Vintage kart New Castle NCMP - Most Powerful Sprint Karts - Heat 2

NCMP Vintage Karting event held June 2010. This is the 2nd heat race in C-Open Sidewinder. These are the fastest & most powerful Sprint Karts ever raced in the USA, nothing in modern Sprint Karting approaches this power. Competitors run dual rotary valve 2-stroke engines ranging from 135 to 150cc each, and up to 90hp total. Most are running dual IAME B-Bombs or BM-130 engines that were produced mostly back in the 1970's. Kart Chassis' are usually Margay ProX, Margay Expert, or Invader Duals. Only highly experienced drivers are allowed to drive these karts. Regular participants in this class include notable names from NASCAR, Indy, and karting's past like: Lake Speed, Terry Traeder, Troy Brown, Jeff Brown, Butch Stewart ... This is Helmet Cam video on-board Jeff Campbell's Margay Expert with dual BM-130 rotary valve motors, the clutches start to fail on the 2nd race lap, providing a nice rear view of all the class competitors as they roll by one by one!

Good to watch myself racing again after 30 years away! Slow in the corners and finished a respectable 3rd (yellow and black jacket) after 6 laps. Cool!

@kartracer58 - this kart is set up as typically seen back in the 70's era, at the pedal, a clevis attaches there with a 1/4" rod. At the other end of that rod is a block which receives 2 ball end throttle cables .. each cable runs back to one engine. Synchronization is done by an adjustment at each engine carb, and some stiff flexibility at the carb cable mounting is used to absorb over-stress if one carb opens slightly ahead of the other. Its all pretty simple actually.

@kartracer58 - even cooler is the sound of an open header dual cylinder vintage engine, look through my other videos for a twin cylinder water cooled Konig 250cc power kart (circa 1959), the harmonics are awesome.

It's hard to tell from a video how fast they are accelerating, and, the acceleration is silky smooth and continuous, unlike vehicles with a transmission Also the sound of the two independent engines/clutches is unlike anything else.

ive got a question. How do you have the throttle connect to each carb? Do you just have two separate cables on the pedal or is it split somewhere?

This video would be awesome if this guy knew how to drive. He is braking far to early. He is obviously afraid of the power.
