I bought this nail gun as we were planning to renew all the fencing in our back garden. As this involved 19 double slatted fence panels, 10 of which needed to be cut down in size, we knew there would be a need for a great kzbin.infoUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt deal of re-stapling the wooden slats to the wooden framework. Each alteration required the re-stapling of 62 wooden slats with double staples. Prior to starting the work we ordered sufficient additional staples as per the instructions with the gun.The gun performed fantastically throughout the entire project with no jams of misfires. The adjustable power was excellent allowing the staples to be fired into the 8mm slats to the correct depth. For the price paid this was a bargain and it proved itself to be so reliable and versatile making an arduous task much quicker and professional. I cannot recommend this product highly enough and it will be used on many other projects in the future.

I’ve had my hikoki for over a year now. We work with a lot of hardwood doing renovations. It’s been great although it doesn’t skew nail that well. My bosses paslode is a headache. It’s fussy, high maintenance and lacks power. Blows my mind the paslode guns are so expensive. I’d hand nail everything over buying one 😂

Hi guys. Great review, very thorough. I'm a carpenter and I've had the hikoki nailer for a couple of years. I really love it! I know fellas that have the DeWalt and paslode and they just don't compare in terms of power or speed or easy maintenance. Its so reliable, it works perfectly every single time and has never even jammed on me, even if it's left unused for months on end. You are right about the stupid rafter hook on it though, but hikoki do have a smaller hook, which is easily swapped out for that one and it's much nicer. I think the gun shuts off after like half an hour of non use but that doesn't really bother me.

@@zaneh6224 The only problem I ever have with my Paslode is sometimes it starts dry firing because the follower in the magazine sticks. I believe its caused by the glue on the nails, so cleaning helps. Other than that it is extremely reliable.

I like my paslode, I use it for framing, sheathing, and siding when nails are appropriate. I use it year around, dirt, snow, rain, it works. Never had in issue with my new one for three years, but they do get grumpy when they get abused for a long time.

I have ran a Paslode framing and finish nailer for five years now. I just got the Milwaukee 30 degree framing nailer and 18 gauge finish nailer and they are my go to now. The bump fire setting is all I use and wished the Paslode guns had it in the past. The Hitachi as it's called here in the U.S was a consideration but I already had Milwaukee tools.

Great review! Thanks for also mention the noise level on your tools, thats the first thing I notice when buying tools. Gotta keep the noise down with tinnitus and sensitive to noises. Everyone should use earprotection, ask anyone with tinnitus.

The power of these guns are better than in the early 90s. Paslode never had that much power. Air hoses used to drive me nuts. I just bought dewalt framing gun and finishing! If I have to I can do a fit out with no noisy compressor! Love these vids!!!🙂🙂🙂👍

Great video guys. As much as the non gas nailers are reliable and powerful, I've never gone over to them purely based on their additional weight and bulkyness compared to the Paslode. I can fire a couple if thousand nails a day when roofing on a big job, and the extra weight is punishing on your wrist/arms. Its not usual to machine fun nails in like in your tests, so I don't find the Paslode wanting in that regard. You've just got to keep the thing clean. Cheers from the UK.

Great review. I have owned a Paslode for many years and without a doubt its the most unreliable and frustrating tool i have ever owned. Many times i've wanted to smash the bloody thing. Doesn't matter how many times you clean it either. That's a poor excuse as i see it ,for a tool that lacks power and is so unreliable. My next will be Hikoki.

Hikoki is great in many areas. But my god the belt hook is awful & the weight can sometimes make life hard. But out the 4 it is my choice (haven’t used milwaukee)

@@mymate18 it's been excellent mate no missed fire or single jam I've done countless partition walls with it, using 90mm ring shank nails I find it strange that I have an extended magazine on it and it feels lighter and balanced, also using 2 amp battery. it's alot heavier than Paslode, but so powerful.. I have 2 Chippys working with me and they love using the gun! especially outside on cold days, I also have the new 18 gauge model absolutely beautiful as well. If you do get one I do recommend you to get extended magazine as well, well worth it!

