COMMENT UPDATE! This video is over 2 years old, and at this point, most of the lower priced dropper posts work very well. The OneUp Dropper V2 has been extremely reliable, and other options from brands like PNW Components are very reliable as well. The Fox Transfer Post still _feels_ the most high end, but the others work very, very well.

Comments FAQ: Is the OneUp dropper post better than the Transfer Post?: The OneUp Dropper V1 has consistent issues, and we warrantied about 50% of the ones we sold. We actually stopped selling them due to so many issues. The V2 model seems to have fixed those options, but still OneUp recommends everyone to take them apart to add air pressure before installing it. Yes, its cheaper, but also feels cheaper and requires a little elbow grease every once in a while. The PNW Rainier also seems to require frequent collar greasing and air pressure maintenance to keep it running smooth. Is the Bike Yoke Revive better than the Transfer post?: The Bike Yoke Revive is an awesome seatpost and we highly recommend it. However, we've found they need more frequent maintenance to keep them running smooth. The two best droppers are the Transfer Post and Revive, however the Transfer Post took the cake since we barely ever see them require any maintenance.

@The Lost Co. So I've actually been having some issues with my transfer post. It's the performance elite version. What happens is that it sometimes stop about an inch from the top. This could happen even when it was "new" (it came with a complete bike). I first thought it was due to cable tension but after trying to optimize that I've kept noticung the same thing now and then. It seems very weak at the top so if I touch it ever so slightly during the last 1/5 of its way up it stops. Most importantly it won't continue up from there if I press the lever again. I switched to a Wolf Tooth Remote (LA) but I've kept having the same problem (love the lever though). I've tried using WPL fork lube on the stanchion but without effect.

Mtb suspension is so good already these days though. I have the RockShoks Reverb for 4 years now without a single issue. it was never serviced and works great. Before that, I had the KS Eten which also worked perfectly. I found that pro #3 is quite ridiculous... I think that the lockout noise is a result of how hard your rebound adjustment is so if the rebound is set to be fast, the noise will be louder, and also you can feel the lockout.

Mine is still going strong. First dropper I used came with my Kona 134 back in 2014 that was revolutionary to me but not sure what brand it was. For some reason a year later I felt the need to get a reverb, what a POS that broke all the time, but I'm sure I'm the only one that had a broken reverb. Current transfer going strong with my wolf tooth lever.

There are a few points worth mentioning about these posts: 1) the operating pressure changed between 2017 and 2018+ models from 400psi to 300psi, respectively. As you may know, lower operating pressure generally yields smoother action (given like-for-like speed). This factoid was expressed to me by some technician that took in my 2017 model for service... 2) These systems are Nitrogen-charged because such gas maintains the same pressure between a temperature range (forgot the exact low & high ends). You can already deduce the benefit of the temperature tolerance. What sucks is the expertise needed, or necessity for proper equipment to nitrogen-charge them when servicing.

Alwasy Kashima to for me. I have my 3 Fox Transfers, my oldest one being almost 3 years old. They are just awesome posts, no problems at all, and works as good now as it did when it was brand new. The rockshox hydraulic lever is hands the nicest lever I have used, the post, not so much. I swapped it out for a Oneup version 1 with a wolf tooth lever. The lever feel blows compared to the RS, but it works. The Oneup post is ok so far, it's on the spare bike so it doesn't get much use. Currently using a bikeyoke 185 (i think) and really liking it, especially the bleed off value they use. Only had it for a 1 riding summer so we'll see how it goes.

And if you have a angle seat tube(trek slash) it adds even more stack. It also has play from left to right. For 125mm it has 405mm. The oneup components 120mm has 350mm.

I’ve had the Factory Kashima post less than 8 months. It quit working (not cable related) and my shop said it’s been common recently. He sent it to fox for a warranty repair. Fox said it was just normal wear and refused to honor the warranty. I’m 70 years old, probably average 2 not so tough rides a week and take good care of my bike. My bike shop paid for the service and I’ll help them out by ordering a new, different, post.

BEST? That's highly subjective. I have a Transfer, I also own a KS Lev, both posts have been awesome for me, with the advantage going to the KS Lev because I can service it at home, something you can't say for the Transfer, at least not without special tools and lots of hassle. I find a post that's reliable and can be maintained at home without having to send it out for weeks to be serviced much more deserving of the title "best", even then still subjective.
@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo 5 жыл бұрын
Not being able to service the Transfer at home isn't a big deal because it needs no consistent maintenance to keep it working. The KS LEV allows you to do a sleeve service and cartridge replacement at home, which is nice because it requires maintenance to keep it working. We all decided that we would rather have a post with no issues that can go 2-3 years without a service instead of being able to service the post ourselves and take it apart every couple months to keep it working.

The Transfer might be relieable, but thats it. There are plenty relieable posts on the market and the fox one feels clunky while also managing to be one of the most expensive ones. If you have that ammount of money to spend on a seatpost, the bikejoke revive is much nicer and can be bleed within 10 seconds.

Have you ever actually used a Fox Transfer? It's the nicest feeling for sure. The sound, the construction, and reliability is amazing. The Bike Yoke Revive is also great, but requires a bit more maintenance to keep it running smooth.

Good stuff! Just bought a Surly Ice Cream Truck (info on my channel) and one of the reasons why is because it is dropper seat post ready. I will be looking at this one for sure!

i have a fox transfer non kashima that came with my bike and the return speed is SO SLOOOOWWWWW....I took the whole bike back to the bike shop to show the manager there and he tells me "it's supposed to be that way" as if I don't own 3 other droppers of various different brands that don't do this....

I like the transfer, have on my hardtail, but not enough drop for my big bike. Have a 200mm fall line and the amount of extra travel is pretty awesome, the reliability (or there lackof) is not

Not a fan. Got it because it was there and it was Fox, but the stock Bontrager dropper post was better. I've had quite a few issues with it after only 3 rides.

Oddest thing. I stumbled across this great review of the Fox Transfer Post while trying to find a video of how to get my Fox Transfer Post to work. It's simply the worst dropper I've ever had. Slow to extend then gets stuck an inch or two from fully extended every single time. Tried cleaning, greasing, adjusting the seat post clamp every sort of which way. Even tried it without a seat post clamp just to see if it would pop up satisfactorily. Nope. How can such a high cost, high end product that looks so good work so poorly? I see several videos with owners reporting the same issues.

Hey Conrad! Sorry you're having problems with you post, sounds like it just needs a service and it should be good as new again! We can rebuild it here at The Lost Co or you can send it in to Fox, give us a call and we can help you figure something out! -Tor

Don’t agree with the comment about bragging to your friends about servicing your equipment. I see it as a negative that I would need to send my equipment away to be serviced, longer time out of action, more cost and inconvenience by a long shot. On the flip side - a lot of people probably wouldn’t really have a clue either so there is an element there to consider where lace of serviceability is a pro.

CON: Need to hit the perfect amount of torque when setting it in the frame (4-5nm depending on frame)... if just a bit too tight it will stick, if a bit too loose, the seat can wiggle slightly
