that's the reason i'm thinking Gil is just mad he ain't innit. Representation of the sport matters, and he represented the sport with a pistol, literally. Pau Gasol is a legend and very deservingly is in the naismith hof. edit: by saying that I meant that Gil might've made it as well because individually he's a great player. He had his off the court issues though which HOFers usually are not recognized for. His career then was cut short by injuries, which you could speculate were caused by his liking of the lavish lifestyle and not having to cooldown properly after heavy workouts or games, he prefered the night life is the impression I got as an amateur viewer of the game.

How can they sit there and say Pau Gasol is a selection, also career accolades matter not just NBA stats. He was Spains number one option for atleast half a decade, won olympic gold medals, 3 time Euro League scoring champion. He was also a double double machine for the Lakers. HOF imo definitely.
@antione
@antione Жыл бұрын
You view things as a fan, NBA guys view things as competitors. The NBA being the highest form of competition his stats and accolades pale in comparison to other NBA greats. Sure he’s had international success, but what they are saying is being good in secondary leagues doesn’t mean shit if you couldn’t do it against the best players in the world (NBA) so he should be in the “green HOF” and not with the certified gold members. It’s not a dig it’s just the truth, nowhere in reality does Pau belong in the same conversation with guys like Jordan, Magic, Bird, Russell, Chamberlain, Robertson, Olajuwon, etc.

@@whypascal I know using comprehension is a hard thing to do, so I’ll type slower. We all know he was averaging 18 points in the NBA. That’s cool, but is that HOF worthy? If you say yes, that’s great. Now what Gilbert is saying there should be two different wings for guys who average 18 and guys like MJ. Kobe, etc. Also - “couldn’t do it in the nba” he couldn’t do what he was doing in the Spanish & euro leagues in the NBA otherwise he’d be a multiple time MVP. This is where reading comprehension comes into play. Him dominating in secondarily leagues did not translate to the NBA, he was an above average player during his tenure in the NBA. If he were judged alone for what he did in the NBA he would not have made it, this is the genesis of this entire video.

Yes, but Gil never played D. He'd never admit that was enough. Absolutely, shut down defenders or great defenders who QB great defenses while having big contributions elsewhere should be in. Rodman was a great defender and rebounder. Draymond is an offensive passing hub, QBs the defense, and makes their switching work while still being a help defender. OTOH a guy like Jrue Holiday, who can shut down a player but is an iffy passer and at best was a number two option on offense shouldn't be in.

Pau was a six-time NBA All-Star and a four-time All-NBA team selection, twice on the second team and twice on the third team. I'm with Gil, case in point. Len Bias. That man went against Jordan and company in college and did his thing. Didn't play in the NBA. It's an extreme example but his college career projected well in the NBA but we will never know. Any player needs to be measured against the best at their position, Wilt, Bird, Magic, Jordan. Measure up to those guys. Do well and your in. I'm a Celtics fan so there are so few numbers players can have because too many guys are in the Celtics Hall. The HOF is becoming the same thing. WMBA HOF starts with Cooper, then my favorite player Swoops.

I’d rather have Draymond Green than Gilbert Arenas on my team. Peak Draymond was an elite playmaker and defender who did all the dirty work. I trust draymond to make the plays that count to win (mostly) , I trust Arenas to get his stats. Plus can you imagine Arenas playing second fiddle to a better costar?