A friend I work with went through two default framers in 8 months and went back to paslode but is now using that hikoki which is a nice tool but by hell is that belt hook annoying

Some of these guns can be finished?? That would be a godsend for me. I'm a woman that wants to finish my house correctly like a work of art. I even bought a nice router and table and bought $50 more a special bits. Feeling the Box because I have to learn quite a bit. I really appreciate all of your expert opinions I've bought a lot of Sears Craftsman products before. They do stand by their products not sure I'm sure can power tools. I would like to build things other than finish my home to make money at home. Like dog houses with special needs. I would like to take Consignments from people by looking at their home and their lifestyle with their dogs or whatever kind of pet they have.

I've ran Paslode, and now run the Hikoki. There is no weight issue as far as I am concerned. The only issue it's got is the positioning of the controls and the ridiculously shite belt/rafter hook. Great round up as always fellas. 🤙

As a plumber I agree with your comment at the end of the video. I had a paslode and as used it in infrequently the gas had either leaked or was off and the thing never worked properly. Bought a DeWalt nailer and never looked back, several thousand nails through it and never missed a beat. And you don't go freaking deaf with it either, damn paslode are LOUD! I hate sites where the builder is using a paslode.

I have the Hikoki, very well built great power, but its very difficult skewing nails in nogs and studs, sometimes you cant get the angle steep enough, plus the weight and bulkiness of it is a huge pain. Every now and then i get an episode of constant misfires which aggravates the shit out of me as it can be all day, ive thrown it off the ladder several times now. The Paslode is the perfect weight, size and shape, if they release one exactly like it with battery only, it would be PERFECT

Hey guys , you might of missed pointing out that the Paslode shoots 9,000 shots per charge, and is the only framer on the market that shoots 50 and 65mm dekfast and cladfast nails and from a maintenance view, I maintain my gun over a beer (very simple) I have owned Pazzzys for 25 years and wouldn’t change as all these tools are not tried and tested over a long period

but battery charge yes, but not even close to that for the fuel cell. you have two power sources to manage, which is a slight negative to the Paslode. That's an interesting point about the dekfast and cladfast products (both Paslode proprietary). Are there similar products that will work in the battery nailers?

The nails mentioned only suit Paslode as they are an impulse product and come supplied with gas fuel cells , I haven’t seen any other brands with this product, but the way my current Paslode framer has fired 1.3 million shots, cheers

I'm doing my apprenticeship for a framing company. We build the frames lying down and stand them when finished framing. We use Milwaukee, paslodes and air compressor. Id say the milwauke is the fastest building frames due to its rapid fire. The air compressor can be just as fast if not faster but you have to pull the trigger each nail. Just have to be trigger happy. But for standing and nailing frames together prefer paslode as its so light and great at skewing nails. Prefer paslode for everything other than building frames due to its size and weight.

Kind of glad I went with the Wilfuckyee nailer now. We don't get them as kits in NZ (or at least not that I know of) but I just got the skin on sale for $750 retail. I already have a pair of 5 amp batteries so that's no issue for me. I was looking at older second hand Paslodes but again thank christ I didn't get one. I'm not a chippie by any stretch of the imagination, but I do the odd construction project here and there so this looks like it'll do the job just fine.

I'm a technician at a tool retailer in Melbourne Best guns in my opinion is 1. Paslode- light easy to work on, easy diagnosis and overall the best framing gun. 2. Dewalt- all mechanical and a simple design thats reliable. ( shoots a little slow ) 3. Hikoki- heavy, powerful, but I see these the most for failure and warranty returns, full of electronics and can be hard to diagnose. Milwaukee is a new unit, have not delt with them as much, but I do think it will overtake hikoki in the coming months.

