Framing an octagon roof on the ground

This is just an update to the church renovation, which features a giant 28’ wide octagon roof. The roof system sits on top of 18’ tall walls, which are sitting on a steel structure which is 21’ above the floor system. So it’s quite tall. It’s also difficult to reach it as there are a couple new additions which make it hard to get equipment close to the octagon. We decided to asemble as much as possible on the ground. To avoid special ordering 18’ studs for the octagon walls, and because we didn’t think we could lift both walls and roof assembled, we chose to divide the walls into two parts, with a 16’ tall octagon, and a 2’ knee wall on top. As shown in this video we are building thr roof attached to the knee walls and intend yo hoist that system together. Conveniently, the octagon walls have several windows and so we chose 2’ knee walls because it allowed us to keep the window headers and framing completely assembled and then just set the additional 2’ on top. Also the 2’ gives us enough clearance above the ground to build out the overhang, soffit, fascia etc.

Cool , I just am always eerie will a knee wall , can be a bad hinge point unless your strapping it allI like your thought of just doing it with the double top plate your def a real framer tho Rock on hope it flys good make sure you put the hangers on that will hold it to the knee wall
