I just received my preorder of Halo Flashpoint, but wave 2 is launching in 2025 and will bring OP and force building rules, really looking forward to this game based off Deadzone's ruleset! Also looking forward to Warcrow, Corvus Belli's new Fantasy skirmish miniatures game. Lastly, just an FYI, BattleTech's last kickstarter more than doubled the Trench Crusade amount at $7.6 million and had around 22k backers, and was the largest miniatures kickstarter, even breaking into the top 25 for gaming.

I highly, highly recommend Relicblade. There are 2 main reasons I think it’s one of the best games out there, those being tied to what I say categorizes the average miniature game enjoyer: the painter and the gamer. For the painter, the sculpts are wonderfully posed, with just the right amount of detail to give them life without making them a chore. You don’t have to paint 30 purity seals or pouches, just the one or two bags and option bottles. It feels like every miniature’s detail deserves to be there, and the poses lend themselves to being painted with ease. No turning this way and that, no need for sub assembly. And they’re metal minis, they feel great in hand. For the gamer, the internal balance is some of the best I’ve ever seen, rules are simple on the surface, but leave lots of room for complexity when it comes to how they’re used. There are no “factions,” just good vs evil, so pick up models and throw them together. Cards and upgrades are not faction locked, but key word locked, so there’s much more room to create the warband you want to play. It’s a skirmish, often using 4 models a side, taking around 45 min once you know what you’re doing. I was sold on the game when it was told to me like this: two high level dnd parties meet and fight. Many games are objective focused, so it becomes a puzzle to solve rather than just bashing forces against each other. But you can do that as well. Again, highly recommend, especially based on what you had to say about moonstone!
@thewynnestАй бұрын

7:21 I actually played a few intro games of TOW recently with a friend. Granted, we are very avid board gamers, and my friend can eat rules and spit explanations, so we probably have a leg-up on most players. But the basics are actually very simple, and playing while reading the rules "the core rules" section is more like an interactive tutorial. I think with a few refrence cards (strength vs. toughness, balistic skill equating to to-hit, weapon skill vs. weapon skill, etc.), you could probably speed up the game 10 fold.

@Leventa2428 күн бұрын
@@thewynnest alpha strike is a more paired down version of battletech and definitely easier to get into. But I would say the talking up of how complicated classic Battletech is a bit overstated. You just need to understand a few basics and then be fine with looking up a table or two to roll on. Battletech classic is almost a roleplaying game and it’s full of drama and incredible moments all baked into the design. Both are worth your time because they offer different things. Alpha Strike for big battles, Classic for nuanced Skirmish gameplay.

40K is a great and immersive setting, but the GW rules and chasing the books and editions are just not for me, after having played and collected from 4th edition until 7th came around... I still read the novels/books a bit and somewhat follow the game and lore, and I did get pretty deep into the 2018 version of Kill Team and played that until 2020 and our local store not having open tables on Saturdays anymore. I am somewhat excited to try the newest version of Kill Team. I've also started looking into just using my miniatures for games of One Page Rules. I will definitely keep collecting some minis and playing games, but they have to be somewhat simple to play, unlike current 40K, I just don't have the time and resources to play something with that kind of books to continually chase and also just don't PLAY games often enough to learn a rule set which is that involved. I may follow along with the new Middle Earth game, and also look into some of the ones you listed. Shatterpoint really had my attention because of the minis and terrain in the starter set, but looking into it a bit more, the proprietary dice and the damage tables and a few other parts of the actual game/rules just turned me away. I may still pick that set up and a few other minis just to paint and display them on a shelf. Cheers

@@thewynnest I think you totally should do a deep dive into the OPR rules. I am mostly interested right now in the Firefight rules, but might try the larger army sized version or the fantasy versions at some point. I've downloaded the basics and made a few lists to try it out, and after just a couple games of Firefight I think I do like it. Hoping to find a few people in my area to play it with. I think it's a great system for anyone who has some minis and is thinking about getting back into wargaming, or for someone to just try out wargaming without a huge initial buy in. Also, for casual gamers that want something fairly simple, but there is also plenty of complexity and strategy , as well as room to add more to the rules to make it more in depth. I might end up subscribing to get the full version if I end up finding some opponents. I also have a decent bit of terrain and 40K models, so am very tempted to pick up the new version of Kill Team. Hivestorm looks like a great deal for people that don't have terrain, or who like the teams it includes. I am not sure if I will pick up the smaller starter set, or just the core rules book and measuring tools... but I do kinda want the SM team and the flat MDF terrain that is pre-printed looks handy to have. Not particularly into the Death Guard, but would probably paint em up anyhow...LOL Aside from Kill Team and OPR Firefight, I am also looking forward to trying the Warmachine Mk4 rules. I have a decent collection of old Mk2 minis, so I've gotten the app and made some lists, and will be trying the Mk4 rules. The nice thing is that trying Mk4, as well as OPR Firefight won't really cost me anything. I'm hoping that Mk4 gains some traction now with what is happening lately and I wish SFG the best in reviving the game, before I took a break from games, Mk2 was one of my most favorite games. Cant wait to see what other content you put out this winter, cheers!

