Foxfield Railway - Summer Steam Gala 2019

The Foxfield Railway held their Summer Steam gala over the weekend of July 20th and 21st. The scenes in the video of trains working hard on Foxfield bank were filmed on the Sunday of the gala. Visiting locomotive from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway was Andrew Barclay No.1245 'Carron' which joined the home fleet of Austerities 'Wimblebury' and 'Whiston', Beyer Peacock 0-4-0ST No. 1827 and the Dubs crane tank

I used to love going to this event Austin, and thank goodness, I can rely on you and your excellent coverage to enjoy these days. The Black loco seen in the first clip, was by far the best performing on the day.

Excellent video of the action at Foxfield mate 👍😉 That was a very impressive gala event the railway has put on and it was great to see Barclay 0-6-0 tank in action there.

@@acw71000 Yes it is a shame, but cost of coal and the dreaded Health and Safety cut in these things I suppose. I joined Foxfield in 1967 I have some great times and seen it change over the years it’s still one of the best places to see steam working hard up an incline 👍

Just the place to have a picnic, but not to close to be showered with smuts and red hot cinders, to watch the gallant little tanks pass. And, in between 7:53 - 7:58 the grass fire! All part of the fun. Did the volunteer staff beat it out with their shovels and dowse it with water, or do they have a dedicated fire team, or do they have an obliging Fire Brigade? Brings back my footplate memories of the W&L and Golfa years ago, before the advent of these Hi tec blast pipes. They do work very well. Thank you so much Sir for the video. del.

Thanks very much. I did get covered with smuts for the first shot, you can see them falling! The fire team came up shortly after the train had passed and used their beaters to get the fire out. It's amazing how quickly a fire can take hold and you can see the damage it can cause on the 'big railway'

Super video indeed. prompts the question (regarding hard working locos) are those trucks "loaded" with ballast/whatever to give a better simulation of working conditions. please?

The Foxfield Railway is one of the heritage railways that makes children's hearts beat faster. Especially charming the mutually helping steam locos. Including the unique one with the crane. - Heinz

@@acw71000 Any idea why they dont, Reminds me of my time at Shirebrook depot when we used 2 08s trying to climb out of Clipstone colliery with loaded on, plus a foot of slurry over the lorry crossing interesting times in the 70s sadly no more.

I guess since the pandemic and increases in the price of coal etc. it's become too expensive to put on a big gala with several locos.
