This weekend I had to call my ISP's help desk to get a replacement router. The experience was so bad I had to restrain myself from going full grumpy old b'stard and saying "Listen up, Sonny Jim. I helped found this team you're now working in 20 years ago, and my have standards slipped since then. Even when I worked a weekend shift by myself, no call went unanswered for more than 15 minutes." Then I realised I was rapidly approaching "Boomer" and just swallowed by anger instead, like a good GenXer.

Great vid guys. I've wanted a Halo miniatures game like this since I was a kid but it's just tragic that they're beholden to the 343 aesthetic. They've never understood the design language that made Halo so unique and easy on the eyes. If they ever release miniatures in the classic Bungie style, I'll get them day one. Will have to stick to 3D prints for now.
@brucesshipyards744Ай бұрын
Assuming Flashpoint lasts until the next Halo game comes out in 1-2.5 years, which'll likely be a Halo CE remake, you'll probably at least get a Mark V Master Chief if nothing else. Also, the fact they labeled those Spartans as being in 'Mark VII' makes me think they've already planned ahead to use Halo 2/3's Mark VI or Reach's Mark V. I don't think even 343/Halo Studios wants to go back to the Halo 4/5 look, given how they've used none of it after Infinite launched. Personally I'm hoping for the Halo 3 customization, but I wouldn't mind Halo Wars' armor, or SPI.

I keep on wanting to compare this to the latest Kill Team starter set, which feels like both a valid and an unfair comparison. On the face of it they're similar, both sci-fi skirmish games with fairly well regarded rulesets with enough miniatures and terrain to play full games from the box, and their MSRPs are similar (£60 v £67.50). But on the other hand I feel they'll work better for different audiences. Halo sounds like it has much more crossover appeal and will be an easier introduction to skirmish games than Kill Team. The Kill Team starter set may have push-fit models but even GW's push fit models can be quite fiddly to put together, and while Kill Team's rules seem pretty good, they are reasonably complex and not so beginner friendly. From my point of view I think I prefer the Kill Team starter - for a little extra you get more models, nicer models and printed MDF terrain sounds nicer than card terrain. But I'm already comfortably within the miniature gaming hobby, and don't have much attachment to Halo, so I think my perspective is missing on many of the advantages the Halo game has. So overall I think that both games have many good points and I hope that Mantic does very well with Halo!
@kodosdhАй бұрын
Comparing the 2 sets, both come with 2 full Teams without options (KT needs more models per Team, so you get more there) HF with the full rules, KT with the light rules (so you still need to buy the rulebook) HF comes with profile cards for the models, KT has the unit profiles printed on the back of the rules reference sheet HF has paper mat and enough cardboard terrain for a proper game, KT comes with a cardboard board and MDF terrain, but just obstacles and no 3D terrain so you need more in addition to the rulebook price is a little different depending on the regions, 60 VS 67 GBP, but 70 VS 87 Euro so while HF is the same you pay and extra 5 pounds for KT for not being in the UK (not much but still) and both games have some "problems", like the warping bases on the Halo models, while Kill Team wound markers need to be cut out with scissors I see HF > KT for new players as despite the downside of just having a paper mat and cardboard being not as good as MDF it is a full standalone boxed game that you can keep as it is to play games, were for KT if you want to play the full game you need the rulebook and more terrain (though you want the mousepad map for HF as well, which is similar priced to the KT rulebook, 30 vs 37, so it is just the terrain for KT) if someone is already playing KT/40k, or is more into the painting side of the hobby, the KT box is better as it has nicer models and for collectors/painters the missing rules aren't a big deal

What I want to see is a Warhammer type Halo war game that is focused on the Human Covenant war, but also has support for Flood armies, Covenant Heretics, and the not as talked about faction the Insurrectionists… the reason the spartans were made in the first place.
@LinkiePupАй бұрын
Like imagine having a UNSC army that has a unit of pricey Spartan 2s, and a ton of squishy marines. but then another guy has another UNSC army more marines, but thats because they have weaker, but cheaper Spartan 3s. But to make up for this, they could ally with a detachments of Elites! Then some dude has a Covenant army, that has a grunt focus, and is calling it the “Grunt Rebellion”. Then another dude has a late human covenant war themed army with no elites. There’s sooooo much you could possibly do!!

@tenletters5889Ай бұрын
They aren't intended to be 1:1 emulations of the videogames, they're their own experience. An FPS arena shooter plays inherently differently to a turn-based skirmish wargame. And even for games that can be made into 1:1 remakes it's just fun to have some physicality to it.

Good to hear that this game is fun, but saddly i wont' be picking it up until they reintroduce the REAL Spartan 4's in their proper gen 2 armour or unless someone makes mini's and rules of those then I'd be happy to pick this up with my brother.
@tenletters5889Ай бұрын
I think you're the first person ever to not only prefer gen 2 but also sound like a Bungie fan in 2015 while doing it
@RubyGalaxyYTАй бұрын
@@tenletters5889 I kept the original comment short as to not drop the mood. Not sure how it came across as a bungie fan in 2015 as I never went to the forums. In short my problem with Gen 3 is that it's just refurbished gen 1 and reach armour, and this leads into dilluiting the different spartan generations so now you cant tell them apart, but yes I am aware from the get go that critisisim also applies to how Gen 2 was introduced. What I'm critiqing of the art direction is that it shouldn't repeat the same mistake with having all spartans wear the same suit style as it robs them of their individual characteristics and character fashion expression. An Ideal meet in the middle solution could have both generations be on screen at the same time with some upgrades to gen 1 to enjoy the benefits of gen 2. Gen 1 is more like a tank where as gen 2 is for speed.

its such a shame that the models (comparatively to gw) are so low in detail, and pvc plastic is never a benefit
@jjjjj4222Ай бұрын
I'm not a super detail fiend (actually prefer the modern Mantin/WGA/Warlord/North Star level of detail over a lot of current GW or other rather fiddly but highly detailed sculpts), but the PVC choice is pretty strange, has to be a money thing. Mantic seems to be slowly phasing out PVC in Kings of War, but that might just be a case of having higher quality materials for the flagship game is more economically viable
@TrisaartАй бұрын
@ as someone who’s main enjoyment comes from painting, its driven me away from playing several games simply due to me knowing i wont enjoy the experience with it being pvc plastic
@jjjjj4222Ай бұрын
@Trisaart That's totally reasonable, I also own exactly 1 PVC kit and didn't enjoy it so avoid it even more than resin. Luckily for any Halo super fans, since it's based on deadzone I'm sure you could find all manner of NotSpartans, NotODST, and NotElites from various 3D printing services and just buy a Deadzone/Firefight rulebook and get the full Halo Flashpoint experience (minus weapon pickups presumably?)
