Hey there! Really awesome video and learned a lot about sculpting and creating characters through it specifically. I had a question though! One thing that seems useful that I couldn't figure out on my own was how you merged the fur with the neck and were able to sculpt them together. I merged mine with control+j but I dont get what you did past that, did you boolean it? At 8:57, I see you draw some kind of box around it and then adjust the power or sensitivity of something and they seemed to suddenly be merged together, still learning and just really curious what you did there, I'm working on a proto model for a friendo as a gift and just as a creative outlet. I also saw you say that you keep it smooth by slowlu upping the resolution and i was curious how you were doing that, are you using a subdivision modifier or multiresolution modifier to do so? Sorry for all the questions! >.< just very new to the sculpting side of things love sourcing information from other people with experience. Thank you so much! I love the videos and have been binging through them recently! You do such a great job!
@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
XD it's actually all the same thing, voxel remesh, in sculpt more press shift+r to show a grid and adjust the resolution, then use ctrl+r to remesh, that merges all overlapping loos parts together and gives everything a uniform resolution

Thanks =) I've been using Zbrush a bit recently, and I'd say it's a bit better for sculpting than blender, but blender is catching up, and it has the advantage that it also has the rendering tools and such in there too. I'm new to sculpting and I want to learn it. I just got a drawing tablet but I have no idea how to get started with sculpting. There are alot of following along tutorials like the donut but not too many following along tutorials about sculpting. Can someone help me with that? I know what all the brushes do, I just have no idea how I would hav to start with character modeling.
@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
it's hard to make a follow along tutorial for sculpting because it's not a straight forward, step by step process. It's very organic and you just kinda figure stuff out as you go and see which brushes work for what you're trying to do. I'd recommend starting by just adding in a few objects with and making the rough shape of what you wanna sculpt then merging them together (join with ctrl+j then remesh in sculpt mode, shift+r and ctrl+r ) and just trying stuff out and seeing how it goes. also watching timelapses from different people (for both blender and zbrush) if quite useful to get an idea of hoe different people approach different parts of the process
@wiczus61023 жыл бұрын
Why not make a copy with merged hair and one without merge and then apply bump map? It'd remove the creases and it would retain the usability of the model.

@RoseRedTiger3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's much in terms of tutorials for this workflow, but basically: I add an object then merge down everything into 1 vertex. then I add a subdivision surface modifier, a skin modifier, and another subdivision surface modifier. from there you can extrude the vertex into the shape you want for the hair, and use shift+a to adjust the thickness of each segment. duplicate and adjust that object to make more hairs or and you can add a mirror modifier (with the mirror object set to the head) to mirror the fur across once you're happy with the general shape, apply the modifiers and add more detail in sculpt mode. finally when you want to merge it together with the rest of the head, select everything, join and then in sculpt mode remesh with a really small voxel size