It's without doubt the battery mailers are the future they just need to carry on the engineering and research to bring the weight of all the components down. Milwalkee also has an optional extended capacity magazine, it holds 93 nails, Hikoki has 6 year warranty Milwaukee 3 years, Hikoki comes with better higher capacity batteries, they also have redemptions on at the moment to get free batteries etc, Milwaukee don't, I am considering to Hikoki over the Milwaukee as guys I know have them and love em.

I have only ever used Paslode and Hikoki when doing work experience with carpenters. I'm attracted to the battery guns, particularly the Milwaukee one simply because it's narrower around the body than the Hikoki or indeed the Paslode, and I've been in situations before where the clunkiness and general size of the gun presents clearance problems. That being said, I've also had to skew nails at times and found it harder to do with battery guns than with Paslode ones due to how they're designed. The Milwaukee is a lot cheaper without even considering the cost of fuel cells, and Milwaukee is a platform I'd use for more specific tools such as impact wrenches or SDS drills. It's a pity Makita, one of the more commonly used tool brands in carpentry, don't make very many good nailers if any at all. Not shitting on Makita, but their speciality is just not in nail guns. It's more in saws, planers, impact drivers, drills, etc...

I've had the hikoki framer for a couple of years now. Great power & shoots quickly, but anybody who owns one of these framers and uses them regularly will tell you 2 things: 1. The hook is annoying as anything. 2. It misfires. The hikokis have a tendency to misfire if you use any nails aside from paslode nails in them. Furthermore they have feeding issues which prevent smooth operation. I'm considering buying a paslode next.

I've had the paslode since it came to Ireland in 1998 always a good fun , but I've always had issues over price of nails and constant servicing and I've been thinking of going battery . I sell three of these guns at my job and get reviews back from direct and continuous use in the field. my comment on the finish nailer was more from a service perspective, where the design does cause the gun to break more often. the hikoki is the first to really unseat the paslode in regular use though even with the problems in the cold

I love my Hitachi/Hikoki I also have the brader as well... They haven't skipped a beat and just works when I want it to work. (I also have the AEG Brad nailers and prefer the Hitachi one over them) The weight you point out doesn't bother me and haven't really noticed it... My rafter hook isn't that big like the one you got... ? My "father in Law" been a builder for 50 odd years... and a Paslode user for years is seriously thinking of switching to Hitachi/Hikok after using mine for a while...

well unfortunately the 3Ah batts in the kit or basically the same weight as a 4/5/6Ah battery. to reduce the weight you need a slim battery.

Never put your hand in front of the nailgun when building a knee wall, as in the vid...the safety can depress at the edge of the timber with the nail shooting along the edge. This is how I shot a 12d through my hand.

i have a couple of of delwalt guns the gen 3 is a great gun but the rafter hook kills me on it i don’t know why they changed it from the gen 1,2 it has fallen off my nail bag when i’ve been on the roof twice now surprisly the gun still works no problem. but my favourite gun i own would be my gen 1 that has a gen 3 motor in it! gave up on paslodes a few years ago and haven’t looked back i save $150 on nails a week and less missfiring

Love the Hikoki, have one and don't mind the weight. My only wish is that the tip was a little more aggressive, like the paslodes. The same can be said for the Milwaukee, would benefit from an agressive tip. I wonder if it can be purchased as an aftermarket/upgrade part?

Paslode stands up after a drop and best ergonomically, best for up on a roof or nailing above your head. Dewalt second place for ergonomics and nailing above head height. I’d only buy hikoki or Milwaukee if I was doing formwork or small renovations. Dewalt beats paslode for my use as I do a lot of framing and gas adds up. Pneumatic has yet to be replace for stick build

Parslow are the best nail guns handsdown they wear well they durable i’m not too sure where you had the depth gauge set on the Parslow but I’ve never had that problem before as much as you guys did cheers

we had the depth gauge on full power for both paslode guns we tested. i think our testing was harder on the guns because there would usually be more breaks between firing into HW on most sites. [Dwain]

My boss had a Paslode and I’ve got the Hitachi, in Nz timber the paslode leaves 10mm proud, Hitachi drives it flush. He’s got the hitchi now, no more messing with gas, the smell and the noise.

