Perdition does not mean forgiveness, it means hell, damnation, the loss of the soul.

Maybe they confused it with purgatory, where the soul can undergo purification. According to Paulie Walnuts, you get so many years for mortal sins and so much for venial sins, add 'em up and you've got your stay in purgatory.

About the water dripping on the spaceship in Alien, I was so locked in to the movie that I just thought well idk the ins and outs of space mining, this is probably normal.

I think the number one rule of movies is "you can do stuff that makes no sense as long as it makes the movie better, and isn't so wrong it's distracting" (like how you never notice the T-Rex in Jurassic Park breaks an enclosure at ground level and then suddenly the car getting pushed into that enclosure is falling off a cliff)

I assumed it was just a shitbucket, and had fluid leaks.

Mendes pulls the same move with the same actor but in reverse. Road to Perdition: Craig looks into glass but only sees his own reflection and doesn't see Hank's son Skyfall: The sniper looks in Craig's direction but doesn't see him standing in a glass door.

Oh man. Forgot this was Conrad Hall’s last movie. What a talent.

As axelord says they misunderstood perdition and it muddied the conversation. Perdition is the eternal damnation of someone who's actions in life put him past the reach of salvation or redemption no matter the content of his character. I agree with Jason that concessions made to the brand Tom Hanks had become held the film back. I feel like he wouldn't be as hung up on the road movie angle had he realised the title was alluding to the "road to hell is paved with good intentions" aphorism. Hanks character did monstrous things for his family, lying to himself that he could keep them safe from it. He was not damned for the killings. He was damned for the life he lived bringing about his family's destruction. Either by the way it played out. Or the way it was mirrored in the beginning with the Neumann and Craig characters. The fate of his remaining son had he been raised with nepatism funded by filthy blood money. Sins of the father/generational trauma. I found Jude Law's fake hair the most distracting element. Knowing the shots were lit and composed by a nearly blind man explained that for me. Not to say he couldn't effectively light for that. But that I suspect no one on set likely realised it would be important to explain to him. I also prefer Unforgiven as a film. But for myself I think outside of the central theme of damnation I don't find much overlap in the other concepts both films explore. Didn't realise I had this much to say about a film I saw twice 15 years apart. Have to put it down to being raised in a cult. Filling my head full of shit with very narrow utility.😂

What a coincidence, yesterday I was swimming for a few hours where they filmed the final scene. They built that house for the movie and then immediately tore it down, now its a nice little beach

Lone Wolf and Cub - Good films, incredible manga. Fitful of Dollars was based off Yojimbo though.

The son would later go on to voice Sephiroth. Tom Hanks’ work was for naught.

Even at the time, a lot of people rightly complained about the cheesiness of American Beauty--like the stupid garbage bag floating around, or how the hardcore homophobic dude of course turned out to be closeted. And a lot of other stuff. Just drenched in cheese, and not even high-quality cheese, just that vacuum-sealed rubbery, garbage, supermarket cheese.
