As an introverted curmudgeon, who would rather spend the day praying and finding solutions to problems, than making small talk with acquaintances, this gives me great consolation, haha.

Having social skills is important, and it's humble to admit that we have weak social skills - inability to make friends. Imagine praying to Jesus, "Lord, help me to make friends because you know my social skills are weak." Wow! what a remarkable prayer that is. Invite God into your weakness, and cry out to Him for help. Use your weaknesses as an opportunity to be close to Jesus. Don't just sit there and feel sorry for yourself - you know you have a weakness in social skills, it's your choice to improve yourself or to just sit there and do nothing about it.

I have noticed the more I pray the less nice I become. Oddly though I do feel like I am doing more good because I am not lying to people to make them feel good and therefore feel like I have more energy to take care of myself and others who really need help.

That is a sign that you are going in the wrong direction. We are supposed to grow in the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
@joane242 сағат бұрын
Well, assuming you're not a great saint like e.g. Mother Theresa, or at least not yet, that's rather a sign that the weaknesses and *vices* of your nature start to show up. Yes, these things may show up from prayer, because you're entering into spiritual fight and the vices inside your heart go out (or call it, manifest themselves what spirits have been guarding your passions within your heart or what weakness make you prone to these vices). Meekness, gentleness, understanding, compassion - these are the fruits of the Holy Spirit. It's not at all about 'being nice', but it's even deeper. Being nice is superficial, it's about pleasing people for their approval. The intention is wrong. It should be about being *gentle* and *kind* to people because you suffer them for the love God (yes, I used the term suffer them, because some people's presence or behavior we have to suffer through...). For example, many writers talking about imitating Virgin Mary speak about her sweetness, and about being sweet like honey towards other people. Again, that's not about being superficially nice, it's supposed to be as a result of the love of God and charity: willing the good of the neighbor.

A Deliverance Prayer By the power of the Precious Blood, by the Name of Jesus and by the intercession of Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. Michael the Archangel, all Holy Angels and Saints. I command the demon of (state the problem youre having) to stop afflicting me, my ancestor, my family, my cherished loved ones, my descendants, and all members of the Catholic Church, and go to the foot of the cross to receive your sentence. Amen

I fell into idolatry, worshipping a contourfeit virgin mary, I'm willing to bet it's an air or water spirit. Then I got greedy and got fixated on money and my lack of it, and ended up worshipping a false God who I thought was God, but just a false counterfeit whos fooling alot of these self proclaimed christian prophets/mediums online so this would've been a effective prayer in the beginning of my journey but it's a Lil too late for that right now, only Jesus can help me now. Again sorry everybody.

Oh my! Thank you for this. I am very patient and prudent, too prudent which is not good, either; however, I get too a RABID point when I clearly hear people talking in the “mass of always,” aka traditional HOLY mass. There are people who don’t know better but I have a problem with those who DO know better. It’s far worse when it’s those people who are active helpers in the church community. I am appalled at the parents who entertain their kids talking during mass instead of teaching through example and letting them observe. There is a time to ask questions and a time to respond. All they are teaching their children is lack of courtesy (charity) by giving into their need for instant gratification. What bothers me is not only the lack of charity towards neighbor but far worse…lack of respect, reverence, honor, GRATITUDE AND LOVE for God in that mass that CASCADES a MONSOON of Graces. I usually stay quiet but lately I can’t, anymore. When I tell them to STOP their talking the person actually tries to tell me why they are talking. I don’t entertain the argument they are trying to pull me into. To my amazement, they actually stop talking completely. I went to confession because I thought I was wrong. I’m not because it was a reaction I cannot hold in anymore that stems for my incredible gratitude and love for God. I don’t expect people to have that feeling or understand but I do expect courtesy for neighbor. The talking during a mass is complete disregard for those around them to feed their own vain pride. I also find something so wrong with taking pictures especially at the time of consecration. It’s like taking pictures of Jesus as some sort of Disney on ice spectacle or a mockery of Jesus and Blessed Mother being raised on the cross. This tells me they don’t really believe. It’s usually by those who really know better. I can’t even look at the action of raising the phone while the Holy mass is going on. There is something so wrong with this. I can’t do anything about that. It’s not like I want to say anything in the first place. But lately I have these instances that I can’t with the talking which gets louder as the choir chants PRAYERS. Obviously, the people who know better don’t fathom that it’s not just a Protestant song. The chants are actual prayer verses from the Holy Bible, the Word of God

Its simple, the saints are jesus. And jesus is the christ. so therefore we are like... mmm from the kingdom, and only hope for God! and we know that you all and me are imperfect but not without christ, because he makes everything perfect. Holy in virtue, what does that mean exactly?
@BindingTheYoke15 сағат бұрын
I think Fr might be confusing Character with Temperament as your temperament is your natural God given disposition and are not very mutable outside of grace. But your Character you can form or deform through life, others can even do it damage, but you can always amend it by your own will or by grace. Since you are expected to work against the defects of your character which are inclined by your innate temperament to which ever vice, its not that the Character is immutable but that your character is inclined to the nature of your temperament which make it very hard to change, and God more often than not will leave a defect in the soul to keep it humbled. 😂 besides being someones spiritual sandpaper is always a fun time. 😑😅

Thank you. I was consternated over the reference to character as well, but couldnt quite put my finger on the right response. I think I just found it...
@Lcoreyful4 сағат бұрын
Ive gotta disagree. And i knew from the beginning that it would lead to a teaching that i believe is false. Niceness is not useless. Its called being kind. And yes, we should be kind to everyone, that is a major virtue. Charity even. If you cant be kind to someone, you cant love them. I think some people read the Prophets of the Old Testament or Jesus in the Gospels and want to be just like them casting thunderbolts of words and rebuking the Pharisees. Well, if someone does that in todays world, youd be in a mental hospital. Be who God is leading you to be, and dont get trapped into thinking that speaking powerful words makes you powerful.

Nope. I dont believe this, Virtues and Character grow together. His statement is very contradicting to human nature and Psychology. Once a person grows in virtue, personality and character always follow. Just look at the lives of the Saints, many of them suffer Anger but when their virtues grew, they become patient, meek and charitable to others. Fr Ianuzzi’s statememte are very questionable.

😂Fr Pio was Still as another commenter quipped "Spiritual Sandpaper" The Unabridged version of Mary of Agreda's City of God are very enlightening for one such example. Not like the abridged in its Character. There are a plethora of Saints like he says which to the end had such traits Elizabeth of Hungary was another such example. Who would have left their children at their ages?! Would Zellie Martin have? No. Rita of Cascia? No. Very different woman all of which had their foibles

It’s hard to say that’s how it works because… what’s a better character? What characteristics of it are we discussing on and who based on what defines what’s better in matters of dealing with other people? What’s the goal in interactions? Well, I imagine the best goal would be to always do God’s will, and what is God’s will and how do you follow it? The saints are the ones who know better than others what is God’s will at least FOR THEM, and follow through with it, that’s how you get virtuous in the first place.
