This is a collection of moments from our recent trip to Australia.
Over a month I filmed a few seconds or minutes each day, from the mundane to typical Australian details.
I hope that, through this video, you get a glimpse of what Sydney and parts of Australia look like if you have never been. And if you have I hope that these images will remind you of it.
I didn’t want this to be another typical travel video so I tried when I could to really put the emphasis on composition instead of movement and focused on the quiet moments with a touch of minimalism. Since I was there for a few weeks and knew the spots very well I also filmed at golden hour as many times as possible.
All shot handheld (aside from the time-lapses)
6K BRAW, in 24 or 50 fps.

ISO 3200 since I was shooting at F4, with a little bit of noise reduction but not too much honestly.

@@OfTwoLands That's awesome, I just shot on the Sigma 18-35 at night in my video I just posted on Saturday there and was getting a lot of crushed details and so much noise at 1250 and that's an F/1.4!

Incredible work. There's something about the Blackmagic cinema camera that gets you hooked to the screen. Watched it on my OLED TV. I personally prefer Super 35 to full frame cameras. You're very talented. I own a Blackmagic 4K and a Sony FX30. We also shoot with RED and Arri and Blackmagic looks so close to Arri. Thank you for this.

Beautifully done brother. I recently took a mountain trip vacation with my wife and daughters and now I regret not bringing my P6K Pro and doing something similar. Did you feel as though you were stressing the whole time trying to get shots or did you feel like you were still able to be present and in the moment with the family?

Thanks man!! I always have a camera, regardless of the trip or company and I think since I had a little one I want to capture memories even more. On this trip filming was very secondary. I spent days without shooting much and most of the time I was just filming a few minutes here or there. I was never stressed getting the shot or not. Only once or twice I actually made the choice to go somewhere just to shoot. I also lived there for 10 years so I knew where to go and when so I didn't need to plan :)

This is so breathtaking and real at the same time... The sea shots have some Christopher Nolan's TENET feel to them, for some reason. Probably the boat grip shots, I dunno :) Great taste in framing a color too. Thank you!

Hey man, great cinematography as usual. It would be nice to see a video on how you decide on your shot list, and camera movement, is this all pre-planned and if it is, how do you decide on that. Very nice but I had no doubts about this. A couple of curiosities: what lenses did you use? Am I wrong or the aspect ratio is 2:1? I'm seriously considering shooting one of my next projects with that aspect ratio but I'd like to compare myself with those who usually use it

Thanks!! The ratio for this one is 2.39:1 :) And I used the Canon 24-105 and 16-35, both F4 and IS.

I'm planning to go with my BMPCC6K Pro abroad by plane. However, my Manfrotto tripod is too bulky and too heavy for the trip. And my Manfrotto monopod is too shaky for time-lapses. Thanks so much!! I transcode, and denoise and fix exposure if needed in Davinci but I edit in FCPX :) I denoised a few clips for this video, not by a huge amount though. I have had a few people asking so I think I will do a breakdown asap :)

Thank you!! I don't mind not having autofocus and I am used to it. It would great of course to have it but these cameras aren't really built for those applications in particular. I would prefer to have the image, color, features, codecs and price of the BMPCC6K Pro instead of autofocus. I do have an Eos R to use for interviews or when filming myself for that reason :)

No it isn’t. That’s the aesthetic they wanted. Plenty of films intentional under expose things to create a feeling. I can tell by the music choice they wanted that dark exposure and it works.

I can't really compare since I haven't used the Sony. These days are pro cameras are pretty good so I think it is more a matter of what you need from a camera.

There is something of a tragic feeling i feel. This gorgeous world you’ve captured has a musical score that is mournful yet beautiful and painful. Like a memory of a loved place and time already past.

I always tend to gravitate towards ambient/sad music and I thought that one matched the footage quite well. We did have a sense of bittersweet memory and nostalgia visiting a place we used to live in.
