What many people of Tacoma knew was that Harold Lemay shared his passion yearly by inviting friends and friends of friends to drive his cars on special days of the year. How many museums would ever let the average car lover drive their cars. None that I know of. He was a very unique man with a passion for cars. I lived in Tacoma and often went to his small Spanaway shop and watched some of the restoration on a few cars. I would look at the cars stored in the yard and say, "If I had that one or that one" I would do this or that to it. I doubt that there will ever be such a generous or happy man that wants to share his passion of saving cars ever again. To Harold's family, "Thanks for trying to preserve the passion and the collection". :) :)

I learned a long time ago when I owned 38 cars, you don't own them, they own you. I cannot fathom 3,000. I met some people from this group at Irwindale raceway quite a few years ago when they were showing the model of the museum and had a nice talk about some cars, but I had no idea they had that many cars.The logistics of that many cars is a massive undertaking.

300 cars not 3,000
@1allanbmw5 жыл бұрын
@@davidjoles9737 Yeah... it WAS 3000 before they sold some off for the museum, and then split up more for one SHARED museum, and now this more manageable museum which is NOT shared.

B.S.! Museums are where cars go to DIE. A car that doesn't/can't/isn't driven...isn't really a car anymore, just like a plane that doesn't fly, or a boat that's not seaworthy. Keep 'em running!

The collection at Marymount is probably my favorite car museum. I'm not sure I would even call it a museum since these cars are mostly in a non restored, daily driver condition. To me it gives them more character. The tour guides have a story about every car in there. Just amazing.

Well, I'm sure others have said a museum which I totally agree. Also, you could pick one car every day and charge people to drive them around in it. Each day, different car and make a schedule ahead of time. Also, you could drive people in a wedding, the married couple. Plenty of ways to make money, but I'm sure it's easier said than done. I'm sure some people in the family are tired of it though. I just hope that if they sell it or already have sold it that they picked someone who would buy the whole lot and keep it going. That's a lot of amazing work that man put in and what a cool thing to inherit!

lots of people do that about passed loved ones possessions, they don't want to " dishonor" their dead loved one by getting rid of stuff. But I'm Christian, I think people go to better place and get better stuff and they couldn't care less about the stuff they left behind. Watching American Pickers once a woman was joking about her husband and his massive collection, I couldn't agree with her more, she said " yup the funeral will be at 11AM and the Auction starts at 1:00" That's the right idea.

Personally, while I think everyone should get to see these cars, I think every one of them should be driven, not just sitting in a museum static display. After all, that's what they were meant to do, not just sit I know from experience that just sitting for long periods of time is actually harder on cars than being driven moderately. Of course, with these very rare pieces, you would not want to drive them on public streets, but seems to me at least at the second museum having a safe place to drive them is not a major issue.
