I had an mhi fp black ball bearing on my old Evo 9 for 4 years. Stock internals, 1350cc injectors, single Walbro 255 pump. 500whp on a conservative tune. No issues at all except the spooling noise got annoying over time lol

It's a great overall turbo Paul. Proven time and again. Send it!
@K2theK-b6u3 жыл бұрын
You can do a single walbro 525 single pump. It should be sufficient. Also, FIC1650 high z injectors or ID1700 will work just fine. You can always tune for E70 to give yourself some more head room for the injectors/pump but I think that setup will work just fine for E85. I did an EvoX with a GTX3852 with FIC1650 + Walbro 525 ... 39psi no problem. Stock coils will do just fine. But you will need to gap your plugs properly. COP kit will allow you to run a bigger gap. That's all. With the SS housing on that fp black, it will be fairly laggy. As long as he keeps his torque less than 400tq on the stock rods. In the upper rpm you can easily crank the boost with a EBS and a good tuner. In terms of driveability, cams/clutch/tune will play a big role. COP kit and 525 pump won't change that. If you put S2 cams, with a nice ACT T1S or something similar, it will drive close to stock. Injectors like the ID1700 or FIC1650 high z can be tuned to almost stock driveability. Make sure to convert to Speed Density.

For $450 the cost of a COP kit, he can do more important upgrades and leave that to the end. It does not change the tune adding a cop kit at any point. A moron for running stock coils LMAO. GTFO.

I would say since you have 2 Evos, keep the black one the way it is as a fun, reliable, daily driver and have the silver one as the test mule for the FP Black! That way you get the best of both worlds. Honestly, if I could go back and do it all over again, I would stick with stock engine with bolt ons and a tune maximizing the potential of the OEM setup but also keeping the solid reliability you get from factory. Right now my Evo is with English Racing getting built with their 2.2L long block package, lol. I'll be running that with either my current CBRD BBK Full or I'll swap it for the MHI 18K if the current turbo isn't good to use anymore. My goal is to have a solid daily driver setup that doesn't sacrifice drivability/reliability/response for power. I figure an overbuilt set up well below the limit of what it's rated for should last me a very long time so I can finally enjoy the thing again. Love the videos, keep up the awesome content! I wish I had a second Evo I could use just to tear into and get to know the platform more thoroughly, haha

I’ve heard quite a few people personally say they would pretty much stop modding where my current black evo is at if they could do it all over again. hey paul, iv been on this topic all winter long trying to decide on a FP Red or Black turbo. Im 95% sure im going red.It will have similar spool coming from a BBK Turbo and still be able to provide mid 500 whp on E85. (Fully Built 2.0) From looking on the forums the Black seems to shine on the stroker built engines. However on stock bottom ends your able to keep the tq down with these turbos. Looking forward to see what you decide to do!

Plenty of folks have blown stock bottom ends with a Red. So if you're going to sacrifice transient response and a huge chunk of rpm from the powerband, you should really be getting all this turbo is worth out the top. Which you wont be able to on a stock bottom end. Plus a 2.2 will help get you back some of that response and powerband.
@lespaulguitarist923 жыл бұрын
you can easily do 500whp dynojet on that ss fp black on 93 pump stock block, so no need for upgrade injectors from your current setup. A good tuner should be able to get peak boost around 4300-5000 rpm. if going e85, you should get the motor built with upgraded fuel system..

@@BoostedFilms awsome loving your build series. The School of thought I'm from is build heads to improve breathing/power. I agree to leave the black car alone, and if you want to scratch the big power itch then throw this on the silver car eventually. I've driven a 2.0, Mivec, GSC S2, FP Black car on E85 making 605whp. If you value the ability to modulate power delivery for road course work, autox, etc then this turbo is the wrong turbo. Autox, forget it, and on a road course you're not going to be able to use the throttle very much until you have the wheel pointed straight again. Long term, it seems like everyone who goes the big power (street car) route eventually blows up enough of their shit and/or goes broke and wishes they had just kept it simple.