The Hikoki will fuck up after 6 months in the UK 4 guys bought the gun within 6 months of each other all different models all have the same problem of misfiring. The spring which pushes the nails up after a shot is just not strong enough this means you have to push the nails up after every shot. Consistent problem throughout different models. I wouldn't recommend the Hikoki to anyone

I’ve got the dewalt, Milwaukee and the paslode. The dewalt can be fast if you use bump instead of sequential. The milwaukee is too darn heavy for awkward spots. And the paslode is very nice if you service it.... do it yourself and save a fortune..

I was strongly considering the Hitachi. I use all Dewalt power tools except for my Hitachi finish nailers(I have a senco in there as well). So, Batteries wouldn't be an issue. Milwaukee is the same style as Hitachi as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind maintaining my tools/guns, so Paslode's maintenance wouldn't be a problem. Of the three styles, which do you prefer? Which would you recommend? I remodel homes and hardly frame for more than a couple of walls. I'll go through a few strips of nails per project, max. Thanks. Your opinion is important! I am buying a cordless nailer, soonish.

Zack Fishle if you don’t mind paying $70 for a box of nails and don’t mind cleaning it then paslode all the way. But if you want a gun that convenient then a battery gun is top . I find myself reaching for the dewalt due to it being nice and light with a compact battery and no gas/paslode battery to wrangle. Best of both worlds. Hope this helps

I like the Milwaukee, but i don't like the weight. The Dewalt i like but i hate the fan that makes to much noise before each shot. I have had and used several Paslodes, they are very temperamental guns, always something not right with them, but if they are on they are great. Good comparison though, very informative, i'm wanting to buy the Milwaukee but the weight has got me second guessing buying one.

I got the dewalt in the UK as a bare unit with 10% off from screwfix (bought a drill with a battery and got 10% off any bare tool) for £225, its at least as good as my pneumatic with a full compressor tank and better when the tank is low, as for weight, the dewalt wins hands down when you consider trailing a hose behind the gun, doesnt have the same nail capacity but no issue there, yeah the ramp up is a pain, I cant see why they couldn't have a mode where the flywheel was always run up but still needed the tip seated and a trigger pull to fire, one other thing, bumpfire is as agood as uselss with 90mm nails, always leaves the head sticking out, 50mm and 75mm, no problem!

I have two Paslode framers, one gets used daily one gets used every 2-6 months, I take it off the shelf, and it fires straight away, no problem with the gas, sometimes the battery may need a charge but that's normal for any battery powered tool

Over here in Canada our prices are way closer. The Dewalt kit is $499 The Metabo kit is $579 Milwaukee kit is $678 Paslode kit is $629 I have used the Dewalts for years now. The batteries dont like the cold and are ridiculously priced. I have also used Paslode and would never buy one unless they go gasless with better batteries. I have never used the Metabo but I do like there air tools alot. The Milwaukee for me is the best gun and the batteries are better priced and can handle the cold way better.

just checked milwuakee with battery (5.0) and charger is 649$ at homedepot in canada and without a doubt could be found a tad cheaper but homedepot is a good baseline in north america i think the two 3.0s would suffice for running the nailer if you didnt have many or any other m18 tools by the time you shoot through one 3.0 the other would be charged only what a 40min charge time on basic charger for a 3.0

Into KD F17 hardwood? We found that it might do a few, but if you asked it to sink more than that in the space of a few minutes, it couldn't. We also got a second unit to make sure it behaved the same (which it did). [Dwain]

