As a guitarist I can attest Bob Dylan has a very signature style of strumming the guitar. It has eccentricities and 'signatures' like his voice has. This kid nailed it and most people overlook how good Bob is as a folk guitarist. The fact Tim could be up to speed in less than 5 years strumming snd singing at the same time is pretty incredible and I'll admit I'm a bit jealous.

I just saw it on Christmas Day. Grew up in my early and late teens with Dylan's music. The music is GREAT but it also turned out to be the best movie I've seen in 10 years. Have to go back to Amadeus to see similar quality of a great artist, poet, musician, songwriter. Chalamet should get an Oscar for best acting. After 6 years of study of Dylan (!), absolutely incredible rendition of him and he did ALL the singing and GUITAR live himself looking and sounding just like Bobby!! Astounding. The five or six supporting cast were also all fantastic.

Great review! I saw "A Complete Unknown" on Xmas alone in a theatre half full of people. I loved every minute. I cried, i laughed and was left wanting more! One thing that bugged me at the end ... Bob riding off on his motorcycle. And the words that had to be read on the theatre screen. I would have liked to have seen it end in Nov. 1965 when Bob & Sara wed.

I don't even know who the actor is but he definitely had Dylan down. It doesn't surprise me that it took him several years of studying him either. That's what makes a good actor. He knows he's performing for a prior generation. My husband and I are baby boomers and we're both into music. That's how we met. 24 years later we continue seeing movies like this and appreciate it. All of it. From the cars to the people dealing with screwed up politics. In fact, it felt like it came full circle. The sticker on Dylan's guitar, Fascism...oh man, we're right there again in our 60's yet many cannot see it. Yeah, music speaks loudly. Always has. 🎸 My husband is always playing his guitar and at times I say, "Why don't you just marry it"?! 😊😊

I absolutely loved this movie! Chalumet has skyrocketed in my estimation as a now brilliant actor with an amazing career ahead of him! This biopic took me right back to what was, for me and our entire generation, and dare I say the world, a time of hope, of resilience, of sticking it to the man, of having a voice, and now here we are in 2025 about to succumb, once again, to the powers of an evil and seemingly irrepressible evil in our country! Will there be anew Dylan to take us back to a place of power and hope? Thank you to everyone who worked on this more than Oscar worthy chef d'oeuvre!!

Timothée Chalamet hit it out of the park for sure - but I was also so impressed with Ed Norton's banjo playing and he really seemed like "peacemaker" Pete Seeger. Kudos to Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez - now that's a really difficult voice to nail. This movie was a wonderful gift to all of us who grew up with Dylan and loved his music; the lyrics are as applicable today as they were in the 60s.

This is my favorite Dylan film by far ! It captures the same Dylan vibe I only ever saw once, in a biopic on a woman not even mentioned in this movie, Edie Sedgwick in "Factory Girl." Great Film ! Everyone looks & sounds incredibly like the real people whether its Johnny Cash or Bob Neuwirth. All the actors/actresses did their own singing & playing too. Timothee Chalamet sounds exactly like Bob in the rollout of the credits when he plays/sings "Mr. Tambourine Man." I thought it was Bob at first. He did an incredible job & deserves an Oscar. Highly Recommend It !

I saw the film two days ago and loved it! Timothée Chalamet embodied Bob Dylan. Bob is from my hometown and I lived down the block from him even though I am quite a few years younger than him. When I was eight or 10 he would come home and would practice in his parents living room and my girlfriend and I would sit in the bushes and watch them. We really didn’t know who he was at that time and he was already getting famous in New York. We just thought it was cool to have a band in somebody’s living room. I have a deep connection of Bob Dylan and his music as an old iron ranger. I’ve always loved everything that Timothée Chalamet has done. 💝

Remember when Ed Bradly interviewed Dylan and he asked him why he was still touring in his 70s, and Dylan said, "well, I'm holding up my end of the bargain" Bradly asked whow he bargained with and Dylan said, "the big man, the ruler of this realm and the others" Dylan was completely deadpan and he even seemed at bit reluctant to admit that he made some kind of deal with....? I enjoyed the movie so much, especially the lead lead singers, that I have been checking out all the covers, all the original performances or short documentaries, interviews, etc. Somebody left a nice compliment today that Mangold is good at this male biopic thing, after all, he helped Phoenix get nominated for the best actor Oscar. I went to see Walk the Line for the same reason I saw Complete Unknown, for the music and the performers sounding like the originals did 50 years ago. Well, smell the roses everybody, Mangold also helped Reese Witherspoon into the best Actress Oscar that year for playing and singing as June Carter! From the moment Reese started singing in that flic I said to myself ''she just stole the fucking movie! I hope somebody who matters is seeing that too.'' It would be wonderfull if Timothee and Monica both got lead Oscars! How did they get Monica, who sings only in the shower, have the power and vibrato and natural beauty that Joan has had since 1960. She is so self assured that she can give Bobby an up yours finger on stage. And she can tell Bobby that he is an asshole when he is being one, and he agrees! Nice touches, and if we know that they found all that authentic 1960s music and film machines they are not going to be having Monica's Joan Baez say something she did not say.

I'm sure the film will be great, but it's worth mentioning that a perfect Bob Dylan film already exists: I'm Not There, in which Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Richard Gere and above all, Cate Blanchett, all play him.
@Rors11320 күн бұрын
One of my very favorite films! Though, A Complete Unknown was also truly excellent, and Chalamet, like Blanchett, absolutely nailed the portrayal of Dylan. I do agree though, I’m Not There was not only a brilliant film about Dylan, it even really -felt- like Dylan’s songwriting. Not terribly accessible to a non Dylan fan - but for a Dylan fan, I can scarcely imagine a better Dylan movie than I’m Not There.

Walking Phoenix as Cash was phenomenal. Let's see how this measures up. Dylan being the most important one of my influences I fear that I would be disappointed by a depiction of a man who's constantly depicting others himself.
