I have gone into the Fram filters in the past, but now I dig a little deeper why the Fram Tough Guard is more expensive then Fram Extra Guard.
Off the Fram website I see that the Fram Extra Guard filtration is blend of fiber and resin with a filtration of 95%
The tough guard fitration is of synthetic blend for 99% effiency

I currently have extra guard filters on both my vehicles. But I change my oil every 3,000 miles.

You look after your vehicle's, you do not over burden your oil filters with extra mileage. I like to hear comment's where vehicle owners look after there engines the right way. Thanks Mark.

The Tough Guard uses a synthetic blend media hence the better filtration and higher price.

Don't agree with that much higher price.

Both extra guard and tough guard use synthetic blend media the tough guard just contains more synthetic content. I agree with original poster it's not worth paying almost twice as much

@dylanclay2741 yeah definitely a rip off for a slight increase in protection.

Thanks for the video, good to see visually the difference in those two filters, looks like the tough guard is a big upcharge for the media.

Yes seems kinda excessive for a bit better filtration media. Thanks Jimmy 😁

I opened a tg. End 1/8 off center to allow oil past leaf spring. Puro one or boss now! I did have an Xtra guard come apart years ago. Black ⚫️ 0il at 3000 miles. 0nce we see black we never go back? Lol loving my amber oil at 2000 plus miles! Syn helps alot!

if Fram was spending 2 cents extra to put more media to make the pleats even and regular I might consider buying them, because uneven pleats tend to tear.
@crazybillsgarage
@crazybillsgarage 3 ай бұрын
So right Bud, my belief is if it's a more open area then more pressure will build up. I could be wrong but I like even pleats to have even pressure.

The only thing going for these Frams are that they are made here. If they were the last filters available on Earth, yes I would have no chance but to use them

Your point right on, if it's all we had then we would use them.

I put a remote filer on my 04 Duramax, use a large Doladlson designed for a Bypass, did a restriction check with gauges, both ports, less than 1 psi at cold starts, even at 3/4 RPM, ive had awesome oil samples. Almost 400K still a great engine, change at 5K use Valvoline Blue Restore, as its steady diet.

That's good to hear, at those higher miles you really don't get good results.

@@crazybillsgarage I've had the truck since new, learned early on, " Oil changes cost $, only one thing costs more, no oil changes" so in the used cars I've bought it was about getting the sludge from cheap oil and changes flushed out, then change oils, my HD Mechanic apprenticeship taught me to change oil, add a bypass, on this Duramax it all goes through a 14" long bypass mounted under the truck, it's been both a heavy puller, as well as a town car, seen it all.

@@crazybillsgarage look up Protect and Restore oil, and Valvoline Blue Restore, Gen 2. And see the history re the Cummins fiascos when Tier 1 for Diesels came, had lots of issues with stuck rings in the 15 liter ISX, it worked unless they seized rings scored the liners, Look up the TSB on ISX oil burning, I'm sold on the stuff, run it slowly now in gas and diesel, engines like being clean, my only "watch out for" is change the filters at 1K at first oil change to the Restore Gen 3 it loosens lots of crud, you don't want filters bypassing. I've seen filters I've cut open have crystals of carbon like white sugar we put in coffee, but black, that oil does its job.

Yeah keeping an oil filter in to long leads to engine failure which leads to anger then leads you to the dark side.😉

Fram is the “no thinking” choice for most. Its a recognisable brand that you can find anywhere. Not everyone is an oil nerd or cares. Would I use one? No but Im just happy people are changing their oil when needed

Exactly oil changes count for most of the wear in an engine, any filter will fail uf ran to long.😉

@@crazybillsgarage years ago i went to an audi training class. The teacher was from Germany and said Audi suggests filter replacement every second oil change or 30000km iirc. I said an oil filter is cheaper than an engine and he scaled me saying “no its what we engineered” meanwhile a few months later they had a TSB for 1.8T oil sludge issues and a larger oil filter…
