Revelation only became questioned becausae of the montanist heretics heavy use of it or misuse of it. Irenaeus c AD 180 had no question about it and mentined no question about it as I recall. Some argue it has a rougher less cultured style than John's Gospel but Revelawtion was written by John describing what he saw as he saw it, and alone on Patmos, while the Gospel was written when he would have had scribes to help him smooth it out.

I can't stand when people try to deny same authorship from one book to another, claiming different vocabulary, contents, style, etc. Of course those things are going to be different, especially when the different volumes that have been written and are being reviewed are distinct, very different literary genres. Of course Revelation doesn't read the same way as the Gospel of John-it wasn't intended to. It's Jewish apocalyptic literature, for crying out loud, and fits ever so nicely into that (its proper literary) category. The Gospel, though, is precisely that: a gospel, _not_ an apocalypse.

I appreciate his zeal and passion! However, his statement about the end of the world having already come so we have nothing to do down here etc... is a little be hyperbolic! We are a communion that are filled with The Holy Spirit that have been given gifts to serve God and one another enjoying the "benefits," of the Kingdom of God, succinctly Immanuel's Power, Provision and Presence to overcome, in The Lord's Mercy, the many mountains and toils and snares and deaths! And with all of these things to take them out into the world to shine among the night! Salvation is not just quantitive, it is also qualitative! "I came that they may have life and have it 'more abundantly.'-John 10:10 (prosperity heresies notwithstanding) I wish he'd parse that out more!

sure Revelation is about what Fr. Hopko says on a spiritual sense, but there is a literal sense to all Scripture also. Orthodoxy doesn't spiritualize everything away. Jesus did't say when the abomination of desolation stading in the TEMPLE but in THE HOLY PLACE, the location of where the Holy of Holies was in the Temple on the Temple Mount is known. rebuilt temple or not, all the antichrist would have to do is stand where that was, and its location on the Temple Mount is known. Nero was only suggested as the antichrist in 1831 or something like that. I think that if this were a legitimate interpretationm, church fathers would have viewed it this way already. Nero was only a prefiguring of the antichrist. Fr. Hopkpo and others have been influenced by non Orthodox sources some of whom have insight on Scripture and history, some do not.

Thomas Hopko is correct about many things and a great teacher, but he is not naming or doesn't know the true enemy of the church. The institution which has embraced and promotes this Babylonian religion is Freemasonry (synagogue of Satan). There are two rival Freemason organizations the English Grand Lodge which promotes pagan eastern religions and the other the French Grand Orient (atheists) which has placed man above God. It is not the blue lodge members who are responsible they are deliberately misled by the higher initiates of the 30 to 33 degree freemasons. Any Christian in a Freemason organization must repent and abandon it, the hierarchy of Freemasonry is working to establish a "utopia" on earth (tower of babel), they wish to destroy Christianity because it opposes their great work. They destroy Christianity by infiltrating a church' and introducing false doctrines and causing divisions to weaken and destroy the church from within. @@infowolf1 Daniel was already completed in 70AD and the antichrist was already present in 1 John 2 and 1 John 4. Daniel gives a precise timeline, there is no pause to it, it was precise and ended precise, otherwise it is a false prophecy and Daniel a false prophet. There is a second coming but it is not tied to the others. The Olivet Discourse of Luke specifies that the Age of the Gentile must be complete before the next part begins, hence why the man of perdition must be revealed, that makes the new age: the Age of the Gentile, as quoted by Jesus. YOUR version makes Jesus out to be a liar, amazing you managed to twist it around the other way.

The prophecy of Daniel is about the Temple and Holy People, which both ended in 70AD. The Olivet discourse is about the end of the temple AND THEN His return, two different topics. Jesus splits the two by adding that after the Great tribulation the Age of the Gentile would need to be fulfilled to be completed. THEN the sun and moon would darken, etc etc (the prophecy of Joel) and He would return. A lot has already taken place, not all. Futurists are completely anti-Bible and just as well full Preterists suffer the same. The Age of the Gentile has yet to be fulfilled, which is why the courtyard is given to the Gentiles in Revelation but not the temple, because the temple was destroyed (in 70AD) and made desolate (which Jesus did in Matthew 23) thus completing the prophecy of Daniel.
