Key defensive players from that NFC championship team got older and worse, the Vikings didn't invest in the O line for their non mobile pocket passing quarterback. It's not 100% on Kirk, it takes a team to win. Jordan got help, Kobe had help, Tom Brady had help. There is not one player who carries an entire team alone to a championship especially in the NFL.

The Vikings haven’t had the consistency and stability at that Kirk has brought since Tarkenton retired in 1979……which was 44 years ago. #1 Before Kirk, Tarkenton was the last quarterback to start for more than six seasons in a row #2 The only other QBs with any stability were Kramer and Culpepper #3 Kramer was plagued by injuries in his eleven seasons spent with the Vikings #4 Culpepper wasn’t good without Moss (or so I’ve read) #5 Kirk is 17-4 with KOC #6 NOBODY is ever gonna forget that crazy 13-4 season and who the quarterback was for the team #7 NOBODY is ever gonna forget “Kirko Chainz” either Everybody is acting like having a bad defense for three straight seasons didn’t affect wins.

The Vikings didn't have to pay 180 million. All they needed to do was offer 3 years at way less money. They showed Kirk no respect and they will be crying for years. Kirk has played 98% better than the average quarterback. Only 20 quarterbacks since 1947 have accomplished that. And he did it with a poor offensive line. Incredible player.

His career passer rating is 98.2 which is the 8th highest passer rating in NFL history....in NFL history. He did his part. It's too bad the defense has stunk for most of his time here.

50-37 in 6 seasons with Minn. Threw for almost 24,000 yards, had 171 TD passes, and a QB Rating I believe about 101. This is with a very spotty and inconsistent O line. Not his fault the Viking organization has ZERO ability to draft and develop Offensive Linemen. Pretty darn good numbers. Not sure what more people in Minn could have asked from him?

Kwesi has destroyed a team that was a couple lineman and a corner from winning it all. With Kirk we beat the 49ers, outplayed the Eagles when they were still playing well and would have won if J J doesn't fumble inside the one on first and goal. And we should have beaten the Chiefs but were robbed by the refs. If we are not leading the league by a mile in drops and fumbles we are 8-0 with 3 games against the best teams in the league. NICE GOING KWESI, you have destroyed the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell career.

Darnold was 1st rounder, 3rd pick in the draft. FYI…..from 1967 to 2010, 86 quarterbacks were drafted in the first round and only 25 made it to the Super Bowl. From 2010 to the present, 39 quarterbacks were drafted in the first round. 4 made it to the Super Bowl and only one of them won one - Mahomes. It’s far more likely that the first round QB is a bust vs a Mahomes.

Don’t make any excuses for Kwesi, he’s bungled his position with Cousins his tactics were rookie level and now he and the Vikings are fully exposed and all teams know they’re desperate for a QB. Absolutely we shouldn’t pay Cousins what Atlanta offered but that’s isn’t the issue. Atlanta should never been in a position to make such an offer and that happened only because Kwesi woefully underestimated Cousins value and now the Vikings are screwed, blued and tattooed. My guess Kwesi will overpay in the draft to move up and he’ll get played again by a team knowing he’s desperate for a QB to develop. Kwesi is an arrogant smart guy who thinks he’s outthinking long time football guys who can read him like a book. This is not going to end well for the Vikings. Bad hire at GM.

Seems like Kwesi wants to give out long term deals and big money to every position but the most important one...the quarterback position. So if he didn't want to pay a lot for Kirk but gives JJ a boatload of money (whatever % of the cap that is), what's the difference? You're still gonna have a hard time getting everyone else paid. Teams that have consistency and stability at the quarterback position have the most success. The Vikings haven’t had the consistency and stability at that Kirk has brought since Tarkenton retired in 1979……which was 44 years ago. All the man wanted was a long term deal. He was gonna take less than his 35 million for a longer term deal last season. But Kwesi wrecked that, too. Let’s not ignore the how bad the Vikings’ defense has been for most of Kirk’s time here and that the Vikings have neglected the o-line for years. Kirk could throw for 350 yards and four touchdowns, almost single-handedly keeping his teammates in a matchup they have no business competing in. But if he dares throw a pick or fumble the ball even once - statistically, a realistic play in any do-or-die situation for any signal caller - his entire effort was for naught. He simply didn’t measure up. It’s reductive, shortsighted and a narrow-minded way of viewing and evaluating quarterbacks. Football is a cohesive team game, after all. But it’s just reality for some. These toxic labels shouldn’t apply to Cousins anymore.

My guess is they sign Darnold as an "experienced" back up, and draft a young QB, if the former starts the season, it's over before it begins. The Vikings franchise is turning into Old Detroit. They won't be able to compete with that roster and will battle the Bears for last in the Division again. Detroit and GB both have good coaches and better QBs than the Vikings and they are younger and more talented. This won't end well, so you all better hope they hit the lottery with a QB in this draft. I bet they do a draft day trade to move up and snatch one of those young guns, if so then it's so long JJ and you better pray to Odin that it pans out. But alas this is a failure of a franchise and history tells me that with this team, they will stay at 11, reach and draft a bust at QB, a la Christian Ponder, not resign JJ and then JJ just walks next year and they get nothing in return.