I have never used nail gun before so I really want to purchase a reasonable good one for framing and finish nailing. I'm trying to cedar log home myself with Maybe a laborer at times. It is a little confusing absolutely don't want a compressor to mess with. I'm not building houses for a living. I wish they had a tool kit that includes nailers. Yes I'm a woman but I can learn. I've designed and contracted to homes myself. I had absolutely no experience but I've always watched people at work and I study on whatever I'm going to do. I studied almost two months how to lay tile for my bigger home cuz I couldn't afford the expensive tile that I wanted and pay someone to install it. I happened to buy half-inch handmade Kyle which was beautiful but as you know the edges are not Square. 2000 lb for me to take on but I knew what I wanted and I got it done and swore I would never lay tile again. Well it's been 20 years so I will be changing my mind. I appreciate your opinions on the tools that you talked about. I'm still a little confused the prices are so different and outrageous. Do you have a preference to a finish nailer?? I'm still confused on Brad nailers pin nailers. I know what they are but I don't know why they can't make one gun for all three jobs.

Hi Starlsd! Thanks for your comment! We all have to start somewhere, I did the same as you, constantly learning on youtube when I first tried new jobs. A few quick answers: - Nails guns can only use one gauge of nail unfortunately. - Some 18 Gauge (also known as 'C1 Nails') nailers can also fire staples, but none of the battery ones as far as I know. You probably won't need staples for a house construction anyway. - I think your best bet is to buy a two-pack from one of these brands, containing a framing nailer and a fixer/brad nail gun. The fixing gun could be 15Ga (also known as DA) or 16Ga (also 'C' nails). It doesn't really matter much, they are very similar. It also doesn't matter much whether you get an angled fixer or a straight fixer. - You can definitely buy a two pack (with batteries) in Paslode, Dewalt or Hikoki, possibly Milwaukee. Nailers can be quite heavy. If you'd like to keep the weight right down, Paslode is the lightest, Dewalt a bit heavier, the other two brands a lot heavier. Dwain

The DeWalt pricing has to be aimed at bringing new people into the battery system. I'm M18 - with minor sidelines in Hilti and Ryobi - and this pricing would work to get me into the DeWalt system. I wouldn't stop using my Milwaukee gear, but I would have more options and - most important to DeWalt - I would become a repeat customer. For comparison, the DeWalt kit price is $230 cheaper than the Milwaukee bare tool! Though the spring replacement might bug me eventually.

I've been running a Paslode for the last 12 years. Getting a bit sick of the maintenance costs. I've been trying a demo of the Milwaukee framer, I'm very impressed with the speed and power. I'm going to be buying a Milwaukee. I have tried the hikoki and it feels unbalanced for me. I've recently got the Milwaukee 16G nailer after I got fed up with Paslode.

Some reviewers have already had leakdowns on the hikoki and they will lose their gas over time, like anything that has seals that wear/escape gas. Servicing the Paslode is easier than you think doing it yourself either just removing the filter and washing it under water and you are done. If you want to go for a deep clean, just spray the inside with de-greaser, clean and lubricate with oil. I will usually do this once a year. The price for paslode nails is ridiculously cheap for a 3,000 pack for $80 from Bunnings in comparison to what you would by in NZ from Bunnings for the same type and at your cheapest price that costs nearly $300.00!!!! WTH?

I have all of these. The Paslode is by far the best over all and outlasts the other guns by 10 years. The other 3 all broke within 2 years of professional use. I get 8-12 years out of a paslode.

Paslode got problems with gas, Dewalt uses a flywheel so different to others Milwaukee only new got no history to back up longevity Hikoki go no gas no flywheel but does have the history to back up longevity and performance so it gets my 🗳

I just used mine extensively for a year. It starts to misfire and nails don’t go in all the way. That’s your cue to send it to the repairman. They fill up the nitrogen canister and it comes back like new !

Hard to fault the Hikoki. I’m on dewalt myself but the hikoki framer is a beast. I wouldn’t trust anything with Milwaukee written on it, their whole range is poorly engineered and unreliable.
