It's the Hall of FAME. I truly believe the Basketball HoF does it the best. Fame! A CELEBRATION OF THE SPORT! For a solid 3-4 year stretch, what NFL player was more FAMOUS than Chad Johnson??? He put up spectacular numbers, and was an icon among the public. People using different metrics and criteria, the most common one I hear is "Could you tell the story of this sport/league without mentioning this player?", and you absolutely cannot tell the story of the late 00s - early 10s without talking about Chad Johnson FOR POSITIVE REASONS. This isn't an Antonio Brown situation which I would classify as infamy (negative connotations) This gate keeping is stupid, and it's just elitism through a different lens. I want to look back at all the highlights of the sport/league, and think "Oh yeah, I remember that guy! He was a monster for 3 or 4 years before be blew out his ACL", or "That guy was great, sucks he was strapped with a terrible franchise!" These Halls are FOR THE FANS! Felix Hernandez for the Mariners was the last pitcher to throw a Perfect Game (officially, sorry Galaraga) in 2012, but never played in a single Playoff game. He won a single Cy Young Award, but never won 20 games in a season (19 once). His career Win% is .554. You can't tell me King Felix shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

@@arch0049 well, the fact that all the guys u listed here r defensive backs, he’d only be able to take 2 or 3 other guys with him for his starting 11 so he would immediately have 2 give criteria for y the others were left off. If u weren’t gonna name names, u should’ve at least stated criteria about y some1 should or shouldn’t be in. To say some1 “changed the game” is sort of relative 2 the average fan that loves football. As great as I think Deion Sanders was as a cornerback (the best that ever played the position in my opinion, and in the conversation for the best overall football player ever) had he remained in Atlanta his entire career, he likely wouldn’t have 2 championship rings 2 show for it, so there’s that. At the end of the day, a few guys r gonna slide through who’s craft u don’t respect. At the same time, there’s guys out there, even at ur position (Lester Hayes) that should be in that didn’t make it. Not sure there’s much u can do about it unless ur willing 2 name drop and/or give criteria.

Rob you have to stop thinking just because you say something that everybody should run with your opinion and live with it and don't ask no questions Rob you're not always right I just want to throw that at you the other thing Steve Smith is a Hall of famer Andre Johnson is a Hall of famer Devin Hester is a Hall of famer and Reggie Wayne is a Hall of famer you're very arrogant Rob and you really need to come off that high horse and then when you get frustrated you don't want to hear nothing because you can be very nasty or mean
@jtrails6942 жыл бұрын
The problem is that there aren't any universal hard requirements to be considered a hall of famer. Also the reason that there isn't is because we can fill the air of radio and daytime TV with "controversy". In my opinion you have to have accolades in any combination of 5 first team all pro, multiple MVPs, multiple DPOYs, multiple season stat leaders, multiple SB mvps, and at least 1 SB win.

Michael Strahan was flat out dominant for a good stretch. He had injury issues a few years in his prime. If you think Strahan was an average player you weren’t watching many Giants games.

There should be two tiers. There are players like Deon who changed the game of football but you also have players like Michael Vick who should be inducted in a lower tier Green Jacket.

What did it was the Speeches. Consumers want to see that emotion pouring out. The tearful thank you’s! The momma stories. The struggles. The memories. It SELLS. NFL knows this. Don’t believe me? Then tell me why they got MR. BAKER (The big guy who’s the face of the HOF) recorded as he’s giving the message to guys like Moss, Cower on and on… It’s all about views. It’s all about VIEWS. Marketing. That’s why there are no 6 a year. It’s a VENUE event now. Just because your overall was higher than 90 in madden don’t mean you a HOFER

Hall of Fame turning into a participation trophy. Haha, to me a hall of famer should of been a top 3-5 player at their position for multiple seasons, for atleast 5-6 seasons. A player that the other team has to game plan for. The bring up Megatron, Calvin Johnson, who never had a chance to play in a big game , never even won a playoff game I believe, but he was a top 3 reciever his entire career, short career compared to most but defenses feared him his entire career. I don't understand the legend selections or whatever they call it when they put in a player from 50 years ago, it's like ok the player wasn't good enough to get in the Hof when he was eligible yet 50 years and not a single extra play later they get in?

I like Rob’s point, the problem is that he’s not consistent. If someone mentioned Eli Manning shouldn’t be a hall of famer. Rob gets in his high horse and disagree. His take for hall of fame, if there’s no debate, your a hall of famer. If there is a debate, your not a hall of famer so it should apply to Eli as well but Rob wouldn’t do that 😂.
