I work in a food manufacturing facility (not to be named). When I started 22 years ago there was almost 450 production workers and a lot of manual labor in almost all aspects. I was hired because of my automation and robotics background. By my second year we had one production line practically fully automated. From about 10-15 workers to now four. Today we are about 150 or less across three shifts five to six days a week. We are moving product at an amazing rate out the door. Nine production line fully automated by the team. There were many meetings, concepts, measuring, mock ups, test after test, pushing the equipment to its max speed and beyond. Fried servos, jammed conveyors, overheated motors, oil spills and lots of wasted products for testing was the norm. I remember one day I was threatened by a production worker for eliminating jobs. I said this was what I was hired for and the other were for the same reason. We’re just doing our job. Then I told him to get trained as an operator and you won’t lose your job. He took my advice and is now one of the top operators we have and we became close friends

Allow the workers to buy equity in the automation systems and then they get to work fewer hours while receiving dividend checks from the automation productivity. Capitalism is still the best socio-economic model to have existed. However if we don't get creative and allow capitalism to bend; it will break.

What am I to do!". Dude you've complained your whole life about the burdens of 9 to 5. How about you watch your kids grow up? Do something other than the laundry with the wife. Yes, universal income.
