Mr. Miu did not go over to those kids to intentionally harm them. They were all drunk and bullying him for their own pleasure. Now they want to play innocent lambs but the video tells another story. He only used the knife when he was surrounded by the boys after being pushed in the water, I can see how he would be afraid for his life. He was attacked with hands to his throat, 51:26 is where he is being choked. I see that portion as self-defense. Just a horrible situation all the way around.

I think there must have been a lot of community pressure for the charges, because I just don't believe this guy had murder on his mind, ever. This is a heartbreaking tragedy and hopefully a meaningful lesson, especially for those who shouldn't be drinking in the first place. So many medical emergencies of all types originate from alcohol abuse. It's incredibly sad that this conflict resulted in all this devastation, but this guy had a right to defend himself and he had good reason to be afraid.

When I was 18 I graduated and was I was held to the same exact standard I’m held as a 28 year old ADULT. None of my friends ever treated people like this and we all knew a group like these assholes. I still drink and smoke and did with my friends then, it’s no excuse to be animals. A group of rowdy, drunk and high teens being loud and aggressive..watching that video with their noise and shouting gave me huge anxiety. I too would've been fearful, overwhelmed and when shoved into the water, being held down and throttled, I would have defended myself too. This is an extremely unfortunate situation, but this man needs to be set free and to be able to go home to his fur baby. The video clearly shows him starting the physical altercation with a knife in his hand. Nobody had assaulted him until he pushed/punched the girl in the face. He even stabbed the girl before he was punched. Then he stuck everyone that approached him

Understandable that his quest to retrieve the lost cellphone was paramount, primarily due to the finical cost and headache or problematic nature in replacing the hardware and, more importantly, the digital contents. The reason he is considered WEIRD by the spoiled brats is their notion of a lost cellphone in the river is simple, they will have mommy & daddy BUY them another, and not just another, but a new more expensive updated model. First attempting to throw away and hide the knife... then claims he wasn't involved in a fight, then claimed to have no idea about a stabbing....then claimed he knew about it, but he didnt stab anyone..... then claimed ok it was actually 'me who stabbed them, but it wasnt my knife, that i took it from the kids and it was self defense' You absolutely do not get to punch a woman in the face, and then stab other people when you get beat up for it and claim self defense. Not sure if you're aware how our laws work, but you cannot start a fight and THEN stab/shoot someone when you're losing the fight. and 2. You also do not get to stab and murder people because they are yelling it you. We have laws like this so people arent running around stabbing each other every time they get into a verbal argument. It what separates humans from animals.

I watched the Miu police interview. He said he was drinking all day on the river with no water. He was just as intoxicated as anyone at the scene and it showed in the video. He could have made better choices. He lied about who had the knife to start with. He threw the knife away. He made no effort to call the police after the incident. He went back to his group and went on as nothing happened. He played stupid in the police cruiser. He had the knife and used it when he had several chances to walk away. Tragic!

I have trouble viewing him as an innocent victim. He helped to escalate the situation. And was even smiling when the two ladies were telling him to leave. But I don’t agree that first degree murder is the correct charge. And each stabbing victim has to be viewed differently according to the situation in which he stabbed them. Not all were self defense. Some were.

He looks so frail and sick. This whole situation is so horrible and I hate it for both sides. If I were a juror, with everything that is being presented, I have to say it was self defense. I am so sorry it resulted in a 17 yo death, I feel for his parents. All the young people involved are also responsible for this result. They should not be drinking, they should not be bullying an older person. 1 against 13... all was fun and laughs untill the man defended himself.
