I honestly cannot fathom how they could not have preserved the complete Alamo, considering it is basically a Texas Shrine. Very disrespectful to the memory and those who died there.

The majority of the walls and buildings were demolished by the Mexican Army after San Jacinto when the forces occupying the Alamo were ordered to return to Mexico. The surviving walls/buildings were demolished and destroyed (by people and by natural elements) in a time period when people had yet to even comprehend the importance and significance of the place. Humans in the 1840s didn't have that awareness of preservation and conservation of 'anything' like we do today.

@@SpazzAttack78 That is all understood, but they should have never allowed buildings to be built on the sacred area of the Alamo. In more recent times is what I'm saying. Through archaeology, decades and decades ago, they could have found the extent of the fortress walls and then preserved the area.

I have been to the Alamo about 4 times for business or travel. Each time I learn something new. No, the cellar was dug about 5 or so years ago. It is a storage for the gift store. I have been to Mexico City and visited Chapultepec. There is a small room with a display case of 2 long guns, 1 pistol, the flag of the New Orleans Blues, and a lance pennant. The applets of Santa Anna and his dueling pistols. Beside the display case is a small cannon, probably a 2lb. on a wood, naval type carriage. At the end of the room is the original 1834 Mexican Constitution. Nothing else. The room has a sign in English and Spanish. It only said "Alamo"

It should be that all the real Alamo site property be bought and made to look as it did at the time of the Alamo battle. Sad ! that many such sites are lost in the USA ! GO ARMY

Fun fact, more rounds are fire in Houston each year than all the rounds fire during the battle of the Alamo.
