I took my FPV49 out for its maiden this morning. First launch with not enough throttle resulted in a tip-stall and noseplant. Second go was much better and it flew really well just have to add some up elevator to trim it for level flight. Thanks for the plans, I pretty much built to your spec but have used 2.5mm plywood to sandwich and reinforce the motor mount/main body location and also on the elevon horns base. 60A plush speed control 35-30kv 1400KV prop drive motor 9" prop. I im from NZ but moved to Perth. I used genuine 6mm thick depron and it wasn't very cheap. The 5 sheets plus 2 tubes of uhu por were just under $100AU

It is my (limited) understanding that the KFm-4 will fly faster and track better. I'm currently working on building this plane and looking forward to test it! My other wing FPV49 v2 uses the KFm-2 airfoil and is pretty good for FPV, but you have to adjust trim for different speeds. The goal with FPV49 v2 and v3 is to carry a GoPro and not have the micro vibrations/wobble you can see on some of my FPV49 v1 videos. FPV49 v1 is KFM-2 but has one 6mm bottom sheet and 2x6mm KFm-step (more flex).
@FPVTrond12 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you build what i call the FPV49v1 or FPV49v2 variant, they can fly real slow, easy to launch and take a lot of punishment. (Only add steps on top of the plane to make a KFm-2 airfoil). To make the v1 you only use one of the big sheet on the bottom and two of the medium sheets on top of that. To make the v2 you use two big sheets and two medium sheets. When I first started I was surprised how easy it was to fly wings so don't be afraid of them :)

Very nice 3D CAD work here - well worth the effort. Nice over-all. Considering hot-wire foam approach w/carbon reinforcing. Love the way this "floats"! Again.. GREAT JOB!

Finally finished mine but i need like 200gr in the nose to get the cg correct (not using a gopro) I had to make my motor mount extend 15mm from the back (for the motor to not rub against the cf). What is the max weight that you have flown with? I am using one 5000mah battery as close to the nose as I can but as the vtx and receiver are in the wingtips I need more weight in the front. I hope it will fly as I have probably spent 30hrs on the build if not more and 5tubes of UHU poor :P.
@FPVTrond12 жыл бұрын
I feel that the KFm-2 will give you a little more "bumpy" ride, but its still quite nice since it can be made so light. The KFm-4 however feels like its more on rails and just want to go forward. I would recommend KFm-2 for casual flying and KFm-4 if you want to make stable video, fly fast or if you want to fly acrobatics. RCSuperpowers made a great video comparing the various KFm wings and I definitely agree with their conclusion. The best wing imo would be a light KFm-4 :)

Thank you for the reply, Why would'nt the FPV49V3 be suitable? I thought the V3 was more stable. Or does it have to be flown faster so less suitable for a beginner?.

Hi, I'm no expert in CG and flight characteristics, but so far I have used a CG of around 25 to 25.5cm from the nose. (9.84252 to 10.0394 inches). This may be way off so if you find a more correct CG please let me know :)
@Fallingz11 жыл бұрын
hehe ye will be a pain to launch. I used most of the glue in the start but I realized that I used way to much so i started to use less after I had glued half the plane. I also took a bit of UHU on my finger and put a thin layer on the front of the plane before i but the tape on will hopefully hold down the tape really good. But I was very unlucky as the esc got burnt when I was playing around with failsafe and other settings, now I have to wait 4weeks to get a new from hk >.< I WANT TO FLY! :(

It's because of the speed yes :). A lighter plane can fly much much slower than a heavier one.

I laminate the entire plane with packing tape including the "socket" where the GoPro is mounted. The GoPro in its housing just stands on top of the taped foamboard with a bead of hotglue arround the foot just to be sure.

Hello, Great Videos. thanks for sharing the plans. I have a X 2216-8 1250 K V Sunny sky Motor and x 2 2.2 3s Batteries I would like to adapt to a smaller version of the FPV 49. Could I scale this Wing down to say 40 inches to accommodate the smaller motor and prop (9.4) I'm worried about the thickness As i have the same as you 6 mm sheets. I cant scale the thickness down unless I use less layers...
@Brucelectricmoose10 жыл бұрын
I'm making a 1000mm at the moment. Whether it will fly is a different matter but have a new motor on order' lower kV for weight to prop ratio and size of wing 1000mm being under 39 inches. The first problem is reducing the size when you work in mm from inches. Also the thickness. A 49 is 6 layers thick in total mine is 4. Look up projectflightdesign he makes an fpv 40

Bruce Moose Scale down is no problem :)

Having an issue with my fpv49 waggling in yaw. I know it's an issue with all wings, but it will do it in straight and level flight. Any tips on how to get rid of this? I was thinking of making the fins asymmetric with more area above the wing as I've heard this helps. Have you experienced this?
@FPVTrond8 жыл бұрын
+iFli Yes everytime I test a new built wing and it proves to be a little tail havy i will have this issue :) Try adding a lot of weight in the nose or throw in bigger batteries etc. :=)

+FPVTrond Thanks for the tip, I'll check it again for CG. Nice design by the way. I snapped mine in half after pulling too tight a turn at full throttle on 4s (ground speed was almost 150kph!) and have now built it with an extra step in the centre section. So it's a kfm4 with a kfm7 in the middle.

@@breitlingl3990 the wing shape is fairly simple and straight forward so i don't think you will have any trouble making it in balsa or 3d printed. However, it's much easier to just slap some depron or dollartree foamsheets together :D. In general i recommend to build the smaller version nowdays: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3rYpKiBbZh0eLc :)
