You can see why Santo didn't last at Tottenham, if that's how he talked to the players there that he didn't want/like. There are so many GKs who could still do a fantastic job into their late 30's and early 40's. David James was 37 when he won the FA cup at Pompey, Buffon was still winning leagues in his 40's and Shilton didn't get 125 England caps by stopping when he was 34.

The crazy thing is Joe Hart at 36 years old, with the two league titles and an FA Cup under his belt, coupled with his experience playing in England, could drop down to League One or Two and be a major asset for a team looking to get over the hump and promoted to League One or the Championship. Goalies have always fascinated me, such a unique position compared to the other 10 outfield players. Any other position players will get fairly regular game time whether through injuries, resting, rotation etc, 2nd choice goalies really rely on cup games to show what they can do. It's also really unique in the sense goal keepers can play easily into their mid to late 30's at high level. But they never seem to be appreciated quite like most outfield players do which is a shame. As a Spurs fan, players like Joe Hart should be talked about by City supporters in the same breath as Kompany, David Silva, De Bruyne IMO.

Sad how people talk about Joe Hart in the Prem. They forget how good he was. His prime wasn't long but during those years at City, he was brilliant. Of course he had his errors like every keeper but he was brilliant overall. Even before the season Pep joined and City finished 4th. Hart, Aguero and David Silva carried that team to 4th. Their backline was so trash, without him they would have finished 10th. I think most just remember his England days and tbh he wasn't good but looking at England during Euro 2012 and 2016 and WC 2014, who was any good in that squad? Not to mention when Pep kicked him out and most assume he was trash or lucky. It blows my mind honestly.

I was pretty upset when he left. Then the summer rolled around and we had those group stage qualification games against Steau Bucuresti, and a winning streak to start the season. I slowly started to forget about Joe, even though Bravo was still dodgy. Then I remember we had a 3-3 draw away to Celtic, followed by a loss at Tottenham and 3 draws in close succession at the Etihad (EFC, Borough and Saints?). Some memorable loses started filtering in, including at Everton, vs/at Chelsea and at Leicester and I got upset again and started questioning why Joe was let go of like that for that clown Bravo. Anyways, upwards from that 2017 summer so it is what it is.

Unfortunately for Joe, he reached his peak much earlier than keepers do normally. At City, we City fans saw the shortcomings in his game that just grew and grew. Main fault to his game that he couldn't get down to his left quick enough to save shots and opponents used to target this. Once they did that his worth lessened for top clubs and Joe was always going to be a bit player wherever he went.

@@haroldb6773 Eye test is amazing thing. You look 👀 and your brain registers what you are seeing. Then you read (try doing that one day) and you validate what you have been seeing (again, using your own eyes 👀) which is struggling to dive to his left. This was the case from very early on. But you can rely on other people to make judgments for you, and then you can decide based on their opinions, like a good little lap dog you are 🐶

Fozzy boy! As a suggestion, can you try to get a past and a present goalkeeper on the sane pod? That would be class. I can just imagine Ramsdsle snd Hart just waffling about Goalkeeper life.!

My Dad's a Shrewsbury Town fan and took me to a few games back in the day, Joe Hart was the goalkeeper their before City bought him (only £500k). Everyone in the town is proud of Joe, where he has come from and how far he has gone. Some people may disrespect him, but he's a legend.

I'm always praising big Foz but gotta say Tom is an excellent co host! You couldn't ask for better he asks the best questions and when those questions are being answered he patiently sits back and let's Foz or guests talk without being interrupted and in the podcast scene that shit is Soo valuable

Very happy for him, but Nuno's assessment at the time was accurate - Joe was not going to be picked up by a Premier league team during that period .

Brother, foster was playing in the PL until he was 39. Joe was 34😂 He was half right but you're telling me he wouldn't of helped to be a backup at a prem team? You're telling me he was no better than Scott Carson for example? Jog on

Was Nuno wrong? By implication, he was talking about Joe's ability to cut it in the Premier League. Saying he done bits at Celtic is hardly a counter.

I remember City stuffing us 3-0 at the stadium of light when I was about 12. Stood behind Joe Hart shouting his name for about 10 minutes trying to get his attention, he finally turned around and I shouted f*ck off. Wonder if he remembers the chubby Sunderland kid giving him stick😂

Well, even in our current situation, I still feel my City is back in the day with Goater, Dickov, Rosler, and later with New boys Aguero and Zabaletta but Joe is right up there for me. hes a hero and I thought he was a great keeper. Lets be honest, what the hell are you supporting a team for if you dont want what we have now but these guys are where my City hat is firmly hanged.
