@GrannyTenderstone
@GrannyTenderstone 10 жыл бұрын
petar dim it means like it changes up, into something else. You know like those videos where they morph different people's faces sequentially? It's pretty cool. It could even describe how our thought patterns tend to work: you are thinking about one thing and then it goes somewhere else.... and then I can relate it to nonsequitirs, look that up, you start saying one thing and then let it go all over the place LOL.

For me, the beginning part encompasses the pain and suffering of grief, and the gorgeous, meloncholic middle part encompasses the memories and nostalgia of the past. Goddamn genius, Chopin.
@andymilstenmusic8520
@andymilstenmusic8520 3 жыл бұрын
I very much agree with you on that, the beginning has a very dark atmosphere usually like what we feel after a tragedy such as death, divorce, etc. as well as the feeling of loneliness! While the middle definitely triggers nostalgia and the feeling of missing the happier times like childhood and when we didn’t have to deal with stress or anything like that! This hits hard because I just started my senior year, and it’s gonna hurt more and more as time goes on like fr!!

Bravissimo Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli ! I am fascinated by this reclusive pianist who was born in January 1920 and died in the summer of 1995. He didn't feel he deserved applause at the end of concerts, he felt it was the composers who deserved the appreciation. He would practise for 8 to 10 hours a day, seeking to perfect his technique and then work on the interpretation. The great French pianist Cortot, hearing Michelangeli play Liszt at a piano competition, said that Michelangeli was a new 20th century Liszt. A perfectionist, Michelangeli was also famous for cancelling concerts, on one occasion it was because of fresh air coming in through a window causing the grand piano to go out of tune. He often had his own grand piano sent around the world with him. Michelangeli was also renowned as a fine teacher, Pollini being one of his pupils. He had more than his fair share of health problems and died aged 75. When a record label he had co-owned went bust in Italy in 1968, the Italian authorities confiscated two of Michelangeli's grand pianos. He never forgave Italy for this and went to live in Switzerland. In his will, he requested that the cause of his death be kept a secret and he does not even have a gravestone in the cemetery where he is buried (in a village called Pura). He had served in the Italian air force during WW2. Late in the war, after Italy had been regained by the Allies, Michelangeli's plane got shot down by the Germans. He claimed that his German captors whipped his hands when they found out he was a pianist, but if this is true then thankfully it did not have long term effects on his playing ability, which had emerged very early in life, he had finished his conservatoire piano studies very early and had also studied violin too. A truly fascinating character and great pianist, he was also a deeply religious man and performed several times in the Vatican.

Piggies get enough $$$$ from their near Monopoly, Google, the richest company in history. Don't talk freedom: CEOs know only one kind, and it doesn't make room for anyone else.

The best version I have heard so far. It is often done too quickly. Michelangeli really does make it sound like a funeral march - like a great loss has occurred, The slow crescendo up to 1:14 is amazing. The way he darkens the tone from 1:35 to 1:40 is too. The long middle part, should be a happy memory of the lost loved one. Thanks for posting.

This song really gives you the feeling of death. You feel like it's all over, and there's nothing you can do about it. The world is going up in flames, and every living thing on earth is dying a slow and sad death, and they are accepting their fate without screaming. This is a very beautiful piece.

Love to watch his hands and fingers! They seem like ten swan's down feathers attached to his wrists. His softest notes seem to evaporate into thin air leaving me with an image of the vapor trail of a swan or a jet that has already passed. Somehow this piece in his hands seems at once terribly impressive and somber, and yet terribly wistful and gentle. My favorite kind of piece!

Played by a military band during the funeral cortage of President Kennedy 50 years ago. That music and the beating of the muffled drums is a memory never to be forgotten. I find this piece captures it all. It starts with the somber march, evoking the scene of the funeral of the deceased, then a beautiful section evoking the trials and tribulations of the life that has just passed, with its victories and defeats. Then we enter the mid-section, which captures the spirit of the man leaving the body and entering the spirit world into a blissful kind of state, leaving the physical world behind. Finally, we return to the funeral where the mourners gather and the evocation of the man's life. The playing here is precise. I love how the man withdraws his hands in such a controlled manner at the end.

I love this piece. My former piano professor would not allow to play this piece at my college's annual Spring Concert/Art Exhibition. He said this piece is too long and somber for an upbeat program. I really wanted to play this, but I am playing Chopin's Raindrop Prelude. I really love dark pieces. I am not depressed, but I just have a thing for dark piano pieces and sad songs.

I love this song, yet, at the same time, I'm haunted by it. I can appreciate it's beauty, but it's meaning frightens me. I hear this and the hair on the back of my neck stands straight up. I check under the bed and in the closet for the Grim Reaper. I cannot listen to this alone or in the dark. This song succeeds at bringing back my most visceral, childhood fears. I hear this and picture a creepy death song.

i refuse to have a funeral but I would like to have this played at some point during my wake. I'd never actually heard the piece till now and while the video could stand to be louder, this is a lovely piece of music.

I'm pretty sure Chopin had been a genius wherever he'd been born. The amount of his glory that belongs to the polish people and the french people is the same, it's 0. We're standing on the shoulders of giants, we should only be grateful.

Probably the single most recognizable song in the history of Mankind. And not just the song but the feelings described by it. You cannot misinterpret the idea of the creator, the feelings he wanted to transpire from it.

Death isn't completely sad. So it makes sense that neither would this song be. The song conveys a sense of nostalgia, nostalgia for the good times when you were together.

this is a great piece, by a great composer, played extremely well! was anybody else taught by their mothers that old saying "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all"? Good advice, methinks!

+Meg Bailey That saying is pretty dumb, if you ask me. how can anything become better when we don't criticize? Sticking to a bad idea just because you don#t want to hurt anyone's feelings is not a good idea.
@Celstray
@Celstray 9 жыл бұрын
uztre6789 i interpret the quote like this "don't say anything that is rudely unnecessary." emphasis on the word unnecessary. if ur criticism is pointless and baseless in the long haul, it'd be best if you don't say it however, harsh critism is a good thing. we need it in order to "improve". plus, I prefer to be aware rather than ignorant and delusional.
