Fourth Crusade - Sack of Constantinople (1204) Medieval Kingdoms Mod

In 1204 CE Constantinople, after nine centuries of all siege defending, was brutally sacked!
Actually I wasn't planning to share this, historical facts are usually hard to explain and I do not want to give incorrect information. Anyway I tried as much as I can do. I dont know why but there are audio clipping in some part of the video and usually occur after uploading the video. Enjoy!

Constantinople was not taken from land. The Theodosian walls held. It was taken from the sea. The Crusaders took Galata first and then demolished the Megas Pyrgos, the tower which held the chain on Galata's side. After that they covered their ships with wet leather, which turned out to be rather resistant to Greek fire. Thanks to that they defeated the Byzantine naval squadron in the Golden Horn. Then they were able to scale the weak Golden Horn walls. This was taken from Kenneth M. Setton, "A History of the Crusades, Volume II the Later Crusades, 1189 - 1311."

This is bullshit. The memoirs of a knight who participated in sacking Constantinople have survived. I read them. The city did not resist, it was easily overrun, there were no Varangians whatsoever, there were few dosen of Saxon mercenaries, who manned the walls, they were quickly killed and that was the end of any resistance, the city was plundered

to be fair the Byzantines brought this upon themselves, the capital was at risk of being sacked decades earlier by Barbarossa for the same reasons the Byzantines deceitfulness, corruption, and incompetence. Still such a golden city did not deserve to be harmed this much by the Franks

Let's not forget, Venice was technically a byzantine vassal. The fact that the byzantines, who were in constant civil wars, were knocked by their own vassal, just means that the true enemy of the byzantines were really themselves.

This video is to far from history there more multiple historical inaccuracies like why the heck did the venetians join the Crusaders in the assault of the golden horn the Crusaders are the only one that takes it and the Byzantine army is too weak and they barely fight back against the well trained well disciplined and veteran Crusaders. the only thing that can fight back the Crusaders are the varangian guard. 🏆 Videos are excellent! I understand why some people say they are hard to watch: because they depict reallity. However, it would be good to cut just a few beheading scenes, or not to show them too close. For those interested in "reality" Ironclad movie is very good. You could also make the SIEGE OF ROCHESTER CASTLE, BY KING JOHN. What is not real in Ironclad is that there were around 180 knights, plus squires, etc., and not the dozen of the movie. Also, they finally surrender. Nobody came to rescue them. But other than this, it is a good film... for historians... it is in a gloomy England, people living frugally. Very real! Thank you for all these nice videos! 😄

Your history is wrong on so many levels its insane. The reason the crusaders sacked constaninople is becausd the arguably rightful emperor asked the crusades to help put his father back on the throne and if they did he would pay back the venetians for the fleet. After much debate among the crusaders they agreed to and did so without bloodshed. The byzantine emperor was making good on his promise and became friends the crusaders and allowed them to camp outside the walls of constantinople. But before he could raise the money the nobles revolted and killed the emperor and declared war on the crusader army.

False myths and false readings of the Fourth Crusade. When one thinks of the Crusades in general, one imagines episodes of supreme fanaticism that someone, overseas, has compared to today's Islamic state. This thesis, already in itself easily dismantled, is revived when one thinks of the Fourth Crusade which, according to some, deliberately struck the allied city of Constantinople. Nothing could be more false. First of all we need to remember the political outline of the Crusade; Venice, at that time, was in full commercial expansion due to the ports it had acquired, through the Christian expeditions, in the East and in the Aegean. Concerned by such a power of the Venetians, Emperor Manuele Komnenos had first supported the same Serenissima against Barbarossa, to reconquer Italy, later he had the Venetians incarcerated on the Byzantine soil, confiscating their assets: this produced a five-year war between the two cities. Added to this was the fact that, during the first crusade, mutual disagreements between Easterners and Catholics had occurred, insults that led to the betrayal of Constantinople during the Second Crusade when the Basileus Manuele (always him) betrayed the Crusaders leaving them at the mercy of themselves in full Anatolia among the continuous ambushes of the Turks. As if it were not enough to create tensions, there was the continuing pressure of the Basileus on the Principality of Antioch, already in struggle with the Sultanates of Aleppo and Mosul. Returning to the facts, after the Sacking of Zara (condemned by the same pontiff), the crusaders arrived in Constantinople to ask, once again, the help of occasional allies-enemies getting involved in the fratricidal war between Alexius III and his brother Alexius, the future Alessio IV. In return for their help, the crusaders would be paid, rewarded, and the Orthodox church would return to the Roman church. Convinced by these promises, despite being treated as mercenaries, the Crusaders agreed to help Alexis, who, escorted by the western knights, entered Byzantium. None of the promises were respected and the crusaders were left to starve to death during the winter between 1203-1204, undergoing several lynchings by the locals supported by the new emperor Alex V Murzuflo, determined not to give them anything. It was the straw that broke the vase: the siege was placed in April. On the 12th of the month, the knights entered Constantinople, determined to make it pay to the Byzantines ....
