Police officer hit, killed by semi-truck near Santaquin

A semi-truck driver suspected of hitting and killing a Santaquin police officer on Interstate 15 early Sunday has been apprehended after fleeing over 150 miles away.

What I don’t understand is why the officer didn’t just get out of the way. One would think you would see a semi truck driving the wrong way on the freeway at you and you would run out of the way. If a vehicle is being driven towards you, you use deadly force. Were shots fired? Maybe there is some other part of the story that isn’t being mentioned right now.

right? So he takes off in the semi..... then makes a U-turn and drives down wrong side of hwy to hit the cops? If that's correct, didn't the cops follow the truck when it took off? It's not like a semi truck can do a U-turn on a dime right? 🤔

I work at a gas station that is really close to where this took place. In fact he stole another semi from our parking lot just minutes after the trooper was hit. Santaquin PD and UHP decided that it would be best to get reinforcements against the semi before following. Knowing it was a slow vehicle and the individual at the time hadnt done anything worse then just running they decided the best move was to stay put and wait for him to stop running. It was at this time that payne (suspect) decided that he wanted to turn around and go after the police since they didn't chase. I'm not sure why the officer was out of his vehicle, I've heard shots were fired but i have not confirmed it. @@gunfunandstuff9226

The report doesn’t make sense. so were there two people on the semi truck? The driver, who may not have known that the suspect was in the back of his truck, and obviously the suspect. Did the driver of the semi truck stop because of the police, and then the suspect got into the cab and stole the truck? Or was the suspect also the driver of the semi truck?

I’m always hesitant about cop clips. Was he a clean cop? Dirty cop? Did he protect his fellow officers who did bad things? It’s too hard to feel bad for them knowing that soo many cops are bad themselves or help crooked cops

They're upset that basically a family member died, and it's part of the job benefits. Cops are expected to go into dangerous situations, and if things go south, the cop can be sure everyone will be there to help them in any way possible.

Gosh! You are so incredibly brilliant and empathetic. I believe that if you applied for a position in law enforcement you could totally change the profession for the better. Imagine, showing up at a domestic violence situation and you tell the couple to hug it out! Heck if the abuser points the weapon at you then you are so beyond us spiritually that you wouldn't even perish if you were shot. You would be consecrated as a saint among mere mortals. Please, I beg you. Become a cop and teach each and everyone the way to handle each and every situation they could come upon.
