The funnest part is working on the ground trying to do this, makes it that much more enjoyable, been there done that,lol (many times), i have a 89 and a 91, on my 91 i have had dumps for like 15 years and since installing a new motor a few months ago i decided to do all new exhaust all the way to the back,i got my new H pipe installed but ill be doing the catback here when it cools down a bit,im gonna see if i can get a script for some Xanax before i get started, ha ha ha.

I think that this is one of the best possible setups for this car. It sounds amazing and deep. No weird resonances or rasp, should be great for daily driving but when you stomp on the gas it really does its job :D

Great video! Your comments on the Magnaflow catback are spot on. I installed it on a 91 GT about 2 years ago. It sounds lovely, and is gorgeous, kind of a shame it isn't ever seen once installed. I'll add that your fitment issues likely have nothing to do with the aftermarket exhaust components and all with the catback. My 91 has/had and OEM mid pipe and manifolds and I had a ton of trouble installing it. I didn't have a lift so installing it on jack stands was so aggravating I swore off doing anymore exhaust work on the car lol. I had to take it to an exhaust shop to get it aligned properly. I don't regret buying it but I suggest to anyone interested just to have an exhaust shop install it. Especially if you don't have access to a lift and welder.

Yeah it’s crazy hey!? I’ve never heard anyone speak about the issues surrounding fitment with these but since mentioning it to folks now, Ive yet to run into a single person that has had a magnaflow cat back that didn’t run into the same issues 🤷‍♂️

Watching your video brings back memories...maybe a nightmare or two as well! Did my exhaust some 9 years ago and encountered some problems as well, in the end, with patience and perseverance, all things lined up and looked great and sounded even better. I wish I had kept the original system...as my '87 has been in storage pretty much since I did the exhaust all those years ago. I fear i am going to need to find some used catalytic converters in order to pass inspection. Lesson learned...never through anything away!! Great video, keep'em coming!

I recently did a flowmaster cat back system on my ‘93 LX. I had more of an issue with the passenger side lining up properly. My passenger side muffler actually hangs with a slight side to side lean to get everything to clear. But all is well and sounds/looks amazing. Btw, did mine on the ground. Fun.

I started with the headers too..and I was surprised that all the bolts came out with out a problem... The only bolt that was an issue was the dip-stick hanger bolt/nut. I did mine in steeps. Flow Master T-304 stainless steel American Thunder and BBK ceramic shorty header BBK H-pipe. I had Ford racing headed first but the rusted in one season..There was special description for auto and manual transmissions. Mine is an automatic trans..lots of clearance..My tail pipes up over the axel and out the rear bumper were not sealing correctly.. I don't know why but they actually go into the outlet side of the muffler instead of around it. I had to cut 2 inch slots down the sides of each outlet pipe so they could "crush " down around the tail pipe..I also wrapped the down piped from the headers to the H-pipe with DEI heat wrap , I used 3 inch hose clamps to keep them in place.love your garage...

I am going to do a video shortly of the full blown stock exhaust sound clip vs, the full header back aftermarket magnaflow catback system so folks can have a nice reference piece when going down this road. Exhaust is such a tough decision because you really don’t know how your car is going to sound until you put in all the work/$$$…

@@KASLCustoms Exhaust is definitely a hard choice when it comes to making the car personalized. I have a 1989 coupe that I would like to give it a more muscular tone. Not too loud but just letting you know it’s alive. My dilemma is that my 5.0 LX coupe only has 27.000 km and has collector plates. Apparently stainless steel exhaust is ok to install 😉. I hate to start modifying this unit and then it ends up lowering its value. But that being said it still has no grrrrrr factor when going down the road. Thanks for all your time and efforts on your clips. Looking forward to the comparison of the exhaust systems and how much they differ. Cheers!

Just noticed at 11:13 that your oil dip stick tube isn't seated completely. The reason I noticed that is I had a tough time getting mine in thru my headers as well. Great videos by the way, lots of good info.

When the Magnaflows break in they will sound a lot better. I was happy I went with them over flowmaster. Just a higher quality muffler and system.

Sounds good! And based on the personality of the car it sounds like it should. That muffler hanger system is weird. Not sure why they felt the need for additional hangers (which look more horizontal than hanging vertically) but maybe it’s because of the added weight of the full stainless steel system they felt the single hanger wasn’t up for it long term. Glad to hear you mention going back and checking the header bolts after some heat cycles. So many people get blown out gaskets shortly after a header install and blame the supplied gaskets but had they checked the bolts a few times over the week following the install they probably would have avoided the failed gaskets. I check 4-5 times and find it takes about that many before you get them all to stay tight. Same goes for those Stage 8 locking header bolts. Leave all those locks off until you do some heat cycles and re-tightens before installing them or you’ll be taking them off (pain in the ass) to tighten.

Nice! I just put up a fight with mine too. I just put Holley's Flow Monsters on my 88, and used the existing 2.5" mandrel tails. It just has to be "good enough" because there is not perfection with the way they were bent.

The 91 convertible I just picked up has Shorty headers on it with the stock catalytic converter’s and magna flow mufflers. I’m not digging the sound, thinking of going with the flow masters super 44s with the dumps.

One of the reasons to get rid of those stock coffee can high amp drawin turd ass starters. Go to the 92/93 high torque mini starters. Much better clearance and more efficient. Beautiful car!

It's a convertible so it must be twisted which is why it's causing you all the problems! LOL. That muffler being cocked out like that would drive my OCD Symmetry nuts. That bracket with the hanger needs to be tweaked or maybe re-done. By chance did you try the factory hanger to see how it lined up? I am genuinely curious if maybe the way you had to get the H-Pipe on if you moved things 1/16 of an inch off up front it would translate to 1/2" by the time you got to the back? I'm sure you'll get it sorted and I feel your pains. Imagine now you had an LX or Cobra bumper and you needed to make sure that the tips were 100% symmetrical LOL. Sounds great regardless! Go Verts!

Do you believe the stock muffler hanger would secure the muffler instead of the Magnaflow double hanger? I'm curious if the stock hanger would be to short. It seems as if the double hanger piece is what creates the pain, and I'm currently dealing with the same pain as you trying to install mine. I'll be using the tips and securing the tailpipes at the back. For me the hanger on the tailpipe directly after the muffler seems overkill since mine will be secured at the tip. I can understand the need for the double hanger near the muffler on the GT since the tips are not secured/supported near the back. I'm curious if I should keep the oem muffler hanger would work or be too short based on your experience with the install. Great video BTW!

Hey bud! Thx for reaching out. In my experience, the one side (muffler side) of the magnaflow hanger is in the exact same spot as the stock location so I can’t see any issue with using the stock hanger instead. Also, I did use the tailpipe hanger and the rear of the car when I installed my GT style dump tips

Question, For a GT, any performance difference between a downturn or a straight through pipe aka LX? My buddy has a GT but he wants to have a straight through exhaust through the rear bumper becuz gainz! . I told him not to, because it looks better and way clean and will warp/damage the bumper cover and no gainz, but, he is completely resisting to my idea of keeping it turn down exhaust pipe. I will cry (not really) if I see holes cut out in the rear bumper cover. Also any point of honing/smoothing out the stock headers? I also see the T/A getting worked on..Nice!

Hey buddy. As for “gains,” there would literally be zero from changing the tips. There was a fella that mentioned he worked over/hogged out his stock headers and estimated that he opened them up by about 30-40%. For the price you pay for new headers vs. The time you would put into opening up the stock ones, I would say you’d be further ahead buying new... 🤷‍♂️ Hope that helps!
