A suspect is dead after a standoff on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim lasted several hours. The aftermath has caused a traffic nightmare ahead of Memorial Day Weekend.

So true! Some years ago I was driving down to Mexico on Thanksgiving Day and thought it would be smart to avoid the guaranteed gridlock on the I-5 between San Clemente and San Diego and take take the 91 to the 15. It took close to 4 hours to get through that fairly short corridor from Anaheim to Corona. I listened to the entire Dallas Cowboys game along this stretch which is maybe around 20 miles? -- and still needed more time to get to Corona. I was going out of my mind and would be hours late for the Thanksgiving Dinner a friend and his family had invited me to in Baja. I don't know how the drivers caught in today's mess who were interviewed by the reporter could maintain smiles and good cheer. I should have already known that getting on the 91 freeway on this stretch has NEVER a smart idea!

They should have cars get off at the first exit before the accident and/or direct traffic around it. They need police to handle the traffic right away. I was in Florida, there was a 5 car accident. The Police stopped the flow of traffic by getting cars off at an exit, then managed to get the others waiting in one lane to go around the accident, it ran much smoother.
