Delighted to see this video. I use the same set up for sending quick data messages . With a magmount on the roof connected to the Baoufeng I have got 18 miles

Thanks for the "we gonna" video. The 888s have an apparent "fox hunting" mode. Cycles the transmitter on and off. 30% duty cycle. Put your phone next to the radio for a signal. Start with Ch 12 / hold down top side button and PTT, both, and turn on. No Vox. Hook up another antenna, amplifier, go nuts...Ten bucks. Cycles for about five hours. Extra batteries are cheap, too. Or use the cradle. You got ripped on that cable. I have been warned. Or, try a Surecom 112. Fifty dollars. Might be more listener friendly, as well.

Thanks for the video - are you going to make a video on using the Baofeng to do the fox hunt? I heard we need a signal meter and the Baofeng doesn't have it, is it true? please share... thanks. Anthony - KJ7OJE

This is all new to me, but I’ll definitely post videos of every step of the journey. I’ve read a lot of conjecture about the UV-5R and the meter capabilities, but I’ve not seen much that seems definitive. My goal is document the use of a UV-5R with an offset attenuator, step attenuator, yagi and loop antennas. I’ll be sure to cover the Chirp squelch settings too... stay tuned! More coming very soon.

Most Baofeng displays of recent vintage have active (albeit small) signal meters.

That cable could be used to make a simple repeater couldn't?

Looks like the Surecom SR-112 controller cable. 50 bucks for the whole kit. Any ctss tone will keep it open. Good eye, but his has another component.

Well, I was going to use an Arduino to communicate via my radio using CW, now I'm afraid I'm going to be switching gears and going with an Arduino, an Adafruit Soundboard and this concept using digital voice.

There are many ways to accomplish this task, and I'm a fan of trying them all! Best of luck. (P.S. Enjoying your blacksmithing videos. I busted my shoulder soon after getting my forge set up. It will probably be another 6 months to a year before I can swing a hammer again.)

@@transmittinguntilrobotsrep1045 Glad you enjoyed them and hope you get better. I have my Arduino/Adafruit/Baofeng UV5R now doing CW or Voice.
