Will this actually cut through any materials? (especially metal) or is it only capable of etching the metal?

Another thing, I strongly recommend you to use air assist. It helps getting read of the smoked areas in your projects, and notice your text had staggered lines. In your settings use raster and line to get better definition. Happy hunting!

I just got this laser and installed it today. Testing on basswood for a few hours, I found that 5700mm/min, at 100% power did a great job with raster images and gradient testing.

Have you tried any cutting of thin materials with this laser? (e.g. 3mm wood, 3mm acrylic, cardboard, paper) I am specifically looking for wood and acrylic and what this laser is capable of cutting in one pass (and if it look's acceptable after just one pass or not). Thoughts?

Paw Paw, another great video! Please try and engrave the ceramic tile for us. I have the smaller 4040 machine. I love it! I think that the learning curve for the laser CNC is more difficult than for the CNC routers. Thank you!

Which laser do you prefer, the FoxAlien 40watt or the Sculpfun S9? Is there another laser you would recommend over either of these? I'm just starting to learn about laser cutters so I'm not completely sure what to look for in terms of features. It seems like FoxAlien has a better website with more information/resources, which makes me trust the company a bit more. I also like that they have a full product line, so it seems I could easily convert it into a CNC if I ever wanted to. Though the Sculpfun S9 is cheaper right now. What are your thoughts?

Both are excellent. Yes, FOXAlien has excellent customer service. Price of the Sculpfun is lower then that may be the best direction. There are so many videos available to get you up and running.

As a completely new beginner i bought the Atomstack X7 Pro. It says 50W but the outcome should be between 10-11 W. I am trying to get some settings to start with and i also started with lots of slate coasters and i am satisfied with the outcome. What i really would like to know: Does the Foxalien have real 40W? My coasters do have some greenish cast and not such clear white lines as in the video. This is what i am trying to find out. I calculate in mm/min, so i have to multiply the 80 inch (=25,4 mm) = 2032 mm/min. But what laser power should i set for my Atomstack to get close? thank you and i really love your videos. Your results always look so crispy and sharp. I loooove that

All the diode lasers are basically the same. A 20 watt laser has an output of about 5.0 to 5.5 watts. Therefore when they say it is a 40 watt laser it just has two diode each putting the out the same 5.0 to 5.5 watts thus it equals 10 to 11 watts.

No, even the belts on my XCarve which are over four years old are just fine. I replaced them only because of the upgrade. Inspect often and don’t over tension them

The fan helps but not as much as I had hoped. The smoke actually overwhelmed the little fan. It was designed for soldering iron smoke where it works very well. The glasses are rated for that wavelength. I do not have any way to measure the wavelength

got my 40W for xmas, installed it on my 4040xe, and it will run the first few back and forth and then shuts down and stops. No idea what is going on. it spits out an MPos warning, but im nowhere near any limit switches and have it set to start from current position. any help would be great

I am running the same Foxalien 40w laser on my Masuter Pro. I've been doing some testing in Lightburn 1.2.04 and I changed my GRBL settings as recommended by Lightburn documentation as follows: $30=1000 $32=1. However, I don't think I'm getting full power from my laser. Do you have any experience with these settings on this 40w laser in Lightburn?

I believe it will fit just fin. The tip is .709 dia on the 20 wat and .704 dia on the 40 watt.

Not sure of the settings that you are looking for. When you open Openbuilds or UGS you need to connect to the machine and set the correct baud rate. Don't forget to hit the alarm. Nothing will move until you solve that. I have numerous videos on this entire process. Thanks for watching

Lasers are exiting however, you need to understand a bit more about them. For instances the new laser head you have got is a 120V 40W but the output, or the optical power as it is also known for, is 20W. If you do not understand this you are misleading yourself and others! Keep lasing!
