Then I watch Hubnut and remember the bliss of a 'modern' car (ok 15 year old Skoda counts as modern to me). 70,000 for Christmas...and then I'm convinced you will be taking off. Talking car names, and taking off, many of us look at the plate to see what pops up. The 707 made me think of the days of BOAC when they got their first Boeing jets and Speedbird was an appropriate callsign...Maybe not as appropriate as Concorde, which even looked like the Speedbird logo (all the way from Imperial Airways). Still the 707 would make it one of my favourite plates. Love the 707.

Sometimes you just have those days. Car ends up worse than when you started (or in your case, several of them). You become increasingly monosyllabic/sweary. A piece of string can be used as a choke cable, just loop it around something to get it to pull in the right direction, poke through the hole the cable runs through and use a clothes peg or crocodile clip to hold in place after removing choke pull. You will then become a fully paid up member of the Bodgers Union. Often wondered how a car can have an off day like we do, it is an inanimate object that somehow has a soul. Pressie heading to PO box should be there by Friday if An Post and Royal Mail get their acts together. You and the Family have a safe and pleasant Christmas.

When I changed the plugs in my Kitten, I fitted some champion plugs that have a smaller nut size. The socket that fits them just about fits in next to the distributor allowing them all to be removed without disturbing it. The Gaz front shocks are expensive but worth it. Defiantly worth putting on your Christmas list. The front of my kitten now feels like a little sports car. Unfortunately, the back end still feels like a potato cart. Even after we changed the "tiny dampers". I find that lower tyre pressures and a couple of sacks of potatoes on the back seat improves things a little.

Well, one project checked off the list, a few more to go. Reminder kind sir; CHECK FOXANN'S DIFF, THEN CHANGE GEAR OIL. Next, replace spark plugs. Both will help, at least I'm assuming so, I'm not a mechanic, nor do I try to be, so any mechanical issues you attack I heartily applaud! And yes, YOU CLEARLY NEED AN ASSISTANT! When backing up Foxann and seeing her turn to the left, I thought Oh No, please STOP! I wish I could help you, but I am on the other side of the pond, but watching you makes me wish I could be there to help, even if I was utterly useless! Another of your videos that has made my day! PS: I hope Miss HubNut is not angry anymore, she sent me Christmas wishes in Welsh, which is so sweet! Be good to her, she's a keeper!
@johnmoruzzi72364 жыл бұрын
Agreed... diff oil leak fix and transmission oil change should be a priority otherwise he’ll risk damaging it like the Invacar’s back axle. Wire brush and Waxoyl all the grot under the back of the car and the rear end should be sorted then.
@frothe424 жыл бұрын
@@johnmoruzzi7236 I totally agree! I'm not sure if driving to warm up the differential oil is a good idea, but Sir HubNut definitely needs a heating device to stave off the cold. I think he has a Haynes repair manual so that will tell how much fluid the differential will take, and I agree that that transmission might need looking at as well. Once Foxann is sorted he can concentrate on another in the fleet!

LOL Elle was smart and told you she was going to have no part of dragging Foxanna up the hill. Old cars. Proof that we love to torture ourselves keeping old hoopties in some form of running condition.
@KiwiStag744 жыл бұрын
Funny thing - when you finally got Foxanne away in the garage after her trip down the drive, I thought to myself "well, at least it isn't raining". Cut to you with a well-earned smile on your face and a running Foxanne and....what? It's a wet day! Oh how many of us can empathise with your bad day, mate. I've had days where I have also muttered about 'hating cars' and threatened them all with the scrap metal merchant. Cars are funny things that tend to be at least as stubborn as we are (as you probably know) and I too have spent all day trying to get a car to fire up, have given up, come back the next day and the thing has fired up perfectly with no modification to anything under the bonnet. I have even asked the car the same question you did - "So why are you behaving so well today, if you would not fire up for me the other day, eh?" My car never answered the question, either. Obviously Foxanne just did not want to go anywhere and I think Elly knew what you wanted to start her up for and she decided she'd rather stay nice and cosy warm in the shed, thankyou very much. Pleased the damage to the Daihatsu wasn't terminal - that was not a pleasant 'clonk' to hear, I bet! Two things I noted about the Fox though - I'm wondering if the voltage stabiliser (used extensively in BL cars of the era and with Smiths gauges) was a feature that was also used in the Fox's build and if so, I reckon you might have an easy fix for your deceptive temp gauge. I had an issue with my Triumph 2500S recently where the temp gauge started creeping up and after a few weeks, it eventually started reading near three quarters (or more) on the gauge. It was down to a bad earth on the back of the speedo....which also has the voltage stabiliser (for the fuel and temp gauges) screwed to the back of it. Replaced the stabiliser (just in case) and gave it a better earth (and an extra one just to be sure) and now the gauge sits steady between quarter and half way and never moves once the car is up to temperature - just like it used to. Pity I bought a water pump, thermostat and radiator to go into it before I thought of the simple electrical issue that it 'might' be, but I can still keep them for when there is a REAL temperature issue. I also noted the volt meter in the Fox is very slow to get up to 13v (in the video) and does not rise much above it. If a vehicle has sat for a while, it can take the old alternator a few regular drives to fully wake up again, so don't be too concerned unless it drops below 12v with the lights and wipers on when above idle speed / driving. All the best, Ian. Great content and subject matter as always - and as I said, man I truly empathise with your experience that day! It's good to know other people have crap experiences with maintenance and it's not all like what you see on many other car repair shows on TV (or even KZbin for that matter!)
