@@foxfamilyhvac great video sir! Just a quick question, if there's no liquid line service valve how do I measure superheat?

The way I was trained was to verify Airflow (filters, coils, fans, obstructions) then Electronics (motors, capacitors, controls) before ever putting gauges on. In 10yrs residential and light commercial I've found far more bad customers than bad TXVs. This is a great video, thank you.

whats a "bad customer"

Actually with the 2007 regulations. Systems did not get more efficient with txv's. Its was because the suface area on the evap and condensor coils got bigger to absorb and reject more heat and humidity. Goodman proved this while staying with a piston metering device.

Great explanation! As a first year tech, I can't tell you how helpful this is to grasp the concepts of refrigeration. The illustrations we're especially helpful.

I had a TXV diagnosed some years ago and they asked me for a glass of ice water. At the time I didn't know it was for the diag process but learned a minute later. He correctly called for the TXV. And yes, the system did perform somewhat better while the part was on order. Thing is, I kept the system operating right on the knee between function and failure by resting it periodically when it began to faulter so when he got here it was a no brainer compared to what it might have been. In other words, I did not let the compressor go thermal but the temps/pressures were still off so he could see in a snap what was up. Thanks for another nice tight discussion.

I use the field piece smans. When talking to other techs about my pressures I always give them both pressures and temps

That's great, and then if they ask you what refrigerant you're dealing with you just learned something about the tech you're talking to.😂🤣😋😎

Excellent video, my installer wants to replace my TXV for the second time ( replaced with a piston while txv was ordered) on a 2 year newly installed SEER 16 Goodman Heat Pump. My temp is set on 77 degree but runs for 25 min on and 5 min off to do the job, this doesn't sound right. I need a good A/C tech in SW Florida.

With a heat exchange unit also can you cycle from heat to cool to see if the valve frees up? Would this damage anything doing this when the ambient temperature is in the high 90,'s to low 100..?

Hello, why does every CARRIER i put in (litterally 10 outta 10). always have 18-20 superheat and low liquid line pressure. Even with 13 subcool. Each install i spend like 3 days checking back and stuff. And I follow manufacturer installation religiously.
@xincai951 Жыл бұрын
Have you figured out why? Do you need to adjust the txv?
@seek3n Жыл бұрын
@xincai951 no. They dont come with adjustable txv. I have to over size the coil at least half ton or slow down the fan 😅

When looking for txv everyone says to look at evap core but on york they are in the heat pump. Should I use super heat or subcool? Thanks!
@robertcherry49712 жыл бұрын
There should be one TXV at the condenser and another TXV at the evaporator on a Heat pump.

oat, iat, sst, lst, sh, sc. KZbin makes the jokes with that flow chart. Tesp & use the dumb chart in the manufacturer install manual to (don't worry the installers chucked it in the trash for you) guesstimate your airflow.
