Look in the frozen section of Asian foods store. They often stock whole leaves there.

hi, what's the final volume that you get after boiling from 2.5L? is it around 1.3L?
@HomeCookingwithSomjit
@HomeCookingwithSomjit Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel Lui. Depending on the heat, if boiling vigorously it should reduce quite a lot. If boiling in medium heat it should reduce to around 1.8 - 2.0 L 😀 Thank you for the comment 😀

Wonderful. I hv always wanted to make this drink after my trip to Bangkok some years back. Just to clarify, in the video you said 250g of pandan leaves, but you wrote 120g of pandan leaves in the description, so which one is the right amount?
@HomeCookingwithSomjit
@HomeCookingwithSomjit 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elaine, thank you for bringing it to my attention. I made a mistake. It should be 120g of pandan leaves as 250g is double the recipe. Hope it helps 😀

Hi manjeri 25, thank you for the comment 😄 Pandan leaves are usually used in desserts like drinks or jellies. This jelly recipe is made from coconut milk and pandan water. It's visually stunning and very delicious too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2q3eZuMZtp8hq8 Pandan can also be used to wrap meats for that extra flavour. Here's Pandan Chicken, a Thai recipe that uses pandan leaves to wrap the chicken before deep frying it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJOZpGuBq6t5mpY More pandan leaves usage coming soon. Stay tuned 😄

Hi Myraj B, thank you for the comment 😀 I have not tried it with dried pandan before. However, I think that the taste will be very weak as I've found pandan leaves lose their fragrance and some essence when dried. Hope it helps 😀

Will pandanus plant grow in this country, and where can I buy the seeds,or the plant
@HomeCookingwithSomjit
@HomeCookingwithSomjit Жыл бұрын
Hi James Cuddihy, as far as I know, the pandanus plant grows very well in Southeast Asian region (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, etc). I'm not sure about other countries. Perhaps you can try propagating from the local nursery, or ordering the seeds online. Hope it helps 😀

Why can't you just boil the pandan an sugar at the same time?

When you add sugar along with the leaves, some of the sugar might be lost when the pandan leaves are removed in the end.
@naimmahmood
@naimmahmood 2 жыл бұрын
Sugar always go in last since it will disrupt the process of boiling the leaves.

Can you change the name of this video? Pandan = Pandanus amaryllifolus. Screw Pine = Pandanus tectorius. Completely different plants., pandan is a small plant and screw pines can get huge You will confuse people and it may have consequences. You don't want people getting sick.
@HomeCookingwithSomjit
@HomeCookingwithSomjit Жыл бұрын
Hi M G, thank you for the comment 😀 Many articles use Pandan, Pandanus and Screw Pine interchangeably, to mean the type of plant. Under it, there are many species with different sizes, as you have stated. However, only "Pandanus Amaryllifolus" leaves are used for cooking. Doing a search for "Screw Pine Leaves" will bring up the correct plant, as there are many culinary resources that also refer to "Pandan" as "Screw Pine". Additionally, in the video, I have also shown a clip of harvesting the leaves from the shrub, so there should not be any confusion as to which plant the leaves were obtained from. Hope it helps 😀

Good without any sugar. The sugar negates any health benefit you would get from the pandan. Really helps with arthritis.
