Pete, as usual, you don't just deliver a great review, you go give us game assistance products that make playing easier. Thanks mate. Your efforts are much appreciated. Good job painting them so quickly too. Nice components with th game and I do like the insert. Interesting the change to 'survive test'. Something else caught my ear; 'crouch' in Deadzone works similar to 'avoid' in Test of Honour.

Thankyou, what a lovely comment, I really appreciate it. I guess changing the melee reaction options from one to two was a quick and easy bit of simplification.

This seems like an easy enough IP for non-tabletoppers to get into while the FPS feel (picking up upgrades, weapons spawning etc.) is different enough from say games like Killteam and the likes. Especially when you look at the Halo IP and what could be done with it.

As a big Deadzone fan this game had me skeptical - would it kill the better skirmish game because of a flashy IP, but I have to say I have been proven wrong. It plays a lot differently because the Spartans are a lot harder to kill, and with respawns the game is much more focused on the objectives, like capture the flag and oddball. I played Oddball yesterday and it was tonne of fun! He dragged the oddball near his respawn point and so everytime I picked it up he respawned and stabbed me in the face. It plays different, more like a videogame multiplayer, but well designed and a lot of fun.

Great Video! Vanguard Terrain on MMF has a few sets of 3d printable terrain that fit the 3x3 squares perfectly.
@EsotericOrderGamersАй бұрын
Oh, that stuff looks great!
@CityRoastGamesАй бұрын
FYI - I dont think the video you linked on painting the terrain is useful for this. HF uses cardboard terrain. Not sure how it will take paint. Appreciate the video you did for DZ terrain...but I dont think it can be used in this case. If you end up painting the cardboard....let me know. I would be interested to see how the cardboard holds up.
@EsotericOrderGamersАй бұрын
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but I was referring to the plastic terrain that Mantic sell (and that came in the 1st edition Deadzone set) - it is exactly compatible with this game. No, I would not paint cardboard! This cardboard terrain is just stuff to get you started. If you want more flexibility in your terrain setups you'll want to get (and paint!) some of the plastic terrain. And I'm guessing Mantic will probably release some Halo-themed terrain in the same style.

Soooo... its a 4 man mirror match with preassembled identical pieces for each player? I dont see this game going anywhere. At all. Just you opening the box had me bored, and the games demos Ive seen havent inspired much confidence either. They could have done SO much with this.. and they literally did the absolute bare minimum.
@nerdstuffandreviews7578Ай бұрын
The recon edition definitely feels like the bare minimum, I agree. The Spartan edition doubles the Spartans for both sides, having 8 different guys in both red and blue, plus some covenant. That version seemed like the actual game in comparison to the recon box.
@EsotericOrderGamersАй бұрын
As I mention right upfront, this is the smallest introductory set, the recon set, and there's a lot more on the way. So the contents of this set do not define the game. The game system is good. I'll release a battle report later so you can get a feel for it.
@toddwarren871Ай бұрын
they literally did way more than just the intro box. maybe next time watch the video.
@nerdstuffandreviews7578Ай бұрын
The attitude/assumption is unwarranted Todd. I wasn’t referring to Peter’s video content, that was great as always…and which I did watch in its entirety. I play Deadzone and consider it my favorite skirmish game. As far as the recon set itself, my opinion is that it IS the bare minimum that Mantic could have done as a starter. My feel is that the Spartan version will give a much better feel of the game system as a whole.

I think he was replying to the initial commenter - but it's hard to tell, because despite KZbin's billions they can't seem to implement a proper thread system in the comments! 😖

@EsotericOrderGamersАй бұрын
The Deadzone rules are pretty original actually. And Dust? What have they borrowed from Dust?
@toddwarren871Ай бұрын
Pretty Sure Deadzone is older than Dust. And Dust is dead., so good luck with that. Also, no duh.

@@toddwarren871 I don't know what Dust has to do with anything by Mantic 🤣, but btw Dust was first released in 2009 by Fantasy Flight Games, Deadzone 2013.
