The tarrifs on Canada are so opportunistic, our leadership is weak and grasping on power. Election are months if not weeks away, our government is frozen in place since Trudeau stepped down. As a Canadian, this is something that will cost all consumers, Canadian and US. I don't disagree with the leverage to get the borders secure, but we are in the middle of trying to get a new government that would be in strong alignment with the US. Our current government is as bad as Biden's was, so we pray that we can make this happen ASAP. Thank you America for giving us the hope that we can do in Canada what is now being done in the US. Getting rid of the Green Agenda and the reckless spending that has destroyed our economy... to be transformed into a faithful & trusted partner.

Agreed. It isn't possible to keep the largest undefended border in the world unless both countries align on key immigration issues (including tourists who enter one of those countries with the intent to cross the border illegally). I think it would be easy to find middle ground on this point as, I believe, most Canadians think this is a good idea too.

The problem with these comments are primarily the ignorance with regard to miss understanding how are countries live and support their citizens. We both have international obligations as well as internal well fare conditions and concerns, we have always stood by each other’s side with the understanding of each other’s boundaries and solidarity. We have always been the greatest of teammates no matter of the price when it comes to futile warfare and most importantly we share a common passion of protecting the people and environment of the lands we occupy which in my opinion means that we have a strong commitment to each other as well as an obligation to be strong and visionary with respect to our current environment. The fact of the matter is nobody wins unless everybody wins.

The US is not protecting Canada. That is a complete fabrication by Trump. There are zero US military bases in Canada. There are 164 US servicemen stationed in Canada. Look it up. Those must be some fantastic soldiers if that number protects Canada from invasion. The only other argument you could have is NORAD which is a joint US and Canada collaborative military effort HQ in Colorado. That however protects America and in reality Canadians are contributing to protecting America through NORAD.

The problem is who pays the tariffs? Surely it's the importers, not the Exporters. Tariffs will force American businesses to produce in the US because Tariffs will take away the profit they make from cheap labour, the problem is can they find Americans who do the jobs? Is Trump going to force people to take on those jobs? Trump is doing all this to save the Dollar reserve status, All those Billioniers behind him also are in it for the same reason because all their wealth is tied to the Dollar.

So sad to see the great Larry Kudlow making excuses for the worst impulses of the Trump administration. A 25% price hike on US consumers will be felt. The products we export to these countries will be tariffed as well, and US companies that export will suffer. Larry, go reread Economics in One Lesson. As Frederic Bastiat himself noted, it’s the poor economist that looks only at the obvious. 😔

I was confused about tariffs. But i looked it up.... Arent we the consumer, going to be the one who pays for the tariffs? The 10% or 25% tarrif on mexico means the importer hs to pay the tax. Doesnt this hurt the citizens of both america and mexico? These tarrifs will be sdded to the price of our goods... Correct? And i understand, this encourages people to buy american... But we dont produce everything.

When China was hit with a 25% tariff, they lowered their pricing and absorbed the differential costs. In addition, other countries supplied products China was providing. It reduced Chinese output by 7 percent overnight. It increased the value of the dollar, lowered unemployment in America, and encouraged less business in China and more business in America. Those tariffs still exist today, and the exact same arguments of how the US economy would fail were made then. The US economy is the most powerful in world history and is not something that other countries can simply ignore. They either have to adjust economically or conform to the requirements set by the United States to continue trading with what is often their largest trading partner. In the meantime, Inflation reduces, the American dollar increases in value, American companies prosper domestically, and American buying power increases as a direct result. The cost of Tariffs in the short term is minimal, if any, while in the long term, becomes a phenomenal investment for Americans.

This will force American businesses to produce in the US because the profit they make from cheap labour overseas will be taken by the tariffs, the problem is can they find Americans to do the jobs? they can stop importing to the US altogether and export to other countries. Trump is shooting himself in the foot ignoring the fact right now trade is global.

You do not understand what has been going on for a long, long time. Our own corporations bailed on America and used cheap slave labor from a Communist country to make big profit making goods (that we once made) that they sell back to Americans. The CCP treats its own people like slaves and Nike and the CCP made billions using those slaves and selling their goods to Americans. We lost manufacturing jobs. Instead of producing things, our role became consumer. Consumer. And we take drugs. Feel lost, etc. This has caught up with us. Both parties--Dems. and Repubs. are responsible for this because I'm guessing that our corporations had a lot of influence over Congress. I feel impatience with you for acting so childish.
