Essentially, it's not about 'parallel' processing but it's about placing reverb between Amp and Cab, which makes the reverberations 'not distorted' but still 'filtered' by the cab. Parallel processing makes sense when you use more than 2 effects in parallel, so no effect is affecting each other. The only difference when you have only one effect in parallel is that you are doubling volume, so be careful when comparing to non-parallel (you could do -3db to essentially cut the volume to half). So you could achieve the same sound by putting Reverb in line between Amp and Cab and just pick an appropriate Dry/Wet value (and ofc match volume as I said above) At least that's what I think, I did an A/B test with matched volume and I couldn't hear any difference. Other than that, you got yourself a really wonderful sound there, kudos.

Great tip. I was surprised how plastic-y the spring reverb sounds compared to the Helix. The parallel setting sounds more natural.

Hi Jon, would love to know the Comp settings and which cabs you've used on this particular preset. Cheers!

This is actually a part of a preset I’m selling that is meant to get Dead and Company tones. Haven’t recorded the video for it yet.

I do believe it was the JFET compressor and two EV speaker cabs.

Very nice! I prefer the parallel as well.

I appreciate you watching! I think both have their place for sure, but the parallel approach really helps the notes pop through and let the reverb trails be a nice bed for the tone to rest on.

In the FM3 the cab block with the microphone (57, 121, etc), has a "colour sound". If we put the reverb before the cab+mic the reverb signal cross the cab+mic signal. Could be better to reverb the final sound, the sound after the cab+mic. Could be? It´s a opinion of learning person "fractal world".

Great Fractal content! Though everyone goes for super bright tones, im more of a TR - Traditional Clean guy and go for a thick, warm and round tone. Hope to see some more from other people to one day to^^

I’m more of a TR type of player too when it comes to my Fractal. It’s a great amp model, but have been favoring their Dumble ODS for bit since I’ve been creating a Dead and Co/Grateful Dead preset. Thanks for watching!

@@JonKaneshiroGuitar Nice, yeah the ODS is awesome, the Ford/Hrm running cleaner also got nice flavours :)

Hello Jon from Spain. I´m learning FM3 and i have a question. If we use the reverb, in line or paralel, before cab, we lose the ambient, the stereo effect reverb. I think the cab is a big filter signal. Could be better use the reverb like the last block signal? THANKS
@JonKaneshiroGuitar2 жыл бұрын
So typically people run the reverb at the end of the signal chain for a more crystal clear reverb trail. In this case, Fractal actually recommends placing the spring reverb before the amp for more authentic spring reverb sounds. In an amp like a Deluxe Reverb, the spring reverb is actually linear to the preamp of the amp. The preamp colors the spring reverb which is kind of the magic behind those amps. I just took it a step further to make sure there isn’t as much “boing” and more of the notes popping through. Try all the options though and see what you prefer.
