Look, I get you, but hear me out. Prime Smith was basically unstoppable while Punter wasn't. In fact, his worst record in tests was against India. Comparing eras is not ok. Comparing Sachin to Gavaskar is not ok and in the same way, comparing Kohli to Sachin is not ok. They were playing in completely different batting conditions overall. Players who played in 1990s or 2000s (all the legends who will walk into all time playing 11 any day) will tell you that their era was the hardest for batsman in general… super fast bowling, no advanced machines to train batsman on super fast bowling, no two new balls vs one, no DRS, no super thick bats etc etc.. I’d say it’s fair to let go the comparison of eras… compare a kohli to Babar or someone else and Sachin to someone in his era like a Ponting or Lara ..the same would be told about the previous generation as well.. no helmets.. body line bowling and insane fast bowling from WI quicks…better to leave eras lone..

Every person who has watched cricket through the 80s, 90s and 2000's knows that there's absolutely no comparison with Ponting, Tendulkar and McGrath, clearly because they played at a time where cricket was at its most competitive, there was no IPL/money leagues and there was pure just playing cricket for your country and winning, average scores in a one day math were 200 odd, where's as now that's gone up to 300, imagine even after that the records Sachin and Ponting have? Test matches almost always went the distance (5 days) whereas nowadays you always almost have a result within 3 days. As for the Mcgrath vs Cummins, you've got to be kidding me. Cummins is a good bowler/captain but the kind of accuracy and impact McGrath had for so so so many years is just absolutely unbelievable, can't be compared at ALL... The only player who's still playing who is an absolute GOAT is Steven Smith, the guy is way above Kohli and even Ponting and Tendulkar in terms of the amount of times he's seen Australia home, but sadly because of his cheating past, overall you can't call him better than Sachin or Ponting.

We can, Sachin is better than Kohli, Dhoni is better at keeping while Pant is better with the bat. Ponting is better just because of his longevity and his reliance on technique instead of reflexes.
