not worth the extra cost on some of the distilleries core range

I’m brand new to good rum, coming from single malt scotch, Irish, Bourbon and occasionally Tequila. I just had a pour of Foursquare Indelible. It’s nice, but overpriced, not very complex and too much like bourbon! Are there rums out there that are lighter bodied, less sweet, and have some actual tropical fruit notes prominent? Thanks

Facebook groups are the best place. There’s a Foursquare appreciation society page which is good. We also have a uk rum club fb page which highlights uk specific releases. Even with this info, it’s hard to get hold of them now

Hello, just getting into the rum game! Normally a Scotch drinker. What should I try first?

I’d go for the winner in my video which was the R L Seales 10yo (£40, 46%) but you just can’t go wrong with either the Doorly’s xo or 12yo especially as you can choose between the 40% and 43% abv. As an alternative, try something from Jamaica like an Appleton 12 or a Hampden 8 yo. Let me know how you get as like hearing your feedback on what works for you....

@@NewWorldRumClub was taking to a retailer with Detente and Redoutable for £160, would you say that worth it?

If you’re ok with higher Abvs then both are excellent. Detente is a fantastic port cask finish that I’m struggling to not drink through the bottle too quickly as it’s a very easy sipper. The Redoutable is a Madeira finish, slightly drier and packs more of a punch (partly due to 61%abv), but again, another fantastic expression that more scotch people would hopefully enjoy. Retail was 60 for Detente and 73 for Redoutable. You’ll struggle to find either so 160 isn’t too far off the mark if you can get hold of them. I know plenty of people who would pay more......

The next will likely to be Foursquare 2009 in April but not sure it will land in the uk until after Europe. In the past there’s been 2-3 bottles a year and the occasional PCS bottle to look out for. Best place for info is the fb groups so keep a look out as that’s where I normally get my info from

White foursquare 2015 on rum auctioneer its still cheap now. gargano sad this bottles are underaded now but wait over 5 years the first and special editions like the 2015 wil be high collector items.

It’s one I’m trying to get hold of at the minute so thanks for raising the auction sites as found one this morning. I’ve not explored the habitation Velier series yet but I need to start journey with them. Interesting to hear what Luca said about them.... he’s normally right as well 😏

@@NewWorldRumClub you are welcome i got the 2013 and 2015 and a hampden only tasted the 2013 its strong compare to a 2008 but that is normale for a 2 year old rum.

But does Doorly 12 yr fare better than RL Seale 10 yr? Sure RL Seale has the more interesting bottle but if the taste isn't better than its just marketing.

In my opinion, the RL Seale is slightly better than the Doorly 12. But I love them both. I'm in the US, and the prices are very close, in fact close enough to make the RL Seale the better buy. Because they are so close, my recommendation is to buy both, decide which you like better, and stick with it. Or, you can do like I do, and keep a bottle of both in my bar because they are so reasonably priced.
