I envy you the daily change of scenery when on a narrowboat. After the collision with that hire narrowboat, Otis kept his wits about him, noticed the humans weren't watching, and headed for the treats! Clever puppy. Thanks again for all the incredibly interesting historical tidbits. These are easily the best vlogs on KZbin.

I realized tonight that this is one of the best produced channels on KZbin. It's consistently quality video and sound, the music and cuts just work. Even when a hire boat is speeding around a corner, giving you a punt. PS: Knew I forgot something. In the early 50's, Coventry Climax got a contract to build a lightweight engine for fire pumps, which also turned out to be a pretty good little motor for racing cars. John Cooper adapted a 1.5 liter Climax in an F2 car, which eventually became a 2.5 liter F1 engine, winning the world championship two times in a row for Jack Brabham. In 1961, the rules were changed to 1.5 liter F1 engines, and suddenly there was a boom with British racing cars like Cooper, Lotus and Lola being powered by Climax's little powerhouses. But by the mid-sixties, Coventry Climax's management decided the cost of making engines for racing was too much. The company was purchased by Jaguar, eventually merged into British Leyland, going through a series of owners before disappearing in the early nineties. And one more thing: If you ever get a chance to look at a Coventry Climax racing engine, you'll notice a medallion on the camshaft cover. Yes, it's Lady Godiva herself, on her horse. And now I've told you far more than you ever wanted to know about an engine with a funny name
@FoxesAfloat3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Arthur. Just noticed the medallion too. Well spotted 👍🏻
@rjmun5803 жыл бұрын
The late unlamented Hillman Imp had a Coventry Climax engine which I believe was based on the fire pump model. They were the most unreliable car I've ever owned but at least they were easy to repair and every scrap yard had lots of spares.

I have been to Bovington Tank Musuem. Was on a Shearings hol in Bournemouth. I wanted to get myself to Monkey World and a chap wanted that tank musuem. As they were just over the road from each other we both went to investigate. The chap came to Monkey World and in the afternoon I went with him to Bovington Tank Musuem. Was dreading that. Wow I really enjoyed it. We were so lucky. They told us a Tiger 131 was comming out the building on route to their MOT bit. Gosh it was fantastic to see it get moving. Their was only 5 of us to watch learnt a hell of a lot. A brill afternoon spent in there.

Hi Colin /Shaun. We watch your blog every Friday evening religiously even this last week whilst on our annual narrowboat holiday which we have done for the last twelve years. This year we passed through Crick, Husbands Bosworth and Braunston tunnels; I believe three of the longest tunnels on the network. Colin with your historical interest and research skills could you do a feature on how these tunnels were built? I would also be interested to learn about just how the canals themselves were also built. Where does the water come from in the first place to fill the system and to maintain the water level with all the water movement through the locks. I recently heard that a lock had to be closed as the bottom had collapsed into a void, I’d just assumed the bottom was mud but this was described as being timber? Cheers Kevin & Di Annual canal boat holiday makers.

I have visited Coventry on different trips to England, and found the history of the area fascinating, especially the facts surrounding Coventry Cathedral. Can’t say why, but found it quite emotional. Beautiful boat and beautifully filmed! Best to both of you ❤️.

Great entertainment guys, fantastic scenery and knowledge of the areas you visit. Thanks for sharing. Otis is looking very demure, but I'm sure he's a little tyke.