Personally , in 2025, I will play Team Yankee, Bolt Action, Battletech and Flames of War

Cool, if you like those definitely stay tuned to this channel. I might have gotten myself into one of these games 😶🌫️

I’ll continue playing Legions Imperialis, Middle Earth and Song of Ice and Fire. I’m looking to start Saga, and Dropfleet Commander. I just moved and they seem to have a moonstone community. Great looking game.
@thewynnestАй бұрын
Nice! Thought about including ASOIAF on the list as well. Definitely trying it out at the very least. Yeah give Moonstone a shot, it is great.
@AlexanderGiraldezАй бұрын
@@thewynnest I find ASOIAF to be the most fun and tight out of all the games I play. Then Middle Earth comes in second and beats it out due to immersion and narrative. I want to try Saga and repurpose my ASOIAF minis for it. Totally new to Dropfleet. Also looking to possibly start Blkout

X-Wing started off with so much promise to be a scenario-driven "just like the movies" kind of experience, and it really delivered on that level if you were willing to put a little bit of homebrewing effort into it. But by the second wave of releases, it became apparent that X-Wing was only ever going to be a pay-to-win game focused around standardized tournament play. I was fascinated to see how the new owners of the game attempted to swing toward more of a scenario-driven style of play, but I think that happened ten years too late.

I haven’t been around for so long, thanks for the insights. I’m pretty excited to see what the community comes up with in 2025. Hopefully back to thematic gameplay?
@skywalkersindar7463Ай бұрын
I have a completely different view, that as a dogfighting game, X-Wing got significantly worse by introducing objectives.

Getting into Bolt Action now that a new edition just released.
@thewynnestАй бұрын
I said it before and I’ll say it again; I really missed that one on the list! Never played Bolt Action tho.
@SylvaantyeАй бұрын
For me it is: 1. Malifaux, due to its card-based mechanism, no dice! 2. Warhammer underworlds, previous version 3. Moonstone
@thewynnestАй бұрын
Never tried Malifaux but heard sooo many good things about it.
@SylvaantyeАй бұрын
@thewynnest it is a shame that the player base isn't that large. But we need to start somewhere, else that player base will never grow! They have an app, you can actually see (and use) all the cards without buying anything. You can play with proxy models. It is nice, because later you can invest in their nice sculpts on a team you actually like.
@tmorton42Ай бұрын
Opr mainly, it is what 40k and fantasy should have been. Same models if you want, much better game without all of those drawbacks you mentioned with gw games. Bolt action 3rd is a good game. Battletech alpha strike is more of a traditional mini game, same minis, more of them, with less record keeping. Then we get into space wierdos, sword wierdos, and gaslands refueled. So many games! Thanks for the video!
@thewynnestАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I have been watching some more videos on OPR. Definitely giving it a try in 2025! I have a bunch of armies, now trapped in boxes cause I don’t want to dedicate a study to the rules. OPR sure does seem like the solution.

For me it would be: 1. Infinity (N5 releases this month) 2. Carnevale 3. Warcrow

Got way too into 40k lol, probably gonna sell an army at some point to consolidate haha. Decided I'm not gonna play kill team though since I play the big version, instead Ima look to Infinity for a skirmish setting. Also setting shatterpoint aside in favor of legion.

Whats with Horus Heresy? Like 40k, but just better without those "hardcore" competition-feeling.

I haven’t played it and not planning to spend another couple of hundred on another GW army game. I did look at some battle reports, looks very solid! But not on this list unfortunately.

My Top 10 1: Marvel Crisis Protocol ( The game I play 90% of the time MCP has become my most favorite game of all time and the one I most talk about to anyone, I have gotten many people from family to friends to people at my local shop that I support heavy in to play MCP. MCP is by far AMG's only hit tho they try to repeat what make MCP so awesome with Star Wars Shatterpoint, Though Shatterpoint an MCP share some aspects MCP will alway win over Star Wars Shatterpoint due to the fact that MCP team construction has wayyyyy more freedom then Shatterpoint will ever have and is a hell of alot more fun to play> 2: Conquest ( I've yet to hit this on the table but overall of rank an file fantasy games Conquest is one i very much enjoy the range that Para Bellum has released so far. 3: Infinity (A very good small scale game that feels more like a first person shooter at times, I haven't played much of Infinity but I highly recommend it) 4: Black Powder (If you want to do huge army battles like Napoleonic War to American Civil War can't go wrong with Black Powder) 5: Bolt Action (If your into WW2 history Bolt Action is a good way to start, the game scales very nicely from squad size to large army) 6: 40K (10th ed is coming to the end of its 3 year cycle, so if you want to get into 40K now would be the time to start buying mini's and then hold of until 11th ed is released) 7: AoS (4th ed is shaping up to not be too bad but the spearhead mode will go unsupported at some point in 4th editions life) 8: Star Wars Shatterpoint( Now at the moment Shatterpoint is very very linear in force construction it can be fun to play but not often) 9: The Old World ( If you started in the day with WHFB this one is a no brainer) 10: DC Miniatures Game( This game maybe very limited support in the US the game really is good.)

Great list, thanks! I’ve been looking at Bolt Action every now and then. I always had a deal with my best buddy that we’re getting into historical wargaming when we are retired. But in reality, probably within the next few years.

Funny, I bought the Moonstone starter set almost 2 years ago and forgot about it. Just found the box recently. Sadly, in that time, it appears as if it went from an up and rising game at my FLGS to them not carrying anything and others in the area not playing it. 1 day I'll get more minis for it and try hard to find someone to play.

Pretty solid list, however its missing two of my current favourites, Bushido by GCT and Carnevale by TTC. Also, Rumbleslam is pretty fun but more of a mini wargame
@thewynnestАй бұрын
Thanks for your suggestions. Bushido could definitely have been on the list, I’ve been following the game for some time now. Not sure if it is for me though, heard the system is pretty rules heavy?
@hav6301Ай бұрын
@@thewynnest Its a very tactical skirmish indeed but id say it is no worse than KT. In KT you have to juggle with so many different things other than your minis: weapons, racial, tacops, ploys, equipment, terrain, etc. Bushido feels more straightforward in many aspects. Play a demo if you ever get the chance, you won't regret it
