I felt Rob didn't do enough. The first thing Doug said is the owners wanted to win, that is a bold face lie when you look at all of the players who are not playing for non-football reasons who did not break the law or NFL rules. Marquette King, Kaepernick, Eric Reid, Michael Sam, Junior Galette, even Terrell Owens his last year in the league he had 1000 yards receiving but teams just stopped calling him. Owens never broke any NFL rules. So you can't say they only care about winning. The NFL owners sign players and hire the coaches who THEY WANT to sign and hire. That's the business.

@@soda8736You're right but when they're a winner and you hire guys that hasn't won over them it really makes you wonder if race plays a role. Kliff Kingsbury should've never gotten a HC job with his record no matter who he knows. He was terrible at Texas Tech and they kept him too long because he played there. Then you see guys that have failed as a HC over and over get chance after chance. Or worse, Jeff Saturday with no coaching experience on the college or pro level period get a shot. Me or you could've done what Saturday did for the Colts, he was that terrible.

Judge was awful and it's very very rare that a special teams coach is qualified to be a head coach. Harbaugh is the only one that you can think of that's been good at it. But he's smart enough to know he needs great coordinators around him. Just hired back to back national champion OC Todd Monken as the new OC. You needed a guy that could coach any style QB just in case Lamar isn't coming back. In the last few years he's coached Jake Fromm and Stetson Bennett who are different kinda QBs. Fromm is a traditional pocket while Bennett is a smaller dual threat.

He said Kingsbury was terrible in college with a losing record but still got a NFL job. Doug said well Saban etc all sucked in the nfl ?? Ok that wasn’t his point. Lost a ton of respect for Doug on this. He clearly know that race is HUGE issue in the NFL. The freakin league is aware of this. Nagy, Peterson didn’t called plays. Zac Taylor didn’t call plays under McVay. EB interviewed 16 times. If these teams believe the narrative about being divisive the why interview him? 16 times? Jets twice!!! Seven coaches who got jobs over EB got fired within two years. The Rooney Rule is a freakin joke … it’s performative. 20 years ago it was a symbolic first step at an ATTEMPT to try level playing field. Now it’s ridiculous. Those same GMs brought EB in to merely satisfy the Rooney Rule… NOT to seriously consider a candidate of color. EB has been on this staff for 10 years. If you believe DG race is laughable yet his argument doesn’t hold water. For people of color, particularly in sports, it is not a meritocracy. It’s who you know and marketing. EB had five AFC West title, 3 AFC Championships and 2 SB rings. If you are rewarding based on achievements no one, particularly coordinators, comes close. You can’t keep moving the goalposts, as it were, to fit a BS narrative. He doesn’t call plays? Well, clearly that doesn’t matter. He’s divisive? Hmmm I see many current and former players who seem to disagree. No vision? The 7 coaches you chose over him you fired so what does that even mean? No one knows what he does? So you mean to tell me that Andy Reid, first ballot HOFer, winning coach in two organizations with an amazing career record and coaching tree would hire a guy keep him on for 10 years and not define his role? Keep him there just because? You are reaching. It’s BS that he had to take two steps back to believe he could leap forward when he’s achieved so much. The one point he made the nukes his BS arguments across the board is this: Matt Nagy. Nagy got a job coaching in Chicago and lost it after 3 seasons. He comes back to KC as QB coach. It is widely believed he will be the next OC, but the Chiefs have to interview minority candidates… hmmm. Chiefs will name him anyway. Doug then said “He’s a head coach in waiting!” Based on what, Doug? If Andy retires, EB could come back an interview but yea… you are probably right. I thought maybe just maybe the light bulb would go on… you were so close! That is the issue. The ignorance of this only makes it worse.

