Great ... The finback worked real well in Florida. 5 days after they put it up,it collapsed. Great job odot
@erikanders33439 ай бұрын
well it was also built in Florida with their dysfunctional government and using cheep Chinese steel. "National Transportation and Safety Board officials later concluded the design firm underestimated the load of the bridge and overestimated its strength in a critical section that splintered."

Based on Portland’s and Oregon’s longstanding hostility to the automobile I am not convinced the bridge will EVER be replaced. In addition, the costs to satisfy the demands of all the interest groups will make the bridge unaffordable. Eventually, the existing bridge will fall into the river. Another great victory for Oregon.
@erikanders33439 ай бұрын
its not about hostility to the automobile, its that Washington and specifically Vancouver refuses to pay for any of it. Which is why Oregon always brings up a toll on the bridge going south.

and why does Vancouver have such antipathy to it? Simply called Tri-Met, when Tri-Met no longer has 'any' role in the needed bridge it will see much welcoming by Vancouver... @@erikanders3343

Sea level rise should be the seventh issue to be addressed in a bridge that is to last 100 years.

Maybe if you're on the planning committee or stand to benefit politically these renderings look great, but if you're from Vancouver these are all offensive monstrosities.

Did you seriously just say we need to incorporate “climate” and “equity” into the bridge’s design? 😂
@kevinmanan13042 ай бұрын
They should? Imagine a bridge designed with a toll of $7 to fund it. It’ll be a burden to those who need it but can’t afford the one way $7 toll. That’s 30 min worth of work at minimum wage gone. It gets cold in PNW, bridge roads freeze first, they should have climate in mind otherwise people will drive off the bridge in winter like the 205 where the snow accumulates making a ramp off the bridge.
@markdavis8888Ай бұрын
I5 bridge replace has glossed over the most important issue. How will Portland and Vancouver survive without the I5 bridge for the years it takes to remove and build? The economy of this area will crash without that river crossing. The bridge should not be removed until another crossing is in place. I don't understand how our leadership, if you can call it that, can be so clueless.
@johndunkle4722 ай бұрын
Additional bridges, plain simple bridges. No wasted money on light rail or any other waste of money ideas. If you had 4 or 5 bridges across the river you would solve your traffic problems. The amount of money our "elected" politicians have wasted talking about it, have paid themselves all these years talking about it there could have been multiple new bridges built by now. When we put into office clueless people you get what we now have.

The first problem with this bridge is that is looks like LOOT rail is going across it. We do not need any more Portland criminals in Clark County. If the 3rd bridge would have been build in the 1990's, All those wishing to avoid Portland could be using that bridge as well as the 205 bridge. Clark County to Beaverton and points west. A win-win. Any bridge with light rail service -- lost my interest and I will vote against.
