It’s pretty messed up that (if I remember correctly) Embiid had France give him citizenship essentially in exchange for him playing for their team. Then he got his citizenship and told them to kick rocks, he wants a gold medal and that’s it.

From what I was able to lightly "research", for some countries that compete in international competitions they need insurance. Like financial insurance to guarantee their team players professional contracts in case they get hurt internationally. So tldr, Cameroon and many other countries dont have enough money to cover the big name stars so that is why we see these players choose other countries to represent.

It never made sense to me since I thought people were sleeping a bit on Bam.
