People these days seem to think "you have to respect my opinion!" No, I have to respect your RIGHT to have an opinion. And I have the right to judge your opinion (and you) as uninformed, or unsupported by evidence, if I find that to be the case. If you view the available evidence, and come up with an opinion that does not logically follow from the evidence, I'm going to judge you. This is a good thing, it's how we determine which sources of information we can trust and which we can't. Building up a collection of sources of information that you can trust is the source of all learning.

Listening takes the spotlight off the self. Listening and learning takes energy and thought. It's so much easier to just be uncritical and foist yourself and your ignorance on everyone else. So many have lost the joy in learning. They have traded in the hard work for that "ah-ha!" moment for what is easy. Cold comfort for change. And because many look down on the intentionally ignorant, they would rather muddy the waters and force the world to bend to their ego and make themselves feel good about their ignorance, than to take the time to work on themselves, humble their pride and admit "there's a lot I don't know." I've never thought there was anything wrong with being ignorant. I know I'm lacking in so many areas. But I don't have the hubris and false sense of security (lack of tact) to jump in and tell someone who's spent their life studying and focusing on something that my feelings are just as valid as their knowledge and lived experience. The sense of entitlement across ALL age groups is just...baffling. The is nothing wrong with being ignorant. We all are. There is something wrong with lashing out at someone who knows more on a subject than you do, because you're ignorant. :/ I gotta wonder whatever happened to curiosity? So many people want to talk. But few want to listen. Or at least, listen to anything that challenges their ignorance and forces them to exercise their mind and critical thinking skills. Okay, I'mma go back to being a silent viewer. XD

An example of a gas as a lubricant would be an air hockey game. When turned off the puck doesnt slide very well, too much friction. Turn it on and air comes out of the little pin holes in the board, creating a film of air between the puck and the board. Now a light tap sends the puck scooting across the board.

That is very easy to illustrate example. Also the air cushion they use to float the massive counterweights in skyscrapers.

@@FranLab You mean the tuned mass dampers in skyscrapers ? I didn't know about that one. Hovercraft are another example, they suspend the weight of the hovercraft with the help of a pressurised gas. Likewase the rotor in a gas bearing gyroscope is suspended by a pressurised gas. It's better because gas has lower viscosity than oil so less friction, even more so in space !

Hi Fran. This conversation hits home with me. I started doing high end industrial automation right out of high school. My "boomer" parents had (and still don't have) no idea about what I do or the level of skill, education, intelligence, ect... that is required to do my job. I tried explaining it to them, over the years, and it eventually got to the point that they don't even believe that my job is "real' because when I do try and explain what I do, it's so far over their heads that they are firmly convinced that my career "doesn't exist" even though I have been doing it for 30+ years in two Countries !!! It's sad that people can be so ignorant in this world. To this day, you ask my parents what I do for a living and they will say "oh he changes light bulbs at the car plants." Can you imagine being a parent and taking no interest in what your children do for a living and how passionate they are about doing the best they can, all the time and under all conditions. Sad really :(

Yet in another context, they attack the same authority because they have to tear down everything. My doubt is, do these people even exist, or are they trained AI bots? And you get a designation if you have less than 5 videos and then less than ten and less than 20 and so on. The more videos you upload the more clout you have. The reason why I think it should be required is, if a person leaves a comment saying “you should do ___”, then they need to have experience with other people commenting on their videos. Show us. Show everyone what you mean by exposing if you yourself can handle scrutiny. Otherwise everyone is a keyboard commando.
