I recently purchased one of these. I can attest that it ones of the highest quality cases I have ever purchased. Much better than the standard on the newer Corsair ones. It's very modular and allows 360 at the front and top, vertical GPU mount and everything. I was honestly blown away by the quality and design of it. Even how genius the 2.5 and 3.5 drive mounts are on the other side. Sound proofing on the entire case and removable filters. The top if you have a rad, you can remove a metal panel from it to make it a grill for the radiator. Top buy in comparison to it's competitors. Good vid pal

My main rig is currently in an R4, my media server with 8 drives is cool and quiet in an R5, and my new main machine will go into an R6 later this year as I move to custom water cooling. I enjoy other cases and have built in a few NZXT and Corsair for friends and family, but my own boxes will all be Fractal. If the Meshify C could take a longer GPU with a front rad I'd probably switch, but for now the R series is the best for high end GPU and water cooling for me. If you're going to air cool, don't need an internal 5.25 drive, and will run 140mm fans (to bring down noise), the Meshify C is arguably better IMHO. Great vid.

I've got the older R4 and still love it. It's just fantastic in every way i can think of. Well built, so soundproof yet the temperatures are nice, and everything is so well thought out inside. The R5 and R6 look even better though i've not seen a big anough reason to upgrade my case.

the only thing I don't like about it is the placement of the controls and USB. I'd prefer them on the front as apposed to the top. I use the usb a lot and have my chassis in a desk with the computer cubby hole. I have a shelve right above mine and having the front controls works best for me. Love the removable access panel on the side, that's really nice to hide the mounting screws and wiring. it would be nice if it had more drive bays... A minimum of 2 is the best. plenty of drive bay accessories out there! (fan controllers, etc.) Nice build!

I like fractal design R series. This is very special, thought a bit pricey at 299 NZD. Haven't build on 1 but it looks very easy to build on and the quality is premium.

When I bought the Define R5 I thought it was expensive too but it has stood the test of time super well, still a great case for my second rig, so I think it is worth it.

I've got the Define S, which is the best case I have used so far. Looking at upgrading to the Meshify C some time this year. Fractal Design makes excellent cases.

Only downside with this is the single optical bay... I know most people in 2018 don’t use them but I like the option. My R5 uses the 2x optical bays to house a hard drive hotswap bay (SSD, HDD, HDD) which keeps the two intakes below nice and unobstructed for optimum coolness 😎

Boston Stump I could get away with one optical drive, but I need a 360 rad. Is it somehow possible in any case?

Do you also have exhaust fans on the top lid of your R5? How do you handle the lack of dust filters up there? Dont you get tons of dust inside your R5?

nope! the top and sides of my case are sealed shut for quietness and keeping dust out. I like positive air pressure in my case to stop unfiltered air begin sucked in through crevasses. With 2 intakes vs 1 exhaust the case will only ever expel air through crevasses. I cleaned my case for the first time in 6 months a few days ago and the dust levels were minimal and mostly concentrated on/around the fans.

Love the R6 I just wish they had an airflow option for that front panel instead of a sealed door. Kinda of like the 450D or 750D. I may have to mod that door when the case finally arrives.

I am currently using a Cooler Master CM690 III it's a Great case and I have been pleased with it for over 2 years but I run 6 - 3.5" Hard Drives and 2 SSD's and I also use a DVD Drive and not many cases cater for them any more but I am struggling to get my cables tidy so the R6 is going to be the perfect case for me so I should have it next week and hopefully it should last me for years lol Great revue Kevin love your chanel

Considering the windowless USB-C version for studio use. How does the fan controller work? I mean how do you actually control the fans? Is there a panel for controlling them or is it all software? And if so - which would you suggest? Current setup is from spring 2012 (Fractal Design XL Black Pearl + 3770K).

Yes, great case - possibly the best in it's class currently. I just hope the next version (R7) has a REMOVABLE PSU shroud. It is REALLY ticking me off that it is not removable. If I'm paying $300+ here in Australia for a Seasonic Titanium Or AXi Corsair PSU WHY oh WHY would Fractal force me to cover it up with that damn shroud when the gorgeous glass window affords such a great view of a magnificent high end PSU. Couldn't have been rocket science difficult to make it removable, surely Fractal?!! Does anyone, including the reviewer, know when the R7 is due please?

I have a 804 node case for a NAS array. I would be better if they work on better case fans for pwm control header, a easy drop in access for tool less 2.5 inch ssd, secondary power led indicator for power header and rest side button.

Just buy another dust filter for the case I just bought one but I put some background lighting effect in it it makes it easier to see

I got the R6 and removed the the panel on the right side. It's just in the way and doesn't really look that good.

I rather like the R5, as that was my first recent build, so I'm intrugued by the R6,. The only question that comes up is - I wonder if there are going to be RAM clearance issues with tall RAM like Trident Z and if you want to mount a 280mm AIO up top. That's my only worry.

eladbari I leave the modovent covers up top, so no dust gets in that way. The only thing I have are the fans up front behind the filter and the one out the back.

Unless you have a clear panel the cables behind the MB don't need much. I don't know exactly when the OCD folks got into the scene but there's more important things in life to fuss over besides a few wires hidden in the back of a PC lol

The front has two 140mm fans, however there is space at the bottom. What size fan can you mount at the bottom? What Noctua cooler have you in there?

Avalon looking at the manual for the r6 it does. Should be at least 2,5 cm of free space between the cooler and the side.

Well, it's the best case for me so no complaints here. But! Can you try removing that front panel and installing it in the back of the case. It's kinda designed for this. Good cable management is built in (almost) and you don't really need the panel to "Hide" other stuff. :-) You've seen the rear of the case, you know where to put the cables. Thanks for the review. Could you please (at least) try a Video showing that you tried the panel in the rear of the case? Maybe show the fitting and the advantages and disadvantages? It can be awkward sometimes, at least it was for me :-) There are no real disadvantages unless you're running a ton of Mechanical HDD's. I'd love to watch it and I would love to hear and watch a detailed removal and installation of the panel with your opinion. It really is a great case and Fractal deserve a better showing of their case. (No offence) Subbed!!