I appreciate real arguments about this topic with evidence rather then speculation. The problem is that for Doug- this is a no-win situation. Even if he is right about EB and it is reflective of what GM’s think, it will still be called racist. Other than changing the outcome of racial hiring in the league, to be more “equitable” there is no suitable excuse to not hire a qualified black candidate. If you didn’t like him or his philosophy- you are racist. If you like someone else better, you are racist. If you had a closer relationship with another candidate you are racist. @benjaminberman6200
@benjaminberman6200 Жыл бұрын
@@kylecorbin342 there’s no “code” here. This is not a “no-win” situation for the owners or any other alleged “racists” but a no-win situation for those arguing that race isn’t a deciding factor in hiring, such that capable and qualified black coaches are passed over, and had they been white- they would have gotten the job. What inevitably happens is that if and when someone mentions a coach who is black and wasn’t hired, the argument to refute must and will inevitably explain why that candidate wasn’t chosen including pointing out some negatives about him or a quality that is lacking. When you do that- then you just look like you are “dumping” on the minority in defense of “whiteness” because of implicit bias etc. So what can you do? you have to say he’s a great candidate and a great person, but the owner or GM prefers someone he knows or worked with before… That argument leads nowhere good, because then you are talking about the mythical “good ole boys club” and how it must be that Black Coaches make white owners less comfortable. So what can you do if you truly don’t think there’s enough evidence to prove racism is the reason why candidates are passed over? DG says that if you believe that a failed college career should bar one from obtaining a NFL job, it means that you should also believe that a successful college career will ensure a successful NFL career. But that inference is invalid. It’s like saying that because I believe that a failed drug test, means that I’ll fail to get the job, I also have to believe that a successful drug test, means I’ll be successful at getting the job. No one thinks that, and no one has to think that. Pure fallacy. Actually, what most ppl believe is that a successful college career isn’t necessary to success at the NFL level, but a failed one should spell doom for trying to get an NFL gig. But even if ppl believe that, it doesn’t mean that they also believe that those who are really successful coaching college, will find similar success at the NFL level. The problem is, racist white men like to write the script on what is racist to them. Not hiring qualified diversity but having a stance that you’ve never called a black person an N-word doesn’t not make you racist.

@douggottlieb buddy at 19:17 mark you said no one is asking the owners and GMs why they selected who they selected. That is the only thing you said here that made any sense at all. And you are right in that one point. And that is the number 1 problem with hiring. Why? Perfect example, last year the Broncos hired Hackett over Eric Bieniemy which implies that they believed Hackett did better in the interview process and he was more ready to be an NFL head coach. Problem is Hackett embarrassed the Broncos on national TV on Monday Night Football in his very first game with his terrible decision making and clock management. It was so bad that he hired a game management coach. That did not work, and the Broncos fired him before the season even ended it was so bad. The most honest thing the media can do right now is publicly ask the Broncos are they one of the organizations that felt that Eric Bieniemy doesn't "interview well" and if they believe that then what was it in the interview process that they felt Hackett would be a good NFL head coach over Bieniemy? Because the fact is Hackett was not a good NFL head coach, he was in fact one of the worst of all time and didn't even make it through the year. And there are other examples too. Why did the Lions fire Jim Caldwell with a winning record just to hire Matt Patricia who was terrible? Why did the Bears hire Matt Eberflus over Jim Caldwell when Caldwell has a proven track record developing QBs as both a coordinator and HC while Eberflus is a defensive minded coach who had the 19th best defensive in the league as the defensive coordinator of the Colts the year he was hired? Why did the Cardinals hire Jonathan Gannon to be head coach over Eric Bieniemy when his defense was clearly outcoached by Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy especially in the second half of the Super Bowl? These are questions the media is not asking the owners and GMs but they need to start.

Imean but the Broncos might not want to throw Beinemy under the bus , if they felt he was terrible so I doubt they would flat about say that if he was.. As far as Gannon , i mean i think it's pretty clear it's Andy's offense ..

@@soda8736 but that’s the point. If Bieniemy is a terrible interview what does that make Hackett? The guy they hired and then couldn’t wait to fire him. Didn’t even make a full season
