Thanks for the great vid. I put a porta power on the frame to the spring, and it pulled right apart. I tried for a couple of hours to get that E clip out to replace the bearings, and failed. My intent is to replace the rear drive lines (one has spun our the spline in the slip joint) so your tips still work great. I think I can reuse the old bearings: not much slop and seem to be intact. The new drive lines should slip right in and I will reassemble using the reverse of your method. Again, thanks.

Dog gon , drop the uni joint,remove brake drum drive shaft back towards the inside,now remove axles from diff with a bit of a bump, reverse to replace, 25 minutes remove and replace both sides,

If you use the threaded rod method, make the nuts tight, some torque on them, and the hammer the end of the threaded rod a little then put more pressure on the nut, if you can do this at the same time its the best of both worlds. Putting them back in, if you want them cold for shrinking them, overnight in dry ice is even colder than your freezer. You might be able to find someplace around town that sells it..I've also seen a guy unload a CO2 fire extinguisher on a piece.

Good vid, very helpful just did this. Dont need to drop front leaf lots of play. Had to do all running gear universals and bearings. Ended up dropping whole back axle brace. Easy to do and easier to work with it on bench. Spring clip was a bitch but easy with it on bench and your tip of hooked seal puller. Thanks

I found that the outer axle shaft needs to be fully seated in the bearing and with the outer spacer and brake drum bolted on. Otherwise you run the risk of “jacking” the bearing guts out the hubs! Ask me how I know.

I was able to do everything here but I have a problem with the inner shaft that goes into the differential. I used the snap ring clip to ensure the seal and housing were tight around the shaft and then bolted it in with the 6 bolts. The inner axle keeps coming loose and inching out from the differential and and leaking. What did I miss? I took it apart 3 times and the clip is off each time. But it was seated tightly on the axle when it went in . I even tried a new C clip that shipped with replacement axle.

if you need to change just one axle shaft do you still have to remove the leaf springs and shocks on the other side. so far the best video on this procedure.

Yes you still have to remove the other leaf spring because that lets the crossmember shift to the side to be able to remove the axle

Just curious why you didn’t just remove the four bolts holding the leaf spring plate to the axle/frame member? Seems like you could have left the springs in place then. I’m doing this job right now and am looking for tips.
