Not auto or life, although life can have inconvenient hurdles. I'm continually amazed how people are surprised that their homeowner's insurance goes up when the value of their home went up 40-70% in 5 years. Health insurance is broken because it isn't insurance, it's become merely a 3rd party payment system, from open heart surgery and cancer (insurance) to an ingrown toenail and a common cold checkup (what the hell?) which would be out of pocket and inexpensive if not covered by health 'insurance.' Health insurance is akin to if auto insurance paid for new tires, new windshield wipers, a new transmission when it goes out, etc. All of a sudden that $200 a month auto insurance would be $1000 because it covers everything.
@EvilMonkey7818Күн бұрын
When insurance enters the picture and is expected to pay for everything it gets expensive. My mother worked for a dentist for a couple of decades who didn't want to take dental insurance. He kept prices cheap but over time he had no choice since everyone else was taking insurance and more and more of his clients were skipping out on paying him. He had to hire staff just to process insurance, and of course that staff wanted benefits themselves like health insurance. Ideally things like dental insurance would only cover expensive procedures and cleanings would be like $60 out of pocket, but the public wants insurance to cover everything.
@EvilMonkey7818Күн бұрын
Part of the problem with health insurance in the US is it's so heavily attached to employment, and heavily subsidized by employers. That damps competition among insurers, prevents more insurance companies from forming, and holds down raises for employees. Some companies keep most of their lower wage employees at under 29 hours a week so they don't have to give them health insurance. Those employees have to have two jobs. The more the govt gets involved the worse insurance gets.

That's the whole point of a business. People invest, take a risk and hope to make a profit. Insurers have been pulling out of California in droves due to mismanagement by the administration. Stop blaming people for acting rationally in the face of inept "leadership".

Insurance is the oldest ponzi scheme in existence. All insurance companies take in way more money than they ever pay out in claims.
@marylaczko6539Күн бұрын
The point of insurance is to insure profits for insurance companies. If they are giving out more money than they are taking in,its not viable for them.Bottom line is that folks should not be living in unsafe areas, or we will all pay the difference.L.A. is the perfect example. It has NO water other than what it steals from the colorado river. Its a desert. The natural vegetation is a type of pine that only seeds when it burns. The area is inhabitable,totally fake,no one should ever build or live there. Folks think that if they have money they can outsmart nature. Well surprize . If they rebuild there, they are even stupider.

People that chose to build in natural disaster zones their insurance should be much more expensive. That's happened here in Australia, insurance where natural disasters had been there insurance is staggering. From around $2000 per annum they are now paying up to $30,000 per annum.
